Henry Brandt came over from Hanover about 1849. I haven't found the exact dates, but found him in Ohio in 1850. He joined the Illinois 6th Cavalry and served in 1861-2 and is next found in Chicago with a wife (Effie from Ohio) and son Frank. Effie died and I lost Frank, but he married (by family stories) his housekeeper Ida Wilhelmina Siegler (from Berlin) and moved to Geneva, IL. They had several children and lived between Geneva and Wisconsin. He died in Vermillion, IL at the Soldiers and Sailors home, never fully recovering from the injuries he received in the War (we would probably blame it on Post Traumatic Stress now!)

I have not had much luck and no, I do not have an Ancestry subscription. With 2 grandchildren (young ones), my research time is limited. Gotta enjoy them while they are young. John P Brandt is my Gggrandfather, Wert's father. I have had no luck tracking down where he is buried much less where he lived. I knew my Ggrandparents fairly well since they did not pass away til I was a teenager. So, most of what I have is first hand info. I will keep trying. Thanx for the reply.

Do you have Ancestry? Have you checked the census?? Could be that you're part of the original Brandt family that came in the mid 1700's and settled in Pa. If you can get back a couple more generations, maybe our families will prove to be the same.

Kathy,

It was great to hear from you. I was born in 1945 and my name is Bill. Irene passed away many years ago of cervical cancer. She was born in 1946/47. Bunny (Helen) still lives in Ohio and she was born in 1942/43. Yes, it was quite amazing my parents could keep the chrismas tree locked in a separate room and put candies on it almost every night leading up to Christmas. It was a great tradition.

My siblings names are, oldest to yougest, are as follows:

John, Rose, Joe, Theresa, Rita, George, Alma. Gus, Fred Helen, Ed, Bill, Irene, and Jim. My parents lost a child at an early age. He was born somewhere around Rose and Joe.

I live in Massachusetts, Rita lives near you in Placerville CA.and Fred lives in Ventura. Many of my living siblings live in California and a few of them still live in Ohio.

My email address is billbrandt1945@gmail.com. It might be easier to stay in touch directly. I will also give you some email addresses of my siblings. I look forward to hearing from you.

Bill

Hello, Bill,

I am the eldest granddaughter of Francis and Irene Brandt. I could have sworn that my grandmother told me your parents had 18 children. Oh, well, it's nice to know the correct number.

Could you provide me with the correct order and names? I can't remember everyone who was at your parents' Christmas get togethers. I remember the room where the tree was located being off limits. And the candies on that tree - wonderful memories.

I think that Irene (Bunny?) was around my age. I was born in 1945.

I have been getting psychic prods to get busy on my research again now that I have finished a couple of years of school. I'd love to chat more and pick your brain for some other missing information.

I live in N. California (SF Bay area), and everytime I go near La Habra, I think about your parents.

Kathy

I wrote to the archivist at the chancery of the diocese of cincinnati where the records are looked up--yesterday. They
say on their web site it might take 6-8 weeks to get the records. Three of their children were born in Cincinnati also--I asked for the marriage and Baptismal records. The hamilton Genealogical Society's web site has an index to early marriages and it says Holy Trinity for the Morper/Brandt marriage. Probably the Baptismal records are their as well. I'll let you know when I get the records. Steve

Yes this is hopefully Charlotte/Carolina Brandt/Brand's sister. We have obtained my 3rd gr. grandparents Adam Pistner and Carolina Brandt/Brand marriage certificate and her parents were not listed. We have seen Carolina/Charlotte listed with her surname as both Brandt/Brand but we think the surname was originally Brandt. Please keep me posted with the findings of the marriage certificate of Michael Morper and Maria Anna Brandt with possible parents names. Do you know if they were married at Old St. Mary's Catholic church in Cincinnati in 1840?

Thanks,

John

These letters from the 1930s and later.

The Brandts in my line came from Germany in 1874 and I am from the Louisa Wilhelmina branch. She maried W.H.
This link may be what you are looking for as cemetery records indicate all names you have listed with the exception of Sellers. My ancestry is from this region as well. My mother was born and raised in Russell and my father from Luray.
Good luck!

http://luray.org/Cemeteries/Luray%20Cemetery.htm?fuseBox=lur...
The Jacob Brandt is the father; Mother was Johanna or Hanna Oting or Oeding. I know of the following 3 children that immigrated to America. They are: Margaretha b.1856 - d. 1936; Claus b.1856 - d.1935; George Christian b. 1858 - d. 1921. Margaretha m. Ernest Peter Lembke in 1883, George m. Frederika Pasch and Claus m. Margaretha I believe before he immigrated to America. He settled near Blair NE. and remained there. Margaretha had a little bbok that had Flensburg, Prussa written in it. My Mother said that it was used like a passport for her to leave the country when she immigrated. Do you have any of these in your research.

My great -great -great grandparents were Michael Morper & Maria Anna Brandt who were married in Cincinnati in 1840.
Both came from Bavaria. She was born in 1812. Maybe they are related. I am trying to get their marriage record to see if her parents names are on it. They moved on to Missouri about 1848. Let me know if you've found anymore info. on your Caroline. Steve
These are the right people, but I have not been able to find anything about Arma's parents. I know she had a cousin named Ray Shaffer that lived in Lebonon county in Pennsylvania in 1907, but other than that, nothing else, except she may have been an only child. I'm trying to get her birth certificate, but I'm not sure if she was born in Pa. or NY. Thank you for your help.
