Hello,
Like you I am trying to piece together the past. My Grandfather was Donald R. Brandes who passed in 2008, his father and mother were George and Marion Brandes (which I found out recently, are buried in Stockton, MN).
My grandfather was one of thirteen children. I think all of them have now passed. All of his children, with the exception of my father is still alive. I can certainly ask about Ethel if you like.

Very kindest regards,
Chad R Brandes

Hi I just happened to look at the old post and notice your response (some many years later). The only thing I can tell you is that Howard had a brother named Milton Brandes and he was married to Mary. They had three children Tommy (deceased) I believe the daughter was named Arlene and she was married to a man named Jimmy (I do not know his last name) and a daughter named Pat and she was married to a man named Mal. Sorry no last name there either. My father did not talk much about the family but I do know Howard re-married. I believe Juliana was his first wife I know nothing of the second. Howard cut ties with my father Elwood because he married my mother Ethel Mount. I had a brother Elwood H. Brandes (deceased) and myself. My brother also estranged himself from the family he had two children. As for myself I have three (2 adopted and 1 natural.
Hope this helps. Thanks for the info though. Thats the most I have ever had on my father.

My grandfather was Gilbert Brandies and lived in Racine. He married Bernita (Bonita) Boss and had many children including my mother Patricia Carol Brandies. I'm not sure if he's the same Gilbert Brandies, but I have been having a lot of trouble trying to go back any further. I have his birth year according to census as either 1887 or 1884. If you think this is the same person, I would love to be able to collaborate. Thanks, Denise

Look at my information at Hardin Family Tree, it's public.

Charles was married to Louise Maunsell of Chicago, IL, who emigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in about 1867-1869 with her parents and siblings. Louise was the sister of my great-grandfather Francis F. Maunsell, and I’ve done quite a bit of research on the Maunsell family. I just recently discovered that Louise was married to Charles Brandes and had two children: Helen (b. 1885) and Solon (b. 1888). If this is of interest, let me know.

Jody (Maunsell) Parker

Gerhart Brandes

I'm looking for information on Gerhart Brandes (1860 - 01 May 1930) who immigrated to the US from Germany with his wife, Anna Kramer Brandes (21 Oct 1861 - 12 Oct 1932), in the 1880s. They arrived in Galveston, and settled in LaGrange, Fayette County, Texas.

Gerhart and Anna raised at least five daughters:

Elfriede Wiemken (1889 - 04 Feb 1971), Annie Helen Hattermann (1891 - 01 Nov 71, Bertha Janssen (1893 - 21 May 74), Charlotte Schroeder (21 Sep 1894 - 9 Jul 1968 in Austin, TX), and my maternal grandmother, Erika Hanisch (Sep 1897 - 04 Sep 1969).

I found one record -- census data, I believe, that shows that Gerhard Brandes lived in Oldenberg, Germany. I would like to verify this, and also to find out the names and, if possible, the dates of his parents.

I'm more than happy to share what I have. My sister may have some additional data also.

Best,

Michael McBroom
Houston, TX

Thanks for your response. We believe your father Elwood W. Brandes was the son of Howard C. Brandes (born 13 Aug 1896, died Jan 1965 and Juliana. Howard was the son of George Adolph Brandes (born 17 Jan 1873) and May Harrison Brandes. George had a brother Victor Albert Brandes (born 10 Sep 1863, died 9 Aug 1930). Victor had a daughter Johanna Christine Brandes who married Diedrich Schlingplesser. Around World War I, Diedrich changed his last name to Plesser. Diedrich had a daughter and a son Richard Plesser who is my father. Can you fill in any of the gaps on your side of the family? Thanks again for responding.

I saw today that your post of 2003 had a name of Minnie Lipson (maiden name). I married Arthur David Lipson and have been researching his family. I now know that his great-uncle (whom he knew nothing about) Itzik/Isidore Lipson married to Molly Ellis, had lots of children, mostly sons, but among them a daughter Miriam/Minnie Lipson, born in 1896 in NY, NY. There my trail for Minnie Lipson ends. I hope you may be able to fill me in.

Thanks.

Rochelle Kaplan
