CARL ERICK BRANDT
Malung Township

OSTERLUND, which was Carl Erick's father's last name, went to sea at the age of 16 years and on one of the boats on which he sailed he took the position formerly held by a man named, "BRANDT". But he not only took the job, he also took the name of the man he replaced.

Carl ERICK BRANDT, known as C.E. Brandt, fra that time, was fra Jamtland, in the northern part of Sweden and Beda OLSON was fra Varmland in southern Sweden. She went north to Jamtland to seek work and there she met Carl and they were married in 1884. They had two children while they were living in Sweden: Anna and Carl. In 1890 they immigrated to North America and it took 3 or more weeks to cross the Atlantic Ocean and reach Ottawa, Canada.

Fra Ottawa, they jorneyed by train and when they were at Montreal, their daughter, Anna, fell under the wheels of the train and was killed. This shock brought on the premature birth of their 3rd child: Gustav Adolph.

When they were able to travel again, they went to Dassel, MN, there they lived for five years. Their 4th child, Bennie was born at Dassel. In 1885 they came to Roseau County and homesteaded in Malung Township. The log house in which they lived is now the home of Beda BRANDT and Mrs Albert BRANDT.

Of their ten children, three died at an early age. Mrs BRANDT died of blood poisoning. Mr BRANDT later married Hannah DANIELSON. The BRANDT family included the foloowing children:
Anna
Bernard
Rose
carl
Esther
Ottolina
Mathilda
Elsie
Gustav Adolph
Oscar William
Albert
