Josephine May Foster Brannam

Josephine May Foster Brannam, 85, of Liberty, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.
She was born March 30, 1923 in Byrdstown, Tennessee to Albert and Ethel Cross Foster. She moved with her family to the Richmond area as a teenager. Josephine worked many jobs, but her true calling was as an accomplished seamstress. Most recently she held the position of supervisor of interiors at Bev's Threads in Richmond. She was a very creative woman. She was a published poet who also loved to draw and could play several string instruments including mandolin, guitar, violin, and autoharp. Josephine loved nature and had a broad knowledge of the medicinal properties of many plants. She had "a green thumb".
She would collect plants while traveling, bring them home, and plant them in her yard. Everything seemed to flourish in her care. She was known for growing a vegetable garden and canning every year, but especially for her most remarkable rhubarb patch. Family was the center of her life, and she was the center of her family. Family dinners were always at Grandma Jo's house.
She took great pride in her family and was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include her daughter: Judith Brannam Sharp of Cincinnati, OH; sister: Vivian Weimer of Greenfield, Indiana; daughter-in-law: Catherine Brannam of Liberty; six grandchildren: Dana Risch and her husband Damian of Brownsville, Geoffrey Patterson of Brownsville, Amanda Patterson of Oxford, OH; Bill Brannam and his wife Jessica of Carmel, Indiana; Clinton Brannam and Clayton Brannam, of Liberty; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and good family friend: Lowell Burwell of Liberty.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter: Faye Brannam Payne; a son: Robert M. Brannam; two brothers: Allen Foster and Shirley Foster; two sisters: Beatrice Shannon and Alberta Gilliam; and her beloved dog: Amy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Elder Lowell Burwell and Bishop Dan Parker of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Connersville officiating. Faye Payne, 59, of Liberty died Monday morning, August 27, 2007, at the Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville. She was born in Richmond on April 24, 1948 to Alex and Josephine Foster Brannam.

A life-long resident of Union County, she graduated from Short High School in 1967. During the next few years she became active with the Historical Society, and the Miami Valley Re-enactors, participating in Union County’s Founders Day by dressing in historical costumes and giving live demonstrations of making butter. Faye was a strong supporter of the 4 C’s Food and Clothing Bank of Union County, and spent much of her time volunteering there. Her leisure time was filled with collecting bunny rabbits, sewing historical costumes, working in her gardens, and spending time with family. She is remembered for making wonderful homemade strawberry shortcake for her family and friends, using fruit she grew herself. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Connersville and was employed at Woodruff’s Supermarket for over 20 years, and had also worked at Energy Plus.
Genealogy VS Genetic's

"Genealogy via Genetics"
I would like to encourage as many people as possible to participate in the DNA Surname Projects. If you are a male, you can get a very simple, non-invasive cheek swab test performed by yourself in your home to identify the genetic data being carried on your Y-chromosome. If you are female and tracing your husband's or your father's line, please encourage a member of the oldest male generation of that line who is still living to participate in this study.

A primary benefit of this information, per my view, allows a researcher to match with someone with whom this connection has not yet been documented. Sometimes if we know where we are headed, it is easier to get there by taking some documented data from the past which is provided by your DNA match and following one of this person's documented male lines only needing to work out the gap. That is, if you match with another male person who has his male line documented for 7 or 8 generations and you have your male line documented for 4 generations, then it is likely that you share a grandfather within one of the generations documented by your match. With other genealogical research methods, it should be much easier to develop your documentation to complete the connection with the person of your DNA match.

Quoted from a "King" family page.
Hi Melinda! It's Auntie Peggy. 'Dad was born in Jefferson City, MO. His father's name was Louis Edward Brannam. His mother's name was Amanda or Miranda Elizabeth Corneilson. He had a brother named Elmer, a sister named Lil Hood, married to Paul Hood. He had another sister named Claire, married to Earl Atherton, and they lived near Joplin, MO. He also had a sister named Mary, married to Jird Gideon. They lived in a town of Oakley, CA. Dad's mom remarried a man named Teague, and they lived in Joplin, MO. He raised dad, but I don't know if he adopted him. If I think of anything else, I'll let you kow. I looked at the latter day saints geneology site, and Brannam is linked to the name Jernigan. That's about all I can think of right now. Come see us in Montana. It's beautiful. Love you.
Auntie Peggy

Rosanna (Rosannah) Brannam

Looking for info about my father's natural mother. He was the issue of her marriage to William Robert Bowles (Boles) in 1897. My father was named Benjamin Franklin, and listed his mother's name on his WWI enlistment papers an Rosanna Brannam. The spelling could actully have been a little different. Rosannah remarried a Brannam and they had several children. If anyone has a woman with a similiar name, I'd be very appreciative. The 1890 census listed them in Norton Virginia, but I know they moved to several different locations. Thanks.

John Brannum,b- cir.1660

I'm searching for John Brannum and family. His son "Caron" is found in the Colony of Virginia in 1699 being indentured to a George Davenport, as "Charon Brenham".The court records of North Farnham Parish attest to his age as 12 yo. The son is also found on a passenger list as "Charon Branon". In later church records he is found as "Caron Brannon".
As yet we are unable to locate any family. Caron used the traditional naming process to name his children. The first born son being named John, after the fathers father.
At the age of 12 you would expect him to be in the company of adults for passage
, but none are found. The inconsistant spelling of the surname causes much confusion also.
If you have any information of a John Brannum in the mid to late 1600's, or if you have information on resources for this era to research, please contact me Thanks
