I've traced my line of the BRAND family in Scotland back
to Ecclefechan as early as 1725 (my g-g-g-g-g grandfather
Robert Brand). No information yet prior to 1725. There
are Williams and Alexanders (including an Alexander Willam,
b. 1761) in my line. Not sure if there is a connection.
My g-g-g grandfather James left Scotland for the United
States in 1819, returned and left again with his wife and
children in 1827. He eventually settled in northern Illinois (by way of New York and Canada) in 1840.
