my g.g.grandfather was thomas alton braniff. he and his wife came from northern ireland . I hear that most of the braniffs came to northern usa and some ended up in louisiana. I know that braniff airlines owner is some relation. My great grandfather was samuel porter braniff and he had a brother jack. they lived in the jackson co wv area. they have both passed and we do have alot of family. Every year we have family reunion in cedar lakes ripley wv (this year) is first sunday in sept.

Family originally from Texas and moved to Idaho.
1 daughter and 3 sons.
Know Claude moved to Ohio and eventually Pennsylvania.
Also know Claude was in Navy from 1920 to 1922.

Death of James Michael Braniff in Mexico

Braniffs on OneGreatFamily +Canadian census 1851

Hi gang

Been reading the recent activity on the Canadian Braniffs. For those that haven't checked it out yet - I've posted a copy of the 1851 transcribed census from Hinchinbrooke Quebec which shows the family of Patrick James Braniff & Elizabeth Murray.

Most of the children are listed being born in Canada - I imagine in the Quebec area of Hinchinbrooke. A few years ago I did search some microfilmed baptism records for the area & found Patrick born 1829 - I believe this to be my Patrick married to Ann Tracy & eventually settled on St Joes Island, Ontario. I seem to recall finding a note about one other birth record, but don't remember if it was Dennis or Bernard or who exactly. I'll try and find my research notes.

I'm curious who all on this board uses the website OneGreatFamily.com to try and get matches to other Braniff lines?

I also have some free space at Braniffs.ws where interested researchers can register for free and upload Braniff genealogy.

I have hit a wall with my Great Grandfather Frank Braniff.
I know he came from Ireland and that he married Mary Margaret Killen. I am told there is a cemetary there with a lot of my relatives who passed. Some left and went to Upstate New York. Guess I will have to make a trip to Lindsay, Ontario, Canada one day and do some research there.

My branch of the tree came to Canada in around 1820 then on to Iowa about 1850. They mostly settled in Oregon Washington and Montana. I have an uncle John Erancis known as (Frank) born in Iowa about 1896. You are not from the same branch of the tree dating back to Patrick James and Elizabeth as I am but probably from another branch leading to the same ancestors.

I read a post from Tom to Ed regarding Braniff lineage and the names caught my attention. My great grandfather was Frank Braniff. His daughter, my grandmother was Mary Elizabeth and her brother was James Patrick. Since the Irish have a pattern of carrying on family names I wondered if there was a connection. My grandmother was born in Lindsay, Ontarion, Canada in 1891.

I would love to share information on your Daniel and my Patrick James. I have an advantage over many cousins as my Grandfather was nearly the last of the family of Patrick James and Elisabeth. Then my father was the last child of Bernard so I dont have nearly as many generations to research as many of my cousins have. My GGrandfather was Patrick James born 1801. My Grandfather was Bernard a son of Patrick James born 1851 and my father was Robert Joesph born 1906. Three generations put me back to 1801.
I am not sure how I found Patricks middle name but I think it was from Susettes Web site. I do have a number of addresses that are from the same tree or branch of the tree as I am. We all seem to be at a standstill at 1801. If we could compare notes and prove some kinship between Danial and Patrick James it would be one more link. In my direct decendents back to my GGrandfather there are no Daniels.
Anything you would like for me to send I would be most happy to do so.

I believe that Patrick Braniff-shoemaker-age 23 listed, son? of Patrick James Braniff & Elizabeth Murray is my 3rd great grandfather, Patrick Braniff, born June 1829 in Quebec, shoemaker, died April 1906 St. Joes Island, Ontario.

I've seen several of your postings and would like to get in touch. My ancestor, Daniel Braniff, may have been related to your Patrick James. Both came to Canada about the same time.
I'd like to know where you found Patrick's middle name, James, and I'd love to have the information from your family bible.
I'd be happy to share any information I've gathered on my Daniel - and on your Patrick.

My Brannif is Mary Brannif born in Ireland possibly Portaferry Co Down ..... she is my g g grandmother on my fathers side .... she must have been born about 1820 give or take a few yrs ... she married my g g grandfather James Convery, also we think a Co.Down man but we have no idea what date. Their son, (My g.grandfather) James Convery was born c1844 and the only info we have is that he was born in Ireland. Its been almost impossible to find his birth certificate which would in turn confirm Mary and James marriage. However they are named as parents to my g.grandfather on his marriage certificate in Glasgow in 1871 tho by that time both were deceased.
I would be grateful for any info anyone has to assist me here thank you x

Hi Sharon,Patrick James Braniff was my GG Grandfather.His son,Dennis moved from Iowa to Pincher Creek, Alberta,Canada around 1900.He took his family,including three sons:Tom,John,and James(my grandfather,who was born around 1876).The four men each obtained homestead land for farming.My father,Hugh(born in 1912,still alive and healthy)came to the USA in 1927,eventually settled for a while in Hood River, Oregon,married my mother Dorothy, in 1935.I was born in 1936.During WW2 my parents worked in the Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver,Washingtom.After the war along with my younger brother,Gerald, and sister,Patricia,we moved to Klamath Falls,Oregon,where we grew up and went away to college.I have lived in the San Francisco area,since 1962,and raised three children(Shannon(Mulligan),Kristin,and Ryan, with my wife of 37 years,Sue

I am not sure if the Bernard you refer to could be some relation of my ggrandfather or not. Patrick James came from Ireland in the early 1800. They settled in Canada then on to Iowa about 1850. Ihave no record of who his father was or if he had any siblngs. If your Bernard was born about 1800 there is a posibility we are from the same family tree.

I just stumbled on your posting and Damien's reply. I am from the Balygalget Braniffs. My father was Hugh Braniff first cousin to Thomas B Braniff who was married to Terressa Convery. He died in a motor bike crash in 1961. I met him when he visited us when he was in the Royal Navy. I have quite a lot of information I can let you have. I hope you read this after all it is almost a year since you posted your request. But genealogy is a slow process!!

Looking for information on Agnes Braniff Zuver (1868-1949). Born in Clearfield County, PA abt 1868, possibly Beccaria Twnsp. (Agnes may not be her given name, but went by Agnes in later years).

Cannot locate her parents but 1880 and 1920 census indicate she is the niece of Catherine Braniff Lewis (1850-1929).

Catherine's parents (which would be Anges' Grandparents) were Philip Braniff (1811-1871) and Catherine Jordan (1813-1865).

Another interesting fact: Catherine had a nephew Harvey Ambrose Braniff (1881-1946). Agnes named one of her sons Harvey Ambrose Zuver (1892-1958).

Some information for you. In the Upper Ards (bottom of the Ards Peninsula) there are three distinct parishes, all with Braniffs! I've found no link between them but, in such a small area I think it unlikely that they're not related somewhere along the line. The three parishes are:

Ballygalget
Ballyphilip (Portaferry)
Ardkeen (Kircubbin)

Thomas was from Ballygalget and was married to Teresa Convery and they lived in Portaferry and later in Newtownards. There are still Braniffs in Ballygalget so it' s likely you have relatives there. No information on the children (may have more later) but Teresa father was Ned Convery and he worked on the lightships.

HTH - I'll let you know if I get any more information.

Mary I am sure we come from the same tree a way back but I have not been able to get back that far. My ggrandfather was born in Ireland in 1801 and migrated to Canada in the early eighteen hundreds. From there they moved to Iowa in about 1850. There is where my ggrandparents are buried. My grandparents had all of their children except my dad in Iowa. Dad was born in Pincher Creek Canada. I am real interested in finding any decendents of Bernard Harry or John Francis Braniff as they were uncles of mine.
It seems as though you are from New Orleans and in some of my searching I have ran across the Braniff name from that area. We are probably from the same ancestors but it would be from the seventeen hundreds or before.

Gerald, I don't believe your Bernard is my Bernard. Death certificate of my Bernard lists his parents as John and Mary Braniff. All appeared to be born in Pennsylvania. Brothers of my Bernard appear to be William bc1820; Thomas bc1825; Peter bc1831; Only Thomas is positive and William and Peter are not proven but they were always near or with Bernard and Thomas during their movements around Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Reed's parents were Patrick Reed and Ellen Clifford and Elizabeth may have been born in New York.

Hi Gerald,

My 77 year old mother has been tracing her genealogy for quite a few years now with not much luck. She thinks that her Braniff's might have been in Portaferry before Belfast.

A few years back I had used Ulster Historical Society to trace what I could. I provided them with all the info that I had and they seemed to send the same info back with a few bells and whistles. Not much I didn't already know.

Would you look it over and let me know if you think any of your Braniffs might be connected to ours.

I am not familiar with the Braniff name but my grandfather Edward Fowler was brought up by Daniel McCashin and was married from his home in Cleator Moor in 1877. I'm trying to locate the birth place and date of Mary Braniff. Her parents were William Braniff and Rachel (formerly Dixon). They were born in Ireland and Mary was born somewhere in England. Mary's birth date is around 2 February 1892. She was baptised at the St Patrick's Church in Maryport, Cumberland on 28 February 1982. She had 3 brothers Jim, Joe and John and 2 sisters Sally and Gladys. I think the family moved to Boksburg in South Africa early 1900's. If anyone knows anything about Mary I would appreciate hearing from you.

Bernard Braniff was a son qf Patrick James Braniff. He was married to Susan Brenton in 1874. They had ten children starting in 1875 and going until 1906. Ihave a record taken from the family Bible.

I was researching a Hugh Braniff who moved to Cleator Moor. The following is from the records of the church in Cleator Moor (Cumbria) in England and may provide some additional background information for you (you may already have it).

James and Mary Jane (nee McCasson) Braniff (I think the McCasson/Mcashion is a transcribing error, one way or the other!)

Jim,
In the Upper Ards there are, as far as I know, three different sets of Braniffs in the three adjoining parishes of Ballyphilip (Portaferry), Ballygalget and Ardkeen. These may well be (probably are) related if you go far enough back. While my own interest isn't directly related to Portaferry I included some information in research posted on the Braniff website.

Some of you know me, I created & maintain the Braniff Resource Centre www.braniffs.ws

I would like to ask for input on a project I'm considering. The website has a database created from GEDCOMs I've collected. The web pages are nothing fancy, just text. Well, I recently found this software called Familia. It let's me attach photos to people in the database and publish the photos as part of the web pages.

What I would like to know is:
-would you like to have pages with the photos? and
-would you send photos (by email or even by mail) for submission to the pages?
**Any kind of images of sources like census pages, passenger lists, etc. can also be attached**

If no one is interested in submitting photos, then I won't start the project.

I'd appreciate any comments.
