I come in thru Joseph's youngest Jonathan who married Mary L 'Polly' Smith and so on down to me. I've read and read on Mathias and don't think we will ever know for sure...... Everything so far does seem to point to his being 'royalty' though.

Glad to meet you!
John W. is my great grandfather, who must be connected to the Waverly Brandenburgs. He came to Independence, Iowa in 1868 and raised his family. His Obit just says "Other relatives present were Chris Andres and wife of Tinley Park, Chicago, and John Brandenburg and wife and Richard Brandenburg of Waverly".It also says John W. had a brother and sister in Chicago, ILL.
John W.'s parents are Fred (b. Prussia abt 1817)and Louisa from the Chicago area. I'm thinking Fred must be the connection
I understand a descendant of Gilbert had the genealogy for this famuly and may be helpful.
email: eshivers1@netzero.com
Hi Isabelle,
I believe I'm one of your cousins. Specifically 1C1R. You can contact me by email directly at born2nd@comcast.net.
My grandfather would be your dads brother William Frederick Brandenburg who married Mabel Francis Andrews. From the info I could gather they had two sons Wilfred Leopold, b.1922 Brandenburg(my father), and George, b. abt 1930.
I am the one that posted the original posting in 2001. My father Wilfred(Bill) left when I was one year old so I never knew him or any of his side of the family. I did, however, get to meet him when I was 15 y.o. but he was remarried at that time and had four more kids so he wasn't real interested in getting to know me.
I would really like to talk to you some more as you are the only living link, that has communicated, from his side of the family. Maybe you can fill in some of the blanks that I have in the lineage and maybe some pictures. What you saw online is all I've been able to find over the years. Its been pretty much a dead end until now.
I had a brother Wilfred Leonard that just died this year and a sister Julianna Louise that lives in Portland, Oregon. I live in McMinnville, Oregon which is about 40 miles outside Portland.
Hoping to hear from you.
Bruce Brandenburg

Elisabeth Ruth Brandenburg

My uncle, Robert Lungren (b: 1927 in Florida; d: 1991 in Florida) was married 3 times. His second wife is a bit of a mystery but I believe her name was Betty and they had a son named George, born in Arkansas. When Robert and Betty married, she was the widow of George Baxter, also from Florida. The bits and pieces that I have uncovered lead me to believe that Betty may have been Elisabeth Ruth Brandenburg, born 1929 in Florida, daughter of Edward and Pauline Brandenburg. Any connections out there?

BRANDENBURG FROM HAMBURG

I am hoping to find some "living" Brandenburgs in the city of Hamburg, Germany. My Grandfather, Charles Dethlefsen, came to America somewhere around 1911-1915. We know that he had a sister, Jenny, who remained in Germany and married a Brandenburg. She wrote to my mother once, mentioning two sons (no names). I'm hoping that somewhere out there a contact can be made!

Note: Also, Brandenburg was the name on the envelope she addressed, so there was no other spelling.

There were Brandenburgs in Waverly, and they did own a jewelry store there.. but the owner has long been dead, and the store became a german restaurant bearing the same name for a while before closing recently. Gilbert Brandenburg was his name and his family came over from Prussia. If you have any connections to him please e-mail me and let me know - he was my great grandfather, and it would be great to connect with other relatives.

I have just come across some information that one of my relatives was a Brandenburg(er) and came over as a stowaway on a ship from Germany. On latter census records, he changed his name to Fowler, and says his mother was from KY...trying to piece any info together as to where he may have come from and how he ended up in the South...

Just thought the KY connection might be a lead. His name was Ruben Brandenburg(er) changed to William Fowler. came over in the 1870's.

The royal house currently on the British throne is,in fact, German, the House of Saxe-Gothe-Coburg to be exact. Hence, the origins of a common slur among British revolutionaries circa 1770 who referred to the reigning monarch as "German Georgie", because he was-German, that is. In the ultimate act of biting your nose to spite your face, Parliament put William of Orange, a German, on the throne of England rather than Bonnie Prince Charlie, the rightful Scottish Stuart heir. So why are they now styled as the "House of Windsor"? During World War I, the British press began to make an issue of the German origins of their monarchy, not an auspicious association given that Kaiser Wilhelm was knocking on England's door in a big way.In an effort to put that issue in the background, the family assumed the surname of "Windsor". If one examines the marriages that Queen Victoria, dubbed "the grandmother of Europe", made for her many children, the lion's share married into Germanic houses. During World War II, there were rumors of a group of British nobles with family ties to Germany who would have welcomed a Nazi regime and may have been acting as agents for the Third Reich. (That would be a good query for the predecessors of James Bond's superiors.) But one thing is certain-while there are definitely peers of the realm whose roots hail back to William the Conqueror, that cannot be said for descendants of the British monarchy after the overthrow of the Royal House of Stuart.

I show a Pearl Brandenburg buried in Little Bethel Cemetery. She was married first to Jim Franklin Brandenburg, then to his brother Jesse James Brandenburg. Jim was killed in an accident abt 1919. I knew her personally in the 1960's. I have a photo of her gravesite taken in 2007 showing she was born in 1883 and died 1971. Her maiden name was Perry.

There has been confusion in the family for years over whether it is Brandenburg or Brandenburger. I wonder if you might be a long lost member of the Brandenburger side of the family. Please email me back and lets talk. Katherine

My mothers maiden name is Brandenburg... and I have the family tree going back to 1890s with a Mikhael Brandenburg being the "first" the records show in our family... He settled in Detroit (and the rest of my family)...
Been doin research recently and the name Brandenburg was a title held by nobility during the Holy Roman Empire between 1415 and 1815 before the HRE dissolved... now the Margraviate of Brandenburg was around before then, since apporx 1157 before Slavs migrated west from Eastern Europe... BUT after the HRE went ka-put... Prussia annexed it and Unified a whole Germany afterwards around 1871 thanks to Otto von Bismark during the Franco-Prussian war...
Now I have fair reason to believe that my side of Brandenburgs and other migrants that left from Germany to USA were leaving because of the ousting of Bismark and William the Second basically destroying the alliances with Britian and Russia... and being casted away from the royal family because they didnt side with William...

My father was Leopold William Brandenburg. The only information I have is that the family had a farm in Woodridge, N.J. They moved to a home which is now the Library of Woodridge. His mother's name was Isabella Doretta Schmidt. He had an aunt called Augusta. He was married twice. My mother was his second wife, Grace Wilson.I know he had a brother named Henry.I know one cousin, Barbara, whose father was Henry.I'd love to find out more and also hear from some relatives. I am not too young, born May 1929, have a brother Leo who is 18 months younger. There was also my father's Grandmother Peters.
