Mahala Mosley Branham Descendants- Seeking DNA Participants

Mahala's brother, Nathaniel Mosley, has a descendant (straight male lineage- son, to son, to son....) who has taken part in a DNA test, BUT I would like to see someone who has a straight female line down from Nathaniel's mother, get a MTDNA test done. Have Adeline's or Mahala's descendants done this? More specifically, have any of you tried to check your MTDNA through Mahala's and Adeline's mother's side? I would love to see Mahala's or Adeline's descendants get an MTDNA test. This person would need to descended through a straight female line down from Mahala or Adeline- but I THINK males can do this, too, as long as the people between them and Mahala or Adeline are all female. For example, Mahala's (or Adeline's) daughter's daughter. Or Mahala's/Adeline's daughter's daughter's daughter. Or Mahala's/Adeline's daughter's son. Or Mahala's/Adeline's daughter's daughter's son.

Would someone here be interested in volunteering to have a cheek swab done? If not, do you know someone who would? It's my understanding this volunteer's end of things will be fairly simple and I'm sure the kit should come with instructions. As for money, I understand some of you might not want to pay for such a test. I'll be honest, I don't have the cash to pay it all, either, BUT I know a lot of people who'd be interested in these results, myself included, so I was thinking that several of us could donate 5 or 10 bucks towards this goal. The total is $99 for the cheaper test. I already have several people in mind who might be willing to donate $10 a piece and one person who has confirmed they will pay. I still need to ask the other people if they'd be willing to pay, as I merely suspect they will say yes. And we still need a couple more people to donate. What do you all think?

I would do the cheek swab on myself if I could, but I cannot since I am Nathaniel's descendant and don't have a straight female line back to his mother. If you would be willing to do the cheek swab and meet the requirments, but cannot donate any money towards the cost of the test, we could still prob. manage to get enough donations to buy it and hand the test to you. All I ask of the person who agrees to do the cheek swab is that they descend from Mahala or Adeline, have only females ancestors between them and Adeline (or Mahala), AND that they SHARE their DNA test results. My email listed here is not currently working. Please respond to this message and give me an email address where I can contact you. I will get up with you.

My father, Frank Branham, was born in Gallatin, TN, actually in Cottontown and lived on Cottontown Rd, in 1914. when he was very young. His father, Hayes Branham, married my Grandmother, Gertrude Annie Jackson, who was born and raised in Sumner County in Tennessee in the Gallatin/Cottontown area. Hayes (Haze) father was Henry B. Branham, born in KY. There are still Branhams who are related to our line living there today. I am not familiar with the names of your Branhams, but maybe this may give you a little information.

Pleas's mother is Lula Mae Branham. I believe her mother had the last name of Brown, but I am unsure of her father's name. I can ask her, then update.
Carl, I am the Co administrator of the Branam including all variations Surname DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. My husband is a genetic distance of "2" to the donor for the Gabriel Branham through his son Richard, and Benjamin Branham lines. I noticed Lona has mentioned her husband who is already in the project. If you have a donor for the David Branham line the DNA Project would be a great way to pull it all together. Also we have a great discount until the end of June. tracer4236@yahoo.com
www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspGroup=Branam&Code=V7...

52 member BRANAM SURNAME DNA Project includes BRANHAM'S

Hi Branham's

A Branam Surname DNA Project is underway. WE NOW HAVE 52 MEMBERS of various BRAN??? lines, 48 of which have received their results. To check it out GOOGLE: Branam DNA, click on the first surname link, or just click on this link:
www.familytreedna.com/public/Branam-all-Spellings/
click on the Y-Results wordtab. Wait a minute at first it looks like a blank white box. We have a donor for the Gabriel, one of the Benjamin, one of the Barnabas and several other Branham lines.

The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong family tree. The project is open to all Branam's and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen my husbands ancestors line's spelled Branham, Brandon, Bronon,Branan, Brannon and the spelling my husbands line settled on Branam.

Samples for the project must be submitted by direct line male Branams. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you would need to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin, who will provide a sample.

Always happy to answer any questions!! TTYL Diane, Volunteer Co Adminsitrator

Tarlton Branham 1789 NC>Madison Co., AL oldest sons?

In the different trees and message boards I see no mention of Tarlton's oldest sons. In 1830 he is listed with two 15-20, one-10-15, one 5-10, and two under 5. Since the sons of William Branham 1850, Jackson Co., AL are mentioned by name as cousins in Solomon's Probate papers I believe William may be one of his oldest sons. BUT am looking for proof or some type of confirmation.

ANY HELP will be appreciated!!

Hi Everyone,

I was just talking to my Mom & she was telling me that she remembers Carroll Gene Branham who lived in Oklahoma & moved to Texas. He was in woodworking in high school or some class like that & when her family went back to visit the family in Oklahoma he made her a bedside lamp.

Carroll Gene Branham is the youngest child of James M & Georganne Branham. He would have been born after 1930 since he doesn't show up on any census form prior to that.

Anyone have any ideas on how to start looking for him?

Thanks!!

Sorry for the delayed response. I've not worked on this line in a while and had to refresh my memory by reading my notes.

I've not found anything on Benjamin being a Revolutionary Patriot either and do not have names for his parents - sorry.

As for the time frame of his move to Tennessee:

- Son Tarlton married in Stokes Co., NC in 1810
- Son Richard married in Roane county, TN in 1817

Assuming both boys lived at home until they married, I would say Benjamin moved to Roane county sometime between October 1810 and July 1817.

I am a direct descendant of the above mentioned Richard. I'd love to exchange information/compare notes... you can contact me directly - jdvandermark at yahoo.com - thanks.

Jim

I grew up on Corey Ridge and my Grandparents, Jonahan and Sidney Boggs Branham lived in the homeplace. I do not remember Jonathan, as he died before my Mom was married. I remember Grandma Branham, but not very well, because she moved to Ohio when I was very young.

We are the "Branhams" that no one knows about. My Grandfather was Teddy R.Branham, son of John D.L. Branham and Anna Martin. Teddy had only been married for 6 months before he commited suicide in 1938. He and his wife had no children. What the family did not know is that my Grandmother Helen Woodson and Teddy had a son out of wed lock in 1929 (my Dad, also named Ted Branham). My G.G. Grandparents were John B. Branham and Mary Tucker. I have been able to trace my roots back to Gabriel and Anna Branham.

I have a picture of Teddy Branham in his Policemen uniform that my grandmother had. I am writing in hopes that someone may have some photo's of the Branham's. My sisters and I are planning a road trip to W.Virginia this May to see if we can find the Branham Cemetery on Tyler Mountain. I would love to be able to match faces to the names. Thank You, Paula
If you could provide me with a little more information, I would be glad to check my Branham records.

Rex Bertram
132 S.
Jennifer.... It appears to me that the last name was indeed "Braham" and not Branham. While I have found many variations of the name "Branham", those variations all seem to begin with "Bran". That said, there is a George Braham in Jackson Co., WV on the 1880 census, that seem to be a perfect match for your George. Acording to the 1900 census, your George was born in WV. His father was also born in WV.... mother born in OH. The 1880 census of Jackson Co. lists the following family:

John Braham 54 WV MD WV
Elizabeth 43 OH VT VT
Ryle (might be Kyle) 17 WV WV OH
A. ELlen 20 WV WV OH
Phebe A. 15 WV WV OH
George A. WV WV OH
James H. 7 WV WV OH
not named 1 WV WV OH

This family is found in Wood Co., WV in 1870:
John Braham 45 VA
Elizabeth 33 OH
Sarah F. 15 VA
John 13 VA
Amanda 12 VA
Acheah 10 VA
Salinda 8 VA
Uriah 7 WV
Pheobe 4 WV
Alexander 2 WV
no name 2/12 (female) WV

So..... it looks to me like George's middle name was Alexander. He must be the 2 year old Alexander on the 1870 census. There is really no question that the family in Jackson County in 1880 is the same family that is in Wood County in 1870. It should be noted that although some of the children were listed as born in VA and some in WV, the children were likely all born in what is now WV. WV was not created until 1863. So, those children born before then would have been born in VA.

The same family is also in Wood County, VA in 1860. In 1860, John is listed as 32 years old.

There is also a good match for this John on the 1850 Wood County, VA census:

James Braham 90 MD
Elizabeth 50 VA
John 21 VA
Christine 24 VA
Sarah 13 VA

Since George's father, John is found in Wood County in both 1860 and 1870, this is likely him in 1850. James was born in MD; and on the 1880 census, John states that his father was born in MD.

Good luck in your search.

Rex Bertram
132 S.
Gail, if you are still on this message board, I would love
to hear from you. I am the daughter of Mary Etta Branham
Caudill, she is a sister to Elizabeth Branham Owens. I grew
up on Corey Ridge (Now Parker Rd) very close to where Sidney
Branham Boggs's home was.
