I recently purchased a bunch of old photos while visiting Illinois. One photo shows 37 children with their school teacher. Ten names are labeled on the reverse (in order) - "Eva Rance, Mildred Gray, Delores Gray, Helen Brandt, Carni Harms, Jim Bowden, Miss Bone, Elma Alberts, Herb Buss, Karl Krause". I do not know where the photo was taken.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

Conrad Brandt family

My search begins in Somerset Co.PA. around 1800. My gggrandfather Conrad Brandt, b.about 1799 in Somerset began a lifelong friendship with Jeremiah Hochstetler, b. 1786 also in Somerset. They both moved to Ohio and both married around 1820. Jeremiah married Elizabeth Brandt. (She may have been Conrad's sister, but I can't prove this) He later remarried to Mary Forney.
Conrad married Magdaline Rhinehart. He later remarried to Martha Hochstetler. (Jeremiah's daughter by Mary Forney)
They both ended up in Winnesheik Co. (Canoe Creek) IA. (now Decorah) around 1850.
Conrad's son, Eli married Catherine Hochstetler (also one of Jeremiah's daughters).
There are many twists and turns in these lines.
I am interested in anything relating to these two families around 1800 and before in Somerset,Pa as this is my "dead end" of the Brandt line. Any info or references you may want to share would be greatly appreciated.
If there is any info I could provide please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your time.
Brandt/Brant, John Andrew (1823-1884), relation to Chief Jospeh Brant?

Family lore has an ancestor related to Chief Joseph Brant. I have not been able to find any information so I was hoping someone might be able to help me. Here is what I have:
John Andrew Brant (legal name Andrew John Brant), b: 28-Jun-1823, Dunhep, Columbia County, NY; d: 2-Jun-1884, Manorton, Columbia County, NY, at age 61y 11m 3d; buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore, Lackawanna Co., PA.

Claire McKarns did extensive research on this family, and here is a comment she posted in her LDS file:
"Oral history from Blanche Fairfield Fuhrmann: said he was a full blooded Indian, died before she was born (1902). Her cousin and brother told her the Brant family was related to Joseph Brant, Mohawk Indian Chief. He lived from 1743 to 1807 near Niagara, NY"

John Andrew Brant is the son of Christian Brant and Elizabeth Kuhn. Christian was born 11-Sep-1790 in NY and died in 1857.

Christian is the son of Johan Christian A Brant (parents unknown), born 1751 in Prussia, Germany. He died in 1831 in New Lebanon, Columbia Co., NY. He was a Hessian soldier. Came to America after 1775 to fight for the British. In 1777 he deserted. in 1778 he joined the American troops. About 1787, he married Margerit/Margaretha/Margaret Braun/Brown (b: about 1750, Ancram, Columbia, NY). I don't have any information on her family.

Elizabeth Kuhn, born about 17-May-1802, NY, died 12-Aug-1877, Scranton, Luzerne, PA, buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore, Lackawanna, PA. She was married to Christian in 1822. Elizabeth was the daughter of Marcus Kuhn (b:19-Jun-1775, d:1818) and HeLena "Lena" Williams (b. 1763, d:1817). Marcus and HeLena were married 14-Jun-1801.

My problem is that I can't see a connection between someone born in Germany and an American Indian. I'm wondering if the relationship is not in the "Brant" male line, but maybe on of the wives' lines. I have also found records where the name is spelled "Brandt".

Sorry if this is longwinded. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks! Barb
Brandt Ancestry

I am related on my mother's side to Abraham Brandt who relocated from Strasburg, Mt. Joy area to Stoney Creek, next to Elk Lick Township in Somerset County PA. I have done extensive research on Abraham and his lineage and am able to retrace his parents (mother's name was not on any township lists; so we suppose she did not survive the journey) all the way back emigrating from Switzerland in 1718. I am willing to share what information I have if, in fact, Conrad and Abraham were related in any way. Several children of my line of Brand(t)/Brant went to Ohio in the early 1800s. I am presently looking at correspondence from Dodge(?) Minnnesota December 1809 so that is eveidence that some of the family went further westward. Abraham settled in Stony Creek and was part of the 1796 land assessment. He fathered nine children whose names I would be willing to share if anyone is interested. My line is Groff/Graeff/Grove/Graff, Hoover, Keller, Christner, Berkey, Moyer,Landis and Lichliter.

I am distantly related to Kimberly Brandt Renz. In 2001 she posted a lot of queries about our Brandt family on rootsweb and genforum, which being new to computers I have only seen rather recently. I have a lot of information for her about the Brandt family of Millerstown Perry,Pa. that I would like to share. Unfortunately I have no way of contacting her as the Email addresses listed are all invalid. If anyone knows how I could contact her or a way for her to contact me I would greatly appreciate it.

Perry Brandt

Hi, I am looking for information on my gr-gr grandfather, Frederick. He was born in Prussia in 1827, immigrating to the US in 1852, we believe. He served in the US Army as a scout in Oregon/Washington Territories, and later immigrated to present day Kelowna area. Where I am stuck at is the exact year he immigrated, where and when he was born (I think it was in a village near Berlin), who isparents were, and how/where can I search records for further information about him. Any information will be helpful. Thanks,
Steven

Brandt - Philadelphia, looking for realtives

My father passed away in 1981. I only ever met his side of the family once many years ago, and I have an empty place in my heart that yearns to locate even a cousin. My father's name was Stanley W. Brandt b: 1924,. His brothers were William D. Brandt, jr b: 1915, and Lewis H. born 1916. My fathers parents were William D. Brandt (b:1880) and Lillian (Lillie) born 1885. They were all born in Pennsylvania and lived in Philadelphia during most of their childhood. I know his parents died young and my dad was in an orphanage for a few years before joining the marines. My father's Aunts married names were Rixson, Pearson and Mcblain. I dont think my Uncle Lewis H. had children, but I think my Uncle William Jr. did. IS it even possible to locate living relatives, and how do you know for sure that they are the "right" ones?

Any help would greatly appreciated.

julie Brandt

Hi, I am looking for info about my grandmother Ursula Stiffler's uncle, Werner Brandt. I am not certain where he was born, but he spoke German, and was of German descent. He lived in Toronto in the 1920's close to my great-grandmother Maria Stiffler (nee Brandt). He married a woman named Loretta. I think he may have moved to Oakville Ontario later on. Please reply if you have heard of this family!

Maria Margareta Brandt - US, Germany, Swiss, Canada?

my great grandmother is Maria Margareta Brandt. She was born 6 April, 1895 in Staunton, Virginia USA. She died April 1955 in Toronto. I have very little information about her except that she married Eric Alexander Stiffler and had two daughters, Ursula and Rita, and emigrated to Canada. What is confusing though is that Ursula was born in Konstanz Germany, and the family travelled from Switzerland. An infomation from in my father's old records lists Maria's birthplace as the US. I have an old picture of Maria's mother, Christina Brandt, and it is from Konstanz Germany.

Maria also had a brother named Werner Brandt that my father remembers meeting in Toronto as a child.

I am hoping that some of this information mmight sound familiar to somebody!

Jacob Brandt was born in 1827 in Carroll Township, York County, and is a son of Jacob and Rachel (McClure) Brandt, of York County, who, like the grandparents, followed farming. Jacob Brandt was reared a farmer, and always followed that occupation. He owns 275 acres of some of the best land in the township, adjoining which he owns a small place of five acres, where his son David lives; he is the owner also of thirty acres of mountain land, several building lots in Dillsburgh, three places in Adams County, and a fine building in Mt. Holly, Cumberland Co., Penn. In 1848 he married Sarah Smith, a daughter of John S. Smith, who came from England, in 1827. They have had the following children: Mary E. (deceased), David, John, Sarah E. (deceased), Albert, Harry C. (deceased). They all belong to the Evangelical Church, to which Mr. Brandt was steward for ten years. In connection with his farming, he also deals in horses and mules, and has for twenty-one years quite extensively engaged in that trade.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

I am doing some volunteer research for a local historic cemetery. I am trying to get info on the people buried there. If anyone has some additional info regarding any of the Brandt's I have listed I'd really appreciate it and will gladly share anything that I have. Keep in mind these Brandt's are in no special order and may not be related or come from the same line. They are buried in PA, but a lot of them may not be originally from here. The town has consisted of a lot of immigrants as well as people simply arriving from other states. Thank you!
Lena Brandt 1873-1954
John Brandt 1865-1925
Charles H.
Brandt genealogy

I would like to hear from someone who has any information on the Brandt family of Danville, Illinois. Frederick C. Brandt and his wife Johanna C. Lange came from Prussia. They had the following children; Charles L, Frank, Herman, Louis, Richard, Emma, Ida and Minnie. Fred or his father was a saloon keeper but eventually he built "The Brandt Building" in Danville, Illinois. They were also in the Cigar Manufacturing Business. His daughter in law, Elizabeth Young Brandt wife of Charles L was living in the apartments of this building when she pasted away. Most of them are buried in a family plot in Springhill Cemetery, Danville, IL. Ida Brandt passed away in Florida but was returned to Danville. Herman was living in Kankakee, IL when he passed away and Louis moved to San Diego, CA. Although they were a very prominent family very little information has been left on this family and apparently no descendants still live in the Danville, IL area.
I am connected to this family in two ways, my great-grandfather's (John Peter Gillis) youngest sister (Eva Gillis) married Richard Brandt who helped build the Vermilion County Courthouse among others. Second, Charles Brandt's wife Elizabeth was a Young and born in Perrysville, IN in Sept 1864. Her parents were Mathias and Anna Young. Interesting enough their first names were my second great-grandparents (Gillis) names and the Gillises and Churches came from Prussia also (1835 and 1840). Elizabeth's mother's maiden name was Church, this was my second-great-grandmother's maiden name (Rebecca Church). Rebecca had two brothers Nicholas and Andrew Church and a half brother Mathias Harris. Andrew Church moved to Carrolton, MO. On Nicholas' death certificate it said his father was YOUNG Church, although other indications show it was John Church. If anyone has any information on this family please please contact me. Thanks.

Simeon Brant/Brandt 1790-1830 Wayne county, New York

Simeon Brant married Sarah Herrington or Herndon in what was then Genesse County about 1800. He lived in Palmyra and Macedon until 1836 when he and his family migrated to Berrien County, Michigan. Records indicate he served in the War of 1812 for a year and then re-enlisted. He received two alnd warrants for his service. I assume these where in Ontarion/Wayne County. His son Nathaniel reportedly was born in 1815 in Macedon. Simeon would have been born about 1776 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island. This name is also spelled Brandt.
Hi,
I am an American photographer working in Denmark at an antique store in Copenhagen.

We have just received a beautiful portrait of a family called Friedrichsen, and I thought you might want the information on the back of the oil painting for anyone searching for some ancestors.

On the back of the portrait was a typed letter telling who was in the painting. It reads (and I am translating it)

Portrait of the family Friedrichsen 1857

Father: Erich David Niels Friedrichsen, immigrant from Germany
Mother: Maria Hansigne Christiane Brandt, born May 20, 1815, died March 17, 1895
Daughter: Nicoline Cathrine Friedrichsen, born October 5, 1839, died March 30, 1912
Son: Hans-Jørgen Oluf Friedrichsen, born November 8, 1842, death in America unknown

Father lived in Ærøskøbing, and later with the family moved to Nordenbrogaard, Langeland (Langeland is an island in southern Denmark). Son moved to America circa 1865.

If you want to see the portrait, I have put it on our server.

http://62.242.152.102/Customers/friedrichsen\.html

Becky Pedersen
becky@kmc-soft.dk

Jack Brandt-TX, IL

I am looking for any information on Jack Brandt who was 11 years old in the Granite City, Illinois 1930 census. He was listed as the grandson of Mary Brading-head of household, he was born in Texas-approx. 1919, his father born in Missouri and mother born in Illinois. I think that he was the son of Mary's daughter who may have had a previous name of Cofield, Mary's sons were also listed in the household, Walter and Raleigh Cofield. The 1930 census is the only place I have found any of these people other than Mary Brading listed in my great grandfather's obituary as a survivor. I believe Mary's maiden name would have been Linn.

Looking for any information regarding Warren Brandt, artist, who served in the U. S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Was a member of the Class of 43-I in 1943. He is listed as "artist" in the aviation cadet preflight staff handbook. Fellow airman hopes to make connection with him or his family. Would probably bear a birthdate between 1919-1924. In 1943, he was stationed at Maxwell Field in Alabama and from there he went to Orangeburg, SC for primary. Thanks for any assistance.

I'm trying to find out what happened to my father's uncle Gustaf Eric and his aunt Emilia C Brandt. Their parents were Eric Albin and Christina Brandt who emmigrated from St Tuna Parish, Sweden in 1887-1888. These two chidren were born in OH but the family was living in East Chicago IN after approx 1890. I know Gustaf lived in East Chicago until at least 1910, and that he was alive in 1935. The only records I've been able to find of Emilia's existence are the 1900 census and ship manifest from Sweden. Please please please! email me if you have any clues for me to pursue.

Brandt/Hochstetler

Hello,
I have an interest in the Hochstetler family and, of course, many questions. My interest begins in Somerset, PA. in around 1800. My gggrandfather Conrad Brandt began a lifelong friendship with Jeremiah Hochstetler.
Conrad's son, Eli married Catherine Hochstetler.
There are many twists and turns in these lines.
I am interested in anything relating to these two families around 1800, Somerset, Pa as this is my "dead end" of the Brandt line. Any info or references you may want to share would be greatly appreciated.
If there is any info I could provide please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your time

Mike Brandt
Email: oaxaca@charter.net
