Your Brancaccio family in Piana degli Albanesi.
Hi, I saw your post and think that I may be able to help you with your family research. Michele was born 5 or 6 October 1881 in Piana then Piana dei Greci.
He had 3 sons is that correct? Carl, Victor and George. Were there other children?
His wife Rosa Scalia, daughter of Vito Scalia and Giorgio Riolo.
With the naming order I think that it is possible to assume that the first son Carl was born for a grandfather, named Calogero Brancaccio, there is a Calogero Brancaccio who would be the correct age to be the father of Michele, that would be Calogero Brancaccio born 23 Jan 1851 husband of Maria Sclifo born 6 October 1857.
If you wish to contact me please email me at
nospamLspoto@pacbell.net (remove the nospam before the email address to get to me.)
Sincerely,
Leita

I have been unable to locate parents for my grandfather Mikele Brancaccio (1881-Piana de greci), Piana de Albanese, Sicilia, Palermo, Italy. He married Rosa Scalia (mother Riola,) also Piana de Greci approx 1900 in Sicily, then emigrated through New York in 1907; she came later in 1910.

Oral family history says, he was an only child and that the family was originally from Naples. The clothing in there wedding photo is not typical for the peasants of Palermo in the 1890-1900s. I am visiting Albanese in October 2010 to research at the local church. I needed that long to work on my oral Italian, since my written skills are better.

Apparently a cousin Brancaccio was with my grandfather on arrival to the US. That person remained in NY with other extended family.

Hi Jenny. I have several great uncles who married into the Brancaccio family in Castellammare di Stabia, Napoli, Italy in the 1860s and 1870s.

Giovanni Brancaccio b. abt 1825 and Grazia Cataldo b. abt 1827 (parents)
Liberata Brancaccio b.1855 married to Alfonso Rescigno
Matilde Brancaccio b. 1853 married to Francesco Rescigno
Grazia Brancaccio b. 1860 marriage not located as yet

None of these immigrated to the US. What I have found is the children of those families many have immigrated.

lilbees

I just stumbled across your message. I have been researching my Brancaccio lineage. My grandfather Mikele Brancaccio was born in Piana de Greci, Palermo, Sicily in 1880. Family history states that he was the only surviving son. Up to 15 years ago, there was still an uncle's family living in the area. I know in traveling in northern Italy, the name was widely recognized and related to the South.
The Convention Center in Rome was at one time a home to the Brancaccio family who supported the King.

He had 6 children with Mamie Joyce and they lived in Bellevue Ohio. I have hit a brick wall and I do not know any of his relatives. I do know that they eventually changed there name to Branco as it is today. Please reply or email me at FireFleitz@msn.com.
Hi Jennie,

I did receive your message and in tracing more of my immediate family; my aunt says that my grandfather, Michael was the only boy in his family; he had 2 sisters both died before their 20s. Michael was born in 1881.

I have learned that the Brancaccio family was a noble family around the 900s. The family title was baron. The Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome is related to the family.

When you look up the distribution for the Brancaccio name, the principle areas are Naples, Tuscany, and Palermo regions.

I did send emails to a number of the Brancaccio families on the East Coast. I did speak with Michael Brancaccio (a newscaster in New York), David Brancaccio(a playwright Los Angeles), and s woman in New Jersey. I know that somehow all of these people are related and come from the family heritage centers in Italy.

I live in California. I work for the State of California as a Registered Nurse.
My children live in Texas, Georgia, and Oregon.

I almost forgot, where in Italy does your family come from?

I have been trying to trace this family for years. My grandfather Michel was born in Piana dei Greci, Palermo, Sicily in 1880. He was one of two children. His sister died as a young teen. I know his father's family migrated from Naples to Rome and on to Palermo.
The family seat of the Brancaccio family was Naples. They were a feudal baron "clan" and supported the monarchy. The current Palacio Brancaccio was once the resident palace in Rome. Today it is a major convention center. (there is a web site)
I have friends touring in Sicily now to check with the local parish regarding the family.

There is no one living here in California with further information. I know the family is extensive in New York and New Jersey.

My grandfather's name was misspelled at Ellis Island and on his immigration visa.

I have been researching information on Brancaccio's that came from Caserta Region. Aneillo (born apr 1882) Brancaccio, son of Santo Alessandro Brancaccio (born Nov 1, 1854). Santo had six siblings, four that lived to adulthood: Michele(born 1843), Vincenzo (born 1847 - had 4 children - Carlo, Marta, Geronima and Angela) Lorenzo and Domenico. Santo's father was Carlo (born 1818), and his father was Aneillo. And his father was Michele - born about 1760. If this information ties into anyone's reasearch, please contact me. Also - does anyone know more about the family name history, derivation, etc or a site that would have that information.

I have just discovered the BRANCACCIO link to my FERRUZZI family. The only record I have is the birth of a child. I do know that the Ferruzzi side of my family is from the (Benincasa) Vietri Sul Mare area, in the Region of Campania, Italy. But have no further information about Grazia except the mention of her name and age on the record below.

24 APR 1847, Francesco Annibale Vincenzo Ferruzzi, son of Francesco Ferruzzi age 36, tailor and GRAZIA BRANCACCIO age 27.

This son is my GGgrandfather. I would dearly love to expand on the maternal BRANCACCIO side of this union.
Re: Brancaccio Ancestry

My grandfather's name as it appears on his naturalization card for the United States was written as Brancacio. However, when he signed the ship's manifest to leave Sicily, he signed as Brancaccio, as did his wife.

The Brancaccio name is traced to 700 AD. This was a prominent family who resided in the Palacio Brancaccio outside of Rome. Today the palace is used as a large convention center. On travel in northern Italy, the name is recognized as a southern (Sicily) and Naples name.
You can go into the Italian sites and do a name search and it will show you the distribution list where the family name is established.

I suggest you check the Ellis Island web site for your family's paperwork and you might find that there was a misspelling.
The Roman Catholic Church is the best place to track births, baptisms and deaths for Sicily.

My grandfather too, was a farmer in his homeland.

Good Luck.
Virginia

Hi
I'm trying to find out something about my grandparents. My grandfather came from Palermo Sicily. His name was Andrew Brancuccio and I haven't been able to match the name any where. Do you think it's possible the spelling Branaccio? I have been told his family owned olive orchards in Sicily. I know he had a twin brother. He came to US when he was 18.
I think he was born in 1880. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you

I have an old birth certificate (which has been translated into english) from July 8, 1854
It declares Luigi Brancaccio, son of pietro had a daughter ( maria Marta ) with his wife Felicia Landolfi.
They resided in Baia, "kingdom of naples".
This would be my 3rdgreat grandfather and mother. I know they had seven children.

Email me if any of these names or locations sound familiar in your search.

Hi: I just found your message and I'm sure all the Brancaccio Family thruout the country are related in some way. My maiden name is Brancaccio. I recently found some roots from the Ludovico Brancaccio 1700s)side of the Family which extends up to the present time and I know we have lots of relatives in Caserta, Naples, etc. I am still trying to trace some of them to see if I can establish the direct line of the lineage from my immediate family. I never realized that the Brancaccio family was so world-wide and yes I did hear that the name is very popular and famous in Italy, especially in the Rome and Naples area. As soon as I learn more info I will be happy to pass it along to you. I'm sure we're cousins or distant cousins. Talk to you soon again. Angie

Hi Jen: It was certainly nice hearing from you and that you did recognize us all in the family. I did live in Boca Raton but moved back to NY 4 years ago. But while I was in Florida my sister Rose and I did see your grandfather, Alphonse (we in the family called him Fonzi). The 3 of us saw each other almost the whole time he visited Aunt Rose and we went to the races of course which was his usual past-time that he enjoyed. I spoke with Aunt Rose yesterday and she is doing well. Today I spoke with Uncle Tony, but I wasn't been able to reach Uncle Albert today after I tried it. Will talk to you soon again. It was great getting to know you and in the strangest way. Take care and love to all in the family..from: Aunt Angie (PS Write me your screen aol name and we can connect directly - my screen name is "ambc722@aol.com)

Hi Aunt Angie,
I'm glad that I've found you. My dad remembers you very well. I remember that grandpa Al visited his sisters in Fla. the summer before he died. He showed me pictures of aunt Rose and I think that you may have been in some of them. It was the happiest I've seen him since grandma Jo died. My Dad was in Deerfield Beach, Fla. last month teaching some type of law enforcement class, he tried to reach his uncle who lives there, but was unsucessful. But it was great hearing from you, please stay in touch.
Love,
Jennie

Hello Jennie: I just found your message in this geneology report and seem to recognize that you are my grandniece (one of your grandfather's sisters). If you ask your father Tommy and your mother Jan, they will know me as Aunt Angie and that I am also his Godmother). In fact besides my sister Rose and brother Albert (Alby), we also have brothers Harry & Tony, and another sister Lena. So you see we come with a large family on your grandfather's side. By the way please give my love and regards to your mother and father and everybody. I'll be talking to you soon. Take care...LoveAuntie

hello. My mother's family are Brancaccios, but my grandfather (or maybe his father) Joseph changed it to Branca.

He is now in a nursing home, so I can't ask him about relatives, but my grandmother (Rosalie LaGrue Branca) is still very talkative and I can ask her. She is living on Long Island, as do I, and two of her children (B. Branca Cook and J. Branca Bellos)

There are also Brancas in Georgia. Rosalie's youngest daughter, V. Branca Schaire is there, along with cousins and children.

My grandfather's parents were Nino Brancaccio and Anna Petta, and they were from Piana de Albanese and Palermo, Sicily.
