Does your Brannon line have a LIVING Direct Line male?

What's it about read below!
A Branam/Bran???has Brannon/Brannan/Brannen/Brennan lines covered in one Surname DNA Project. The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong tree. The project is open to all Branhams and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen William Branham 1850 Jackson Co., AL listed as Wm.Brandon 1860, William Bronon 1870 still in Jackson Co., AL, His sons and grand sons Branham, and Branam in 1900, then Brannon in the 1920 Federal Census. Brannon. We have a donor for the Gabriel Branham line, Caron Brenham/Brannon, and Benjamin Branham lines as long with others. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you need to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin, who will provide a sample. For more information go to www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp once there click on the B and go down to Branam. Click on Branam. Click on Website link, then and on the word buttons. Family Tree DNA provides the kit, the University of AZ does the testing.. I receive no financial gain from this project. If you do decide to join be sure to join through a surname project for a discount. Thank You, ~Diane

Brannon info wanted-Palo Pinto, Abilene? TX

I am at a rock and a hard place on this family. Who were William Robert and Ida's parents? Here's what I know:

A Brannon and his wife had two known children: Ida Lou Brannon (info taken from her husband's data collection record), b. 19 Jun 1893 in TX, d. unknown, and William Robert (or Roderick?) Brannan, b. 6 Aug 1887 in Weatherford, Parker TX (according to WWI draft reg card), d. 1 Sept 1953 (according to my mother, who was born the same day). This family *may* have come from the Abilene, Taylor, TX area but I am not certain. They spent many years in the Palo Pinto co, TX area.

William R Brannan (name began to be spelled with an an) married Callie Irene Westbrook, b. 11 Mar 1892 in Bridgeport, Wise, TX, d. 16 Oct 1964 in Odessa, Ector, TX. William often signed his name as 'W R Brannan'. He worked for Strawn Coal Co in Lyra, Palo Pinto, TX around 1917 and had three children: Lois Lorraine (1909-1986), William H (1911-1972) and Eddie Glen (1930-2001). Eddie Glen was my grandfather and the only one of the three to have a child.

Ida Lou Brannon m. Howard Aaron Drake (1894-1966) and had at least three children: Marile (1914-?), Alan (1915-?) and Oran (1918-1993). The family lived first in Palo Pinto co, TX, later the Carlsbad, NM area and finally Fresno, CA area later in life. There was also a Norma Jean who could have been a daughter or granddaughter that lived with the Drakes. Oran was a WWII vet and survivor of the Bataan Death March.

My question is this: does anyone have an inkling who the parents were of William and Ida?

Does Anyone know these WV Brannons?

After finding a US Fed. Mortality Cen. Record for a Nancy Brannan b. 1750 d. 1850 Gilmer Co. WV, I did some researching census records and found this...in the 1830 Lewis Co. census record there is a Thos. H Brannan listed-age 70-80 and a wife listed 70-80...this would make this couple b. 1750-1760. We have another Thomas H Brannan in the county but he wasn't b. until 1802. This couple would be older than the couple (William Wrighter and Mary Payne Brannon) we thought were probably the oldest. This Thomas H is living next to some of my other Beall and Brannon relatives so I am sure he is related. I assume this Nancy was probably his wife. If anyone has any idea, I would appeciate it. Thank you

No information about ancestry of John Brannon... may have come from County Sligo, Ireland. He married Bridget Cusick... her family came from County Clare, Ireland and settled in Boston. Not known if Brannon and Cusick met and married in Boston or in Wisconsin - but they settled in the Montrose Township area of Wisconsin. They had 4 children: John, Jim, Kate, Delia. Delia married Patrick Lyons who came at 16 from County Leitrum, Ireland (son of Jackson Lyons and Mary Rowley Flynn Lyons.

I would like to find out more information about John Brannon, about the Cusick family and the Jackson Lyons line.

Surname DNA Project we now have 36 members, some results pending

A Branam/Brannon Surname DNA Project is underway. The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong tree. The project is open to all BRANNONs and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen William Branham 1850 Jackson Co., AL listed as Wm.Brandon 1860, William Bronon 1870 still in Jackson Co., AL, His sons and grand sons Branham, and Branam in 1900, then BRANNON in the 1920 Federal Census.

I am searching for the parents of Tululah M Brannon. She was born in Alabama about 1868. She married Nicholas Osland Vaden and in the 1900 census is listed as "Tula Vaden" (Nicholas is referred to as "Nix" in this census). They were living in Grayson, Tx. In the 1910 census she is listed as "Yula M. Vaden". At this time they were living in Bryan, Oklahoma. I have six children listed for them: Maude, Lora, Pauline (Polly), Rina, Jewell and Carl Cecil. Any information about Tululah's parents would be welcome.

WV Brannon's NOT Descended from Caron Brannon

A Brannon descendant of the Brannon lines from the Calhoun/Gilmer/Roane Counties of WV had the Brannon DNA test done, and the results came back negative as his being a descendant of Caron Brannon. His line goes back to William A Brannon Sr. (aka William Wrighter although we do not use this name) b. 1760 MD. According to an obituary that he has from a Brannon descendant (d. 1951), this line immigrated to here from Ireland in the late 1700's (although I think possibly the mid 1700's)and after residing at Mt. Vernon VA (and many in this line were born in the DC/Alexandria/MD area in the very early 1800's) a short while headed west settling in the Little Kanawha River valley. Just wanted those who think these lines descend from Caron to know we do not. Gina

Am trying to establish any links to the wider Brannon community through my GGGgrandfather Thomas Brannon. He moved to London, England about 1800. His son, also Thomas, is recorded as having been born in Shoreditch, London, England in 1832 where he married Sarah Steel in 1847. Family tradition says that the family came from Ireland as might be expected. My branch of the Brannon family have continued to live in London since this time.

Here is what I know to be true now. John G Brannon m. Nancy Beall d. of John and Elizabeth Richards Beall (not Nancy Hannah Helmick). Marriage record in Lewis Co. lists him as a Jr. which means his father was a John G Brannon Sr., but which one, I don't know. Have read other's trees and they list William Wrighter Brannon as having a brother named John G Brannon that didn't come to WV but can find no proof it is his son. I have a theory due to a book written called Deweese's Recollections and Experiences of a Lifetime that John G is very possibly Thomas Brannan's son but that is just what it is, a theory. As I continue to research I will keep you posted.

John G Brannon b. 1800 VA/now WV possibly Michael O'Brennen's, Ire., son

As I have been researching the Brannon line in our extensive genealogy library, I ran onto this book on Gilmer Co. WV. It was written a long time ago, but I cannot find where and if I wrote the year down in my mess of notes. The contributor of this particular article was a Margaret Brannon Smith. In it is a few biographies on some of the Gilmer Co. Brannon/Brannans. There is one on John G Brannon b. 1800 m. Nancy Beall (many people have her as a Helmick, but she was a Beall). It says his father was a Michael O'Brennen, Ireland, and his mother was ? Richardson, England. It says he came to Georgetown, then moved to eastern part of WV then VA. Also, in my Beall Family History book, John G Brannon's father is listed as John G Brannon of Ireland and had come to America about 1800. I know the names don't match up but do you suppose it is possible he isn't even William Wrighter's son? I just found this and will be returning to the library tomorrow to check out more on this info. If anyone has already went this path then please let me know if it is a waste of time. Thanks, Gina

Brannon

A Brannon/Branam Surname DNA Project is underway. The DNA test can be used to prove the existence or the absence of a common ancestor. It will not prove who the common ancestor is, that is still up to you, but it can save a lot of barking up the wrong tree. The project is open to all Brannons and variant spellings from anywhere in the world. I have seen one member of Brannon line's name spelled Branham in the 1850, Brandon 1860, Bronon 1870, Branham, and Branam in 1900, then Brannon in the 1920 Federal Census. Samples for the project must be submitted by direct line male Brannons. The test is based on the Y-Chromosome which only males have. Ladies you need to find a brother, father, uncle, or cousin, who will provide a sample. For more information go to www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp once there click on the B and go down to Branam. Click on Branam. Click on Website link, then and of the word buttons. Family Tree DNA provides the kit, the University of AZ does the testing.. I receive no financial gain from this project. If you do decide to join be sure to join through a surname project for a discount. Thank You, ~Diane Branam
Am seeking info on Jesse Brannan b. app. 1775 poss. MD. Father of Samuel Michael Brannan/Brannon b. 1800 in DC and moved to Gilmer Co VA/now WV. Believe Jesse's father to be Thomas Brannan/Brannon possibly one of the first settlers in Calhoun/Gilmer Co area of three bros. the other two being William Wrighter and Hannibal. Need to know if Jesse had a son named John b. 1817 Kanawha Co. m. Hannah Helmick(?)b. 1820 Lewis Co. by possibly a first wife before he married Mary Henley Wilson in 1822 Lewis Co. Not many records and those that do exist are conflicting. Anyone with info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Gina

Genealogy VS Genetic's

"Genealogy via Genetics"
I would like to encourage as many people as possible to participate in the DNA Surname Projects. If you are a male, you can get a very simple, non-invasive cheek swab test performed by yourself in your home to identify the genetic data being carried on your Y-chromosome. If you are female and tracing your husband's or your father's line, please encourage a member of the oldest male generation of that line who is still living to participate in this study.

A primary benefit of this information, per my view, allows a researcher to match with someone with whom this connection has not yet been documented. Sometimes if we know where we are headed, it is easier to get there by taking some documented data from the past which is provided by your DNA match and following one of this person's documented male lines only needing to work out the gap. That is, if you match with another male person who has his male line documented for 7 or 8 generations and you have your male line documented for 4 generations, then it is likely that you share a grandfather within one of the generations documented by your match. With other genealogical research methods, it should be much easier to develop your documentation to complete the connection with the person of your DNA match.

Quoted from a "King" family page
Dear Karen,
I hope you still look at this at times, as the post you made was back in 2002. I would be very much interested in talking to you about your John and Hannah. My grandmother was Annie (Anna) Brannon b. 1897 Calhoun Co WV. Her parents were Charles F and Marietta Lynch Laughlin Brannon. I believe Charley's parents to be John and Hannah Brannon as there is a marriage record in Calhoun listing his parents as John and Hanner. This line is messed up for me and was hoping you might shed some light for me if possible, since in your post you mention having info back to a John and Hannah. You may email me at egirl82000@yahoo.com if you would like. I would truly appreciate any help you could give. Sincerely, Gina

Wiley Brannon - early 1800s? SC? NC? GA?

My great great grandfather was Joseph Lindsey Brannon, born 08/22/1809, in SC. On 09/18/1834 in Lumpkin Co, GA, he married Darcus (Dorcus?) R. Withrow, born 06/18/1818, in NC. Their son, Wiley Lewis Brannon, was born 03/11/1839, in MS.

Now, there seems to be another Wiley Brannon who I think might be Joseph's brother. He was old enough to vote in 1822. He's listed on the Morgan County, GA 1822 Tax Digest Index, here: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/morgan/taxlists/1822...

Does anybody know anything about this older Wiley? I'm hoping that he may be related to Joseph Lindsey Brannon and might lead to learning more about Joseph's origins.

Thank you,
- Dorsey

Brannon, Elizabeth - North Carolina to Georgia

I am hoping to find out who the parents are of Elizabeth Brannon. Here is all the information I have on her:

1. Elizabeth BRANNON married Ira H. MADDUX in Butts County, GA on 12/20/1827.

2. They move to Heard County, GA around 1840 and live there until 1880. There is no record of her or Ira after 1880 (I have even been to Heard County hoping to find a grave).

3. She consistently states that she was born in NC throughout the census. And, she seems to have been born about 1800.

4. In the 1880 census, she is noted living near an Alfred BRANNON. He served in the civil war and was about the age of her sons. He later moved to Cullman Alabama with/near one of Elizbeth's sons (James MADDUX).

I would appreciate any information - maybe there is a BRANNON family missing an Elizabeth? I have had some reports that she is possibly the daughter of Leroy BRANNON, but this has proven not to be the case. I was hoping the relative, Alfred noted above, might help provide a clue. Thank you!
There were sisters by the name of Clara Louiza McGahan and Elizabeth Delilah MacGahan Brannon (married name). Does anyone have any info. Clara was born 1880 in Iowa, and I don't know about Elizabeth, but assume she was also born in Iowa. Elizabeth is my Gr.Grandmother and I have no info on her, other than before she became a Puckett, her maiden name was McGahan(or MacGahan), her first marriage was to a Brannon, and then she married her sister's husband (Puckett) and they had 5 children. Any info on them?? Please reply. Thanks

A descendant of CARON BRANNON/BRENHAM/BRANHAM whose documentation was satisfactory to the DAR results are in!! His line is a genetic distance of "1" for 37 markers to JOHN WILLIAM BRANNAN 1822 Johnson Co.,NC. and a genetic distance of "3" to WILLIAM BRANTLY BRANNON 1814 SC,>GA>FL. All of whom matched at 12 markers with a genetic distance of "0" demonstrating the importance of those last 12 markers. JOSEPH BRANAM 1762 NC-1857 Putnam Co., GA whose descendants include Kinian and Wiley Culver, is a perfect match to Caron Brannon and William Brantly Brannon for the 12 markers they have completed. ~Diane

Brannon/Branam Surname DNA Project

Alfred F. Brannon - Georgia and Alabama

I am seeking information about Alfred F. BRANNON (BRANAN). He lived in Heard County, GA in 1880. He lived near Ira H. & Elizabeth MADDUX (Elizabeth's maiden name is Brannon).

He later moved to Cullman County, AL. I was hoping to find out who his parents/family are. I believe he was related in some way to Elizabeth BRANNON and that could help me find out who her parents are.

Alfred served in the Civil War, I found his pension application letters on the GA State Archives web site.

I hope someone knows who his parents are! THANK YOU!

My great grandmother was Columbia Porter
Brannon, she was born abt 1865 and possibly
in MO. She married 3 times 1)Jefferson
Harris in Franklin Co., AR on January 17,
1882=5 children 2)Chesterfield M. Carney in
Crawford Co. AR on June 12, 1892=1 child and
3)George W. Archer in Crawford Co, AR on
September 11, 1898=1 child. She died in
Sapulpa, Creek Co. OK on August 23, 1924.
This is all I know of her. I have found her
name spelled Brunham/Branham/Brannon. If
anyone can give me some clues on this elusive
ancestors parentage I would be most
appreciative.

Died in Passaic County, New Jersey in the late 1950's or early 1960's. Married Mary Rudy of Schuylkill County, PA. They had six children. Thomas had at least one brother that I am aware of by the name of Bill Brennan (note different spelling). I also found the name Fred Brennon (again, different spelling) among my mother's possesions but am unsure of the relationship to Thomas. Any information would be appreciated.

Catherine/Katherine Brannon/Brannan

Searching for any info on my ggrandmother. She was born in Pennsylvania, approximately late 1870's-late 1880's. She married my ggrandfather John Riley Cartwright, who was born in Arkansas in about 1885, and died in Texas in about 1941. They had 3 children, my grandfather, John Joseph Cartwright born in 1912 in Texas, Wilburn Cartwright born 1919 in Oklahoma and Adelaide Cartwright born in 1923 in Oklahoma.
Catherine/Katherine died in about 1929 of a burst appendix, either in Oklahoma or Texas.
There's a possibility that Catherine/Katherine's last name could also be Branigan/Brannigan.
