Yes, Charles Bramley is listed under Ohio Deaths at FamilySearch.org. He died in Cleveland 17 Feb 1909, and his parents are John Bramley and Sarah Clark according to his death record. He is Selina's brother, and they also had brothers Lawrence and Wright Bramley. There is more on this family on Ancestry.com.
Gary Osborn

Well, a small world it is. My father's side of the family is not well known until now. In response to a post by John Bramley. My grandfather, Edward Jones Kirby, was married to Lenora May Bramley the sister of Winlaw B. Bramley Sr., now I know where my middle name came from, and the daughter of Samuel Winlaw Bramley and Ida May Bramley. She was born in St. Catherines, Ontario on 11-13-1892. I would love to hear from anyone. I am also looking for a Patrcia Bramley who may or may not be my grandmothers sister. Looking forward to hearing from someone. e-mail: kirb49@att.net

His ancestors
2.
Hi Phil

My name is Louise Sommer and my maiden name is Bramley.

My grandfather was Mark Bramley who is your Dads Brother.
My father is Daniel Clark Bramley, the 3rd oldest of 6 children.

I read your post on Ancestry.com.au and I was astonished to find out that your dad had created such a massive family tree. I called Dad and he said he remembered Phillip (your dad) doing something like that.

I am so happy to get in contact with you (Im hoping you still check this post.)

Would you be able to tell me the website your brother created the family tree on. I have been creating a family tree on ancestry.com.au and I believe your dad has a lot of information Im missing.

Thank you so much in advance,
Louise
Hi Trevor,

Actually, I do have quite a lot more information on the children for you. Incidentally, I did find your relative John - I think I was thrown by his birth being in Mansfield Woodhouse rather than Rowthorne. So........information on the children.

You will have noticed that the first Hannah died in infancy and the second was born the following year. Naming the next child of the same sex the same name is something I've found in other parts of my research.

I believe that Ruth and Sarah were twins as I picked up both birth years as 1803 and their christening was on the same day (30th January 1803 at Ault Hucknall Church). Sarah died in infancy, but Ruth went on to marry John Cutts on 7 August 1822 and had three children (Sarah born 1822, Jemima (born 1840 in Ault Hucknall) and Charles (born 1847 in Tibshelf.

William (born 1796) married Ann (born 1795 -sorry, don't know her last name or the date of the marriage). They had a son, George (born 1823).

Elizabeth (born 1796 in Rowthorne)is an interesting one. She never married and I have found her listed as a "cowkeeper" in Rowthorne. She looked after her father before he died and when she died on 5th October 1868 she left a will (unusual for a woman at that time). I have a copy of the will (it is obtainable through the Derbyshire Records Office) and she mentions property at Palterton, plus her dwelling-house and haystack - obviously quite a businesswoman!

Rebecca is another very interesting one. Rebecca (born 1801 in Rowthorne)married Joseph Riggott and had seven children - Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Jane, James, Arthur and Henry. Joseph was the innkeeper at The Hardwick Inn (near Hardwick Hall). I'm not sure whether you are local to this area, but if you are The Hardwick Inn is worth a visit as on the wall there - opposite to the bar - they have a framed piece on the wall about the Riggotts and their time at the Inn. At that time the landlord of the inn would have helped look after the hall too, so somewhere in the records for Hardwick Hall there are probably references to Rebecca. After Joseph died, Rebecca went back to live at Rowthorne. Again, she left a will, a copy of which is obtainable from the Derbyshire Records Office. Rebecca is also detailed in a book about the Hardwick Inn, written by Pamela Kettle...now out of print but available through second hand book suppliers.

George Bramley (born 1804 in Rowthorne)married Mary Shaw (born 1801 in Cuckney) on 25 May 1828. He was a carpenter & wheelwright and worked from Rowthorne. They had three children, Charles, Hannah and Ann.

James Bramley (my direct ancestor) was born in 1807 in Rowthorne. He married Sarah Holmes (born 1817 in Ashover)on 26 Nov 1837 in Ashover. They had two children, Mary (born 1838 in Tibshelf and John (my great-grandfather) born 1847 in Tibshelf)

Other information....I have picked up that the William Bramley who married Sarah Tether had a father also by the name of William who was born in 1740 and married Sarah (don't know second name). His father was also a William (!) who married Hannah around 1730. (Hannah may well be a Hannah Goddard born 14 March 1716 at Ilkeston, but I've yet to prove that link).

Also, my research found on rootsweb.com, under Ault Hucknall, that William Bramley and his wife Sarah and children (obviously this would inlcude your ancestor John) had a settlement Certificate granted from Scarcliffe in 1792.

Hope you find this intersting. I'm obviously missing some of the information on your ancestor John, so if you can provide that for me I'd be very grateful.

Sheila Barker (nee Bramley)

Unable to edit the previous post, so I am adding a little extra.
We believe Jack had a sister called Ada? Perhaps the Jack I remember is the son of John? It would seem more likely perhaps bearing in mind the timescales involved.
My wife is not sure now whether Jack was Harriet Ellens cousin or her husbands cousin - he was Robert Johnson (his parents were Jim Johnson and Mary Ann Stoddart).

I shall see if I can work out any family connection later this evening which may give a clue!

Mark

It could well be the same person. I remember Jack Bramley had a hardware store in Ilkeston - but not much else sadly. He was a cousin of my wifes grandmother and died sometime in the 1980's I think.
Sadly all the relations who would know more have passed away now, so apart from the hardware store connection and him being related to the wifes grandmother, I know little else.

His cousin, my wifes grandmother, was called Harriet Ellen Wright prior to her marriage. Her parents were Albert Wright and Edith Taylor if that helps at all.

Thanks for taking the trouble to respond to the post!

Cheers,
Mark
