Hi Allan,
I am not sure if you received the message I sent through my wife's Ancestry account and so I am replying again here. I am delighted that you responded to my posting and I would like to share information about the family. You can contact me directly at johnhodges@dccnet.com and I will let you have some details of your TITTERTON/LOVEGROVE/ILES ancestry. For your information, we are third cousins once removed. I was unaware that Rosina Kate (Eena) had married a MORRIS before Clarence BRANDLE. What was your father's name and where were they married? I look forward to hearing from you,
John HODGES
British Columbia
Re: Brandle in April 2010.
Rosina (Eena)Titterton - (Morris)was my mother from her 1st marriage and Brandle was her 2nd husbands surname.
Hi Kerri,
I believe that Eena may be Rosina Kate TITTERTON, who was born in England in 1914. Her parents were George and Kate Maria (nee LOVEGROVE). Kate Maria’s parents were James LOVEGROVE and Kate Eliza ILES. I am related through the ILES family which I have traced back to the 1600s. I would be delighted to hear from you.
John HODGES
British Columbia
Hi, I was wondering if you had more information. I believe your grandfather's brother who settled in Saskatchewan was my Great Grandfather George Brandle - married Mary. They had son named Adam (my grandfather) who left Unity Saskatchewan and raised his family near Edson Alberta. I don't have too much information on the Brandle side of my family, and if anyone can offer me anything, that would be appreciated.

I believe this to be part of the Braendle family coming from Europe to New York:

New York Passenger Lists 1820-1857
Jacob Brendle, Arrival Date 21 Sept 1846, Estimated birth year about 1794, Gender Male, Port of Departure Rotterdam, Netherlands, Ship Name Turkina
Jacob Brendle, 52, Male, Shoemaker, Wurtemberg, United States of America
Johann Georg, 26, Male, Weaver, Wurtemberg
Wilhelm, 25, Male, Shoemaker, Wurtemburg
Johanna Frederika, 22, Female, Wurtemburg
Wilhelmine Catherine, 16, Female, Wurtemberg

And these look suspicious but am not sure they belong. We know a Johannes Braendle married Barbara Eberwein and they were the parents of thirteen children born between 1845 and 1869:

Ship Charles, from Le Havre, New York, Date of Arrival May 12, 1836
Johannes Brandel, 19, Male, farmer, Baden (bc1817)

Ship Tecumseh, Le Havre France, New York, Date of Arrival June 9, 1845
Jean Brindle, 14 (bc1831)
Barb Eberwein, 23 (bc1822)
Judith Brundle, 29 (bc1816)

Also found these on the 1851 Census:
On the 1851 Census of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario are:
John Brandly, Shoemaker, born Germany, Methodist, Married, aged 29, Male
Barbara, his Wife, born Germany, Methodist, Married, aged 27, Female
John, his Son, born Canada, Methodist, aged 7, Male
Catherine, his Daughter, born Canada, Methodist, aged 6, Female (Twin)
Frederica, his Daughter, born Canada, Methodist, aged 6, Female (Twin)
Mary Ann, his Daughter, born Canada, Methodist, aged 4, Female
Levi, his Son, born Canada, Methodist, aged 1, Male

George Eberwein, Labourer, born Germany, Lutheran, Married, aged 28, Male
Elizabeth, his Wife, born England, Lutheran, Married, aged 18, Female
Mary, his Daughter, born Canada, Lutheran, aged 3, Female

William Brandly, Shoemaker, born Germany, Lutheran, Married, aged 32, Male
Magdalin Brandly, his Wife, born Germany, Lutheran, Married, aged 27, Female
William Brandly, his Son, born Canada, Lutheran, aged 2, Male

Helen Bingleman
Hi,

I am trying to find information on the three daughters of Johannes/John Braendle and his wife Barbara who I believe married Keller brothers. Benjamin Keller was married first to Sophia Braendle and after her death married the sister Sarah. I believe Mary Ann Braendle was the wife of Menno Keller, Benjamin and Menno both moved from the Waterloo area to Michigan.

I have found this in the 1851 Census of Wellesley, Waterloo and believe it to be the parents of Johannes/John Braendle. Not sure of the wife's name, it's a little hard to make out, but the ages correspond with the list below the census information:

On the 1851 Census of Wellesley, Waterloo, Ontario are:
Jacob Brindle, Shoe Maker, born Germany, Lutheran, Married, aged 58, Male
Ulit/Julit/Judit Brindle, born Germany, Lutheran, Married, aged 62, Female
Katharine Brindle, born Germany, Lutheran, Sinfgle, aged 21, Female
Log House, Weather Boarded, 1 1/2 Stories, 1 Family occupying
District Number: 38 Sub District Name: Wellesley Township - includes concession A, lots 17 and 18

And I beleive the above census shows another daughter not listed below:
Descendants of John-Jacob Brendlen

1 John-Jacob Brendlen	1794 -
.. +Juditha Braun	1790 -
......	2 Anna Marie Braendle
......	2 Joan Friebrike Braendle
......	2 John George Braendle
......	2 Katherine Wilhelmine Braendle
......	2 Marie Elizabeth Braendle
......	2 Marie Magdalena Braendle
......	2 Wilhelm Friedrich Braendle
......	2 Johannes Braendle	1824 - 1900
.......... +Barbara Eberwein	1826 - 1910
...............	3 Johannes Braendle	1845 - 1929
................... +Mary Schaeffer	1847 - 1887
...............	3 Friederica Braendle	1846 -
...............	3 Marianne Braendle	1849 -
...............	3 Levi Braendle	1851 - 1851
...............	3 Levi Braendle	1852 -
...............	3 Sophia Braendle	1854 - 1886
................... +[1] Benjamin Keller	1853 -
...............	3 Fredrica Braendle	1856 -
...............	3 Christina Braendle	1859 -
...............	3 Sarah Braendle	1861 - 1897
................... +[1] Benjamin Keller	1853 -
...............	3 Moses Braendle	1862 -
...............	3 Henry Braendle	1867 -
...............	3 Samuel Braendle	1869 -

Any help confirming the daughter Marianne/Mary Ann was married to Menno Keller would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Helen Bingleman
For some time I have been searching for information about Amalia Reiling who married a Brandle. She was born 23 July 1840 in Ersingen, Baden, Germany. I have a note which she wrote to her brother in German. That is the only key I have to her married name. They lived in Hamilton Co, Illinois and she was thought to be in the St Louis area. Any connection?

Dear Barbara, so glad to hear that you have a Brandle in the Family too. Our Brandles came to St. Louis. Mo. !850s from Switzerland. As far as I can tell Rudulf Brandle came as a carpenter. They trained them quite well and the big city needed them. He then joined the Union Army under Gen. Lyons out of St. Louis. He married a Maria Krug(an American-born of German parents from New York or New Jersey). They lived in Illinois,Missouri and Kansas. They returned to St. Louis,Mo. where some of our family is still. We still have many unanswered questions ourselves. Rudulf as far as I have heard did not have family. But maybe he did?

Gwen,

just to put our records straight (database records, I mean, since these board messages are being indexed and are searchable therefore):

Your subject says BRANDLE in CA (probably as a reply to that thread?), but then you give details on people with the surname BANDLE. If this is only a typo, please let us know so that I can go change the surname field. ;-)

Thank you

Tilman

Hi Raymond,

welcome to the Brandl (and variants) Board! Nice to see one of our surname-cousins drop by ;-)

I hope you'll get any replies to your query, maybe some time later if anybody with a connection (or information) reads your message.

You wrote it's hard for you to get ahold of your grandfather (and maybe other members of the family too, if there are any?). Talking to ones own dad, granddad etc. anyway is the primary approach to your family history, especially if your questions are related to people still alive - but I'm not telling you a secret here, I know ; )

Given that it may be difficult for you to talk to your granddad (and possibly your father?), maybe you can still make him/them search for some of their basic documents like birth or marriage certificates and send you copies? This way you would have a good starting point for further researching your family.

My father died 3 years ago - I can't tell you how *many* questions I have had on my mind since that I would've liked to ask him. Most of them will be left without an answer since he was the last one in my family who could have known....

Good luck
Reagrds

Tilman Brandl

Bartle E. BRANDLE, b. Sept 1898 Aberdeen, So. Dakota, USA

In researching other surnames in Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota, United States of America this summer, I came across the following in "Baptisms 1880 to 1911" (page 31) at Sacred Heart Church (Catholic):

child: Bartle Engelbert Brandle ["Brondel" was crossed out and corrected]
birth date: 11 Sept 1898
baptismal date: 18 Sept 1898
residence: Aberdeen
father: Jacob Brandle (again, "Brondel" was crossed out and corrected)
mother: Francisco (sic) Volig
male sponsor: Engelbert Miller
female sponsor: Maria Bachmeir (?)
minister: Rev. J. O'Hora [a Catholic priest]

This information is all I know about this BRANDLE. I tried to corroborate the information on the South Dakota birth records web site, and found nothing at all, even though he was born more than one hundred years ago.

The South Dakota birth records web site is

http://www.state.sd.us/applications/PH14Over100BirthRec/inde...

Regards,

Miriam Dapra

My father was born in Lousiana, but I do not know if that was because of being stationed there or being there 'naturally'.

I know very little beyond that. My grandfather is in Arizona now, and hard to get ahold of.

Any information anyone may have would be great!

Criticalpedestrian@yahoo.com

My name is Bill Brandle and my dad came from the Johnstown, PA area (Geistown). He found his great great grandfather was George Brandl from Barvaria, Germany.
If you have more information or want to work together on this, you can email me at wabrandle@msn.com.

My grandmother was Anna Ursula Brandl, father was Michael Brandl I could never locate. On the ship she immigrated on, it listed her birthplace as Kaltenthal, Germany. She lived in Piopolis illinois as did her sisters.
Michael Brandl was married to Dorothy Hoelze and had children, Anna Ursula b Sept 1847, Catherine, b Oct 1839, Barbara b April 1842, and Anne b Apr 1845

Another thought..illinois has a statewide marriage index thats accessable on line. see what you can find there. Not all of the counties are listed (like hamilton county where some Brandls lived) but many are.
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/archives/marriage....

Paul

(Admin's note: 2 answers being re-posted from the mailing list where it erraneously appeared)

My grandmother, Theresa Brandl migrated from Austria to Chicago in 1922. Her father's name was Jacob Brandl. Jacob did not move to Chicago, but 3 of his 14 sibling's (Frank, Wenzel, Mary) did.

Regards, Josie

Jacob stayed in Austria. I have found his grave location via the internet. He is buried in Machlinec, Galitzia (Was Austria, now Ukraine). I don't know of any of my Brandl family that was born in the states. All born in Europe.

(Admin's note: Answer being re-posted from the mailing list where it erraneously appeared)

I have a Charles P Brandle, who was born about 1872 in Illinois. I think his father may have been from Switzerland. Charles married Isbella "Belle" Keller, born in 1874 in Missouri. They had one son, Theodore C Brandle, born about 1893 in Missouri. He married Nola, born about 1897. They had one child, June, born about 1917 in Missouri.

I don't think I'll be able to help you. My Brandls originate (I think) in Austria, and I have no idea whether any of them made it to America with that same last name.

But because genealogy is all about seeking (and sometimes finding!) needles in haystacks, what do you have for names and dates?

Miriam

(Admin's note: Answer being re-posted from the mailing list where it erraneously appeared)

Where did Jacob end up? My GGrandfather was John Frederick and his father was Joseph I've been told but can't prove anything..... John was supposeably born in Missouri in 1866. But the only thing I can find is a 1870 census that I think fits for Joseph Brandli. Any help would be appreciated.
