Re: James W. Truman

Some records in Rootsweb say that Lorenzo Dow Brannon married Anna Truman and Keziah Barnhouse on the same day. The same records say that James Truman's father died shortly after James was born and Lorenzo Dow Brannon adopted him after he married Anna (aka Keziah).

It looks like Keziah Barnhouse and Anna Truman are the same person. There are many different names listed for Keziah so it is possible.

The John & Rebecca BRANNAN Graveyard, Berkeley Co., WV

I need some assistance. I'm a descendant of TJ Brannan born 1830, TN. The only source I have to connect him to his father, Moses, is a 1850 IN census...and some books.

The only source I have to connect Moses to HIS father, William, is an 1820 census in IN...with William living near him....and some books. Someone else said he was in TN in 1820, but I think that's another William Brannon.

Then I need a source to connect William to HIS father, John b. 1745 d. 1804.

Any information on their wives and children would also be helpful.

I would like to get the John Brannan graveyard fenced off and marked by DAR. They want so much proof! They said they can't go by old sources...or word of mouth...not sufficient enough. I said, "Well, even if I can't prove my lineage, I think there's 3 Rev. Patriots in there (John Brannan, James Barr, and James Gano) and 2 from the War of 1812 (Isaac and Levi), so...wouldn't you want to fence it off anyway?" They sent me to a historian that gave me tons of red tape to fill out...including permission. Even though it has been deeded to 3 people in 1944 (Ellwood DeHaven, Jess Dunham, and William Brannan)...I believe these men have passed away, and attempts to contact relatives have turned up nothing. This is not a problem...the owner is very nice and would help. The fence that was there is nothing but old stumps in the 4 corners...and now cows roam around it!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated! I live in Reston, VA and would like to get this done before I move from the area. If you would like to help or contribute to the cost of the chain link fence, 2 gates, and historical markers, please contact me.

Thank you,
Anna Jones
annaj703@hotmail.com
daughter of Tom Johnson
son of Ray Johnson
son of Anna Belle McNall
daughter of Julie Brannan
daughter of Thomas Jefferson Brannan
son of Moses Brannan
son of William Brannan
son of John and Rebecca Brannan

To see BRANNAN'S alread represented in the Branam Surname DNA Project

Hi Brannan's

A Branam Surname DNA Project is underway. WE NOW HAVE 52 MEMBERS of various BRAN??? lines, 48 of which have received their results. To check it out GOOGLE: Branam DNA, click on the first surname link, or just click on this link:
www.familytreedna.com/public/Branam-all-Spellings/
CLICK ON the Y-Results WORDTAB. Wait a minute at first it looks like a blank white box. We have a donor for the Caron, Gabriel,Anderson and several other Brannan/Brannon/Brannen lines. We also have UK and Australian donors.

The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong family tree. The project is open to all Branam's and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen my husbands ancestors line's spelled Branham, Brandon, Bronon,Branan, Brannon and the spelling my husbands line settled on Branam.

Samples for the project must be submitted by direct line male Branams. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you would need to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin, who will provide a sample.

Always happy to answer any questions!!
Patrick Rodrick and Margaret Brannan

Looking for any information on a Patrick Rodrick and a Margaret Wampler Brannon. I believe these to be my g-g-grandparents. I stumbled upon the names when I did a Dogpile search for my grandfather's first cousin, Aaron Carol "Oran" Drake. Aaron's mother was listed as Ida Lou Brannon/Brannan, and her parents were listed as Patrick Rodrick and Margaret, and as Ida Lou was my g-grandfather's sister, I put two and two together. There would have been three children-William R, my grandfather, Ida Lou (Drake), and Sarah (Chapman).

My g-grandfather's middle name was said to have been Rodrick, though it was mistakenly written as 'Robert'. The spelling of the last name was also inadvertently written as 'Brannan' often times, and seems to have stuck in my family.

My mother says the family came from the Abilene, TX area. My g-grandfather was born in Weatherford, Parker, TX and Ida was born in Wise Co. Sarah's birth place is said to be KS, but seeing as how the family lived in and around West TX I imagine it was TX.

I have found no censuses with my g-grandfather and his siblings with their parents, so I am gathering the parents either died early or the children left home due to their early marriages.

Just to help things along:

William Rodrick/Robert Brannon/Brannan m. Callie Irene Westbrook

Sarah Brannon/Brannan m. Harvey Carroll Chapman

Ida Lou Brannon/Brannan m. Howard Aaron Drake

West TX and NM is where the family settled, though the Drakes moved out to CA. I know there are a lot of Brannons in West TX, but thus far I haven't been able to sort through them all.

I am searching for information on the family of Jessie Brannan from Calhoun Co., MS.

1910 Calhoun Co., census shows:
Jessie Brannan head age 25 m 6 yrs MS-MS-MS
Clementine Brannan wife age 23 m 6 yrs 3-3 children MS-MS-MS
Gladys Brannan dau age 5 MS-MS-MS
Verline(or Earline) dau age 2 MS-MS-MS
Pauline dau age 9/12 MS-MS-MS

1920 the family with the same children are living in Panola Co., MS.

In 1930 in Quitman Co., I have an Albert M. Ruth age 27 with wife, Emma P. age 20 and son Albert M. Ruth age 2 9/12.

Albert Ruth married Pauline Brannan married 8/8/1926 in Quitman Co., MS.

I strongly suspect that the Pauline Brannan who married Albert is Emma P. from the 1930 census. I suspect that she is the daughter of Jessie Brannan and Clementine but would like some confirmation of this. From what I know Albert married secondly on 3/19/1938 to Lucille Davis and it is my understanding that Emma also remarried someone named Phillips but have no other details on this.

Does anyone know have any information on this family? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ellen McClusky Brannan, died in 1896, Kendal, Lafayette County, Wisconsin

Any information about her (and the McClusky family of Lafayette County) would be appreciated. In particular, I'm hoping to learn which town in Ireland they came from.

Ellen was married to James McGuire. (They had two daughters, Ellen and Bridget.) Peter Brannan was her second husband.

On her Wisconsin death record, the name is spelled Brennan. In some records, it's spelled Branan. McClusky is spelled many ways in the various records.

Thanks for any help!

Ok, let me do some checking on this and see what I can find out. Do you have a subscription to Ancestry? I live in WV and we have a great genealogy section in our library so I might be able to find something out there also when I get time. I will get back to you. If you want, you can email me personally at egirl82000@yahoo.com Gina

Does Anyone know these WV Brannons?

After finding a US Fed. Mortality Cen. Record for a Nancy Brannan b. 1750 d. 1850 Gilmer Co. WV, I did some researching census records and found this...in the 1830 Lewis Co. census record there is a Thos. H Brannan listed-age 70-80 and a wife listed 70-80...this would make this couple b. 1750-1760. We have another Thomas H Brannan in the county but he wasn't b. until 1802. This couple would be older than the couple (William Wrighter and Mary Payne Brannon) we thought were probably the oldest. This Thomas H is living next to some of my other Beall and Brannon relatives so I am sure he is related. I assume this Nancy was probably his wife. If anyone has any idea, I would appeciate it. Thank you
What's it about read below!
A Branam/Bran???has Brannan/Brannon/Brannen/Brennan lines covered in one Surname DNA Project. The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong tree. The project is open to all Branhams and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen William Branham 1850 Jackson Co., AL listed as Wm.Brandon 1860, William Bronon 1870 still in Jackson Co., AL, His sons and grand sons Branham, and Branam in 1900, then Brannon in the 1920 Federal Census. Brannon. We have a donor for the Gabriel Branham line, Caron Brenham/Brannon, and Benjamin Branham lines as long with others. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you need to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin, who will provide a sample. For more information go to www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp once there click on the B and go down to Branam. Click on Branam. Click on Website link, then and on the word buttons. Family Tree DNA provides the kit, the University of AZ does the testing.. I receive no financial gain from this project. If you do decide to join be sure to join through a surname project for a discount. Thank You, ~Diane

Brannan's of MS/AL/MS and possibly end in Texas???? Caleb & James C.

My ggggrandfather is Dixon(Dixie) C. Brannan. He was born in Calhoun County, MS and went back and forth between MS and AL during his childhood. On his deathe certificate it states that Caleb is his father and his mother is Fannie Unknown, butI don't know how accurate that is. I found a censes that stated James C. was his father, but Virginia Maxey is way tooo young to be his mother. I know James has a brother named Caleb, but I can't find him married when Dixie was born or Dixie living with him. I am lead to believe that I'm on the right track since Stephen Dixon Brannan would be his grandfather and you can see the link with the names. Does anyone have any information?

My great-grandfather was Thomas Brannon. He lived in Paw Paw, WV, near Cumberland, MD. He died in 1955 in Pittsburgh, PA. His children, Will, Homer, Amelia, Edna (my grandmother), and Hilda are all deceased. Either Will or Homer was from his first marriage. His second wife, Sophronia Ann died when my grandmother was 9, so that was around 1917.

My great-aunt Nell (Amelia Brannon-Sisk) said that we were Scots-Irish. She, my great-aunt Hilda, and my grandmother Edna were first cousins of Molly Peters (married name) of Paw Paw, WV, although I think the relationship may have been on her mother's side, and I don't know the mother's maiden name. Molly's sister was named Edith, also of Paw Paw, and were their neighbors. I believe my great-grandfather Thomas had also lived in Cumberland, MD, at one point. I understood that he was born in the U.S. but I don't know how far back the family went in this country. They were farmers. They spoke of relatives in Berkeley Springs, including one named Myrtle. My Aunt Lillian, by marriage, may know more, as we used to visit the Paw Paw relatives every summer when I was young. Unfortunately, there is no one else left to ask, unless Mollie's children know anything. They lived in WV the last I knew of. Of Molly's 5 children, I don't believe Arlene Peters ever married, but Wallace Peters, Marlene and Darlene (twins), and Susan did. Edith, also the first cousin of my grandmother Edna Brannon Musolino, had two sons, one of whom I know died. I was a child and in my early teens and Molly's and Edith's children were likely all in their twenties. I am now 56. However, as stated, these may all have been her mother's family, which I can find out from my Aunt Lillian.
