Hi,
I realize what you're asking for now. No, I do not have info on Henry Brakefield. I barely have info on Isaac McGriff Brakefield, except that he's the father and they lived in Chester. Do you have info that goes back further?
You can email me at spanishmoss1829@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Kim

Would you please clarify who Isaiah is? Henry Alexander Brakefield, is in my husband's line and he was the son of Isaac McGriff Brakefield. I've looked very briefly through my notes and did not see an "Isaiah" in Isaac's or Henry's children. If you could use the full name of these people (if known,) it would help me, as some of the names are repeatedly used for succeeding generations. Thanks!

Thank you for replying Shannon. I do not have any other information prior to 1807 and it was only by chance I found your message board. Nicholas and Harriet married, I believe, at St. Michaels QueenHithe 1827. That being the case, she must have resided in London. My understanding of the English marriage laws was that one had to be a resident of the area. The Bishop family were at Thornden House Rolvenden, Nicholas was the eldest son and his father died in 1821. He was the heir of the "family farm" and would have been a resident of Rolvenden. Even though Harriet may have resided in London, my thinking is that she was a Kent girl because every other wife for generations were Kent girls,
Cheers
Katherine

Hi Katherine,

Thank you for your reply. I do have a Harriet Brakefield in my family tree. The Harriet that I have on my tree was born in 1835 to Sohia Kennard (1805-1836) and Isaac Brakefield (1803-1875).

Unfortunately, I don't think that we are talking about the same individual but I do have a rather large Brakefield family tree. Your Harriet could possibly be someone's child that I've yet to discover in my research.

Did your Harriet have any siblings? Do you know the name of her parents?

Regards,

Shannon

Hello,
I noticed your Brakefields were from Kent and wondered if you had a Harriet Brakefield in your history. She married Nicholas Bishop in about 1827, was born C1807 and died 8 Nov 1887. They had 3 children, and lived at Rolvenden. I am interested in her ancestory as they are my direct ancestors.
Cheers
Katherine
Hi Jane,

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you. I'm not sure I'm related to Nancy. But John and Mary Ann Martin had at least four children; Mary Ann, John Jr., Rosa Belle, and Charles Andrew. Does that help any.

John was 41 when he married Mary Ann so it's very possible that he had a previous family.

I'd be more then happy to share my information with you.

My G-Great Grandfather was John Samuel Brakefield. All I have on him is the following: Born in Kent Co., England about 1826. Enlisted in the US military on 24 Oct 1861 in St. Cloud, Minn. On 03 Oct 1867 he married Mary Ann Martin in Avon, Stearns Co., Minn. He was a farmer. John died on 16 Jan 1882 in Avon. I have been unable to find in information about his emigrating to the US. I have gathered information about his children through some family members, the US Census', and death records.

Any information about his parents/siblings, or his life before the Civil War would be appreciated

Hi, sorry it took so long to see your posting. My father was Lennie Sr.'s brother. Lost Creek Church has been rejuvenated by a wonderful new church group. I am so pleased that although they built a new huge church building, they have repaired the old church, too. The cemetery attached to it are where Noah and Nettie White Breakfield, Lennie Sr.'s parents are buried and many more going back several generations on his mother, Nettie's family side ( She of White, Wilson, Brickey lines). My father and several other brothers and one of his sisters are buried there, too. I do have some copies of pics of Lennie and would be happy to send them to you if you choose. Let me know by email if you wish to. ngrimes@fidnet.com Best wishes on your genealogical journey. I have researched several lines and continue to work on others as I am now retired from teaching and have more time.

Kim:

You had sent me an inquiry regarding my family tree on ancestry. I tried responding via email, but I'm, not sure it was actually sent. I thought I'd post this to make sure you got my reply.

All that I have is a Robert Hubbard Bohler that was married to Lisa Belle Head, who had a daughter named Gerome Bohler Kitchen (I'm not sure why the different last name unless she had married someone named Kitchen before she married J. Fritz Salley). My records show that Gerome was J. Fritz' second wife. His first wife, Alvena Fogle died in 1914. Alvena is my daughter-in-law's great grandmother.

I believe that all the information I have on J. Fritz, etc. I obtained from "A History of the Salley Family 1690 - 1965" by Olin J. Salley, which, I think, I found in the Aiken county library. I also remember seeing a copy of this book in the Mormon library in Salt Lake City.

I hope this is helpful,

Elmer

i have verified the information yes. i know that Isaac and maria catherine were in the united states by 1748 when their first child , Elizabeth Brakefield. She was born on july 29th,1748. i have gone through old baptismal records, marriage records, census records, and cemeteries. The first place that i have them living in the united states is in New Hanover township,Montgomery county,PA. I have talked to local historians in that area and what was new hanover township is now known as Pottsville. I hope that helps, i know it helped me! you can always reach me at babybluet2003@aol.com , and i will try to help out any way i can.

Did you contact "Ellum1" about this? I think that was the contact asking about Lilly Bell Broom Brakefield.
My grandfather was William Lacy Brakefield Sr., father was William Lacy Brakefield, Jr.

There are several Brakefields buried at the New Prospect church. A lot of the plots are toward the front of the cemetery near the church although I am sure there are other areas with Brakefields also. We live in California now so it has been years since I have been to New Prospect.

There are probably older members of the church who could tell you the exact locations you are looking for in the cemetery. They have "decoration" there every Mother's Day. That's when I always heard stories about the family history.

Good luck!

Dina Brakefield Sparks

Mica, My husband descends from the Brakefields in Chester Co. If you get to Chester, be sure to visit Armenia Church and its churchyard cemetery. Many of the Brakefields are buried there. Also check the local County History book, it has many of the old families with their stories, genealogies and pictures in it. Of course, you should still prove the info, but it gives you a lead and a direction to head in.
If you get stuck on the Henry Alexander Brakefield line, let me know. I have the standard info on him, but not too much more.
I do know his father was Isaac Brakefield, that's why I submitted the query, because the people I have been in contact with, seem to stop at him too. Thanks for giving me the (possible) Swedish lead. Happy hunting.
Kim
