I am a descendant of William Caswell Branan of Morgan, Georgia. Apparently, his descendants made their way to Arkansas (Faulkner County/Greenbriar areas) and the spelling of the name was altered. I only started researching this today but am very interested in discovering my family lineage so that I can pass it on to my kids. So far - I have been able to trace back to Kenyon Branan from Wales (b 1746) and Elizabeth Caswell (b 1761). Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Or if I have information that someone would like to fill in any "gaps", please let me know.

I read your message but don't recognize any of the names. I am a Branan (born 1950). My father was Walter Joseph Branan born in Vicksburg, MS (1920). His parents were Oscar and Mamie Branan. There were several brothers and sisters, Victor, Mary, Lorena, Clennon and Worth. They mostly lived around Vicksburg, MS and some moved to Arkansas and Louisiana. Don't know if we are related but sounds like we aren't. Although that spelling is very unsual so I thought we might
don't the road somewhere. My parents only had girls so the line stopes with us. Good luck in your search!

Farris Ferone Branan Relatives

This is an update of a message sent two years ago. I was born Farris Farone Branan III in 1945 in Waco, TX. My father was Farris Farone Branan, Jr. He had a brother, Richard who had a wife, Irene and a daughter, Barbara. He also had a sister, Harriette who became Mrs. W. M. Bush in Tampa, FL. I learned all this from letters my parents wrote in the late 1940's through the mid 1950's. Farris Branan, Jr.'s father was Farris Branan, the son of William Caswell Branan and Pamelia Ann Bloodworth. I only know they were from Wilkinson County, Georgia. My parents, Farris and Florence Elizabeth (Smith) Branan, Jr. left me with some people in Texas. By the time I was six or seven, Farris Jr. and Florence dropped out of my life altogether. I was adopted as Thomson at age 13. All my birth records were changed to Thomson but the letters I posses (several hundred, most hand written) are filled with proof of who I am and I do remember Farris Jr. and Florence. Both my birth parents Farris Jr. and Florence are deceased (I have their death certificates and visited their graves several times).

Branam's death notice4-23-1925, Barr, TN spell his last name Branham with sons Fred and Frank daughter Emma Tilman A brother Joe in Texas. Then about a week later the sons are listed as Fred and Frank Branam. Then in researching Fred found two of his children listed in the cemetery records as BRANAN. I was amazed when our first DNA match is for a Daniel BRANDON 1799 VA. We would have never found this connection without the Surname DNA project.

BRANAN/BRANAM variant spellings SURNAME DNA PROJECT

A Branan/Branam Surname DNA Project is underway. The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save years of researching the wrong line. I know one of my Branam's is found with three different spellings. The project is open to all Branan/Branam's and variant spellings anywhere in the world. Samples for the project must be submitted by direct line male Branams. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you can try to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin who will provide a sample. My husband was our first donor and his results should be posted approx.11-28-04. If you want to take advantage of this new research technology please go to: http:/familytreedna.com/surname.asp there click on the B and go down to Branam click on Branam. Family Tree DNA provides the testing. I receive no financial gain from this project. Questions contact me at tracer4236@yahoo.com
Thank you,~Diane Branam

Living Branan Relatives

I may be contacted at farristhomson@hotmail.com.
In reply to the message by Betty Branan Clark. I was born Farris Branan III in 1945. My father was Farris Branan, Jr. He had a brother, Richard who had a wife, Irene and a daughter, Barbara from letters I have that were written in the later 1940's. Their father was Farris Branan. I only know they were from the south around Georgia. I was left by my parents, Florence and Farris with some people in Texas. By the time I was six or seven, my parents dropped out of my life altogether. I lived with the people in Texas until I was romoved by the State of Texas when I was eleven. I was adopted by the Thomson's at age thirteen. Both my birth parents are deceased but I may well be a relative. I have never known my birth family and would like to get acquainted with birth family before I get any older. You may reply at farristhomson@hotmail.com.

Joseph Branan - 1850 CoffeeCo AL

Listed in the 1850 Coffee Co. AL census is a Joseph Branan and his wife Elizabeth, both 31, he was born in GA, she in SC, and their 6 children: Sampson E, Matthew, Martha E., Annie E., Harris M., and Susannah. Does anybody know who these people are? This Joseph is too old (age 31) to be Sampson and Priscilla's son (age 21) and the names of the children do not fit.

I have several lines of James's all the way to my great- grandfather , James Kingan Branan.

My own Branan/Brannan ancestors include the following:
Jonathan Branan, b 1777 in NC, d Mar 08, 1851 in Newton Co GA. Married Mary Polly Duke July 07, 1811 in Morgan Co GA. Their three sons were Calvin b 1812, James K. b 1818 and William Casewell, b 1821 in GA, d 1880 in MS.
Wm Casewell Branan was my gggrandfather. Some of his line has been difficult to follow. According to my grandfather, Thomas Jonathan Brannan, Wm Casewell was married at least 3 times. Wife #1 was Martha Elizabeth Hodge, m Aug 27, 1843 in Newton Co GA. Another wife(he married her in MS) was Aravilla ?. I have been unable to find another wife, but it is possible that Gracy Herndon was married to The Wm Casewell that is in my line. Do any of you other Branan seekers know anything about that? Would appreciated hearing from any of you.

He was 71 when I was born and died when
I was 5 years old. As his brothers passed away, my mom lost touch with my cousins. My aunt cassie is the only one I really remember. She married Thomas Forehand and they had one son. His given name is Branan. He resides near Jesup, GA and has 2 daughters. I do know that my uncle Farris had a son named Richard. I located him several years ago and learned he was also trying to locate family. I believe his first wife lived or still lives in Alabama. His second wife lived with him in Sevierville, TN. They both, I have learned in the past few days have passed away. My uncle Harris had one daughter that I knew. Her name was Margaret and she married a Charles Haddon. My uncle Frank had children but I only remember that we called one daughter Capp. Any thing you can tell me will be greatly appreciated. My dad and his first wife had three children. Charlton Leon, Mary Louise and Elinor Gertrude. The first two passed away when they were very young and Elinor spent most of her life in a state hospital. I have no brothers or sisters and finding family is very important, especially since my mom passed away a few years ago and I have no family on her side either. My e-mail address is pest@coastalnow.net.

Thanks so much for your help,

Betty

This is definately the same James H. Branam, 9th child of Kinian BRANAM and Roweny UPCHURCH. I have a copy of Kinian's will which has James K. BRANAM listed in it. That is where the H & K gets mixed up. However, the penmenship of that time was awful and the K & H do look alike.

Now, my ggrandfather Elisha BRANAM had the middle initial H. I have his death certificate, but it only has the initial. I was told that the H stood for either Harris or Harrison and he went by the name Harry instead of Elisha.

Do you have any BRANAM family in TN? That is where my grandfather was born. I recently found out that Elisha was a partner at a winery in Chattanooga called "LaRose Winery" or something like that. His partner was a jewish man by the name of Rose. During prohibition the police raided all their wine and wiskey and dumped it in the river. I know that there is a ton of BRANAM's in the TN area. Maybe some of your BRANAMs? I would like to find out if anyone else has heard the prohibition story and maybe can confirm it.

Elisha was born in Eatonton, GA, lived and worked in Chatanooga, TN, and died in Montgomery, AL where he and his wife Claude Augusta DUDLEY lived with their daughter Evelyn PETERSEN.

Hopefully some of this info will ring a bell with you or someone else out there.

Thanks again for all your help.
Terri Johnson
