Markus,

I'd be interested in sharing information with you. I am also descended from Adam Brandstetter. Your ancestor, Mathias Brandstetter's sister, Maria Magdalena Brandstetter is my 5x-great-grandmother. She married Antonius Litch. I do see Lionhard and Christian Brandstetter in my records but I don't see the details you have listed, such as being a relation to Grimmelhausen.

Could I interest you in exchanging information with me? My information comes from the Renchen church books.

You can see some of the church book scans at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~matthewkmi...

You'll find my contact information on this page:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~matthewkmi...

Thank you!

Matt Miller

The book The Branstetters of Wright County Missouri is out of print.
However I can produce a booklet on the ancesters of most descendants of the early Brandstetters-Branstetters-Brunstetters. It would be about 20-30 pages of the direct ancestors and their siblings with something about many of them. Also, it would include an overview of the ancestry of most early family settlements across the country.
It would be bound in nice soft binding.

This makes it all worth it! I am thrilled that this information means something to you. In my spare time (which is very little) I attempt to find these people who were in the mental hospital in Louisville/Anchorage and buried on the grounds. As it appears there were no records kept (or they are long gone), most people don't know there are even people buried there. My heart breaks for people who spent big chunks of their living years in a mental hospital but were not mentally ill and had diseases that are treatable today in 2011.

This is my family, Her sister is my great great Grandmother, making her my great great Aunt.
From what my mother says my great great grandmother was very mean. It is a shame she was not brought back to the family cemetery. Back in that era though, they thought epilepsy was a mental problem and mental problems were horrible things to them because they did not understand them.

My mother has epilepsy and this is the branch of the family that it came down from. My great aunt also had epilepsy. Thank you for Sharing though. I had no idea until I read this and asked my mother. She really didn't know why she was in there until this.

Thank you!!!

Amanda

Branstetter in Metcalfe Co. KY

This is NOT my family. I have no further information. Just want to share what I found while doing a research project.

Mahala Ann Branstetter b. about 1882 and d. 1926 in Jefferson Co. KY (city is Lakeland or Anchorage). She was from Metcalfe Co. KY but apparently got sent to Central State Hospital ("insane asylum") in Jefferson Co. KY around age 29 in 1911, probably due to epilepsy (based on her death certificate). She is on the 1900 and 1910 Metcalfe Co. KY census records with parents Christopher Branstetter and Ann Branstetter or Ann Clayton Branstetter. Siblings were Iva/Ivy, Raymond, Vivian Branstetter.

It appears when Mahala Branstetter died in 1926, she was buried on the mental hospital grounds in the cemetery (just listed as "Lakeland, KY"). This cemetery became lost and overgrown in the woods and records apparently were not kept. I am not certain why her family did not get her and bury her in her home area or with them, like patients with surviving families generally did.

Hope this helps someone. She is on the 1910 census records of Jefferson Co. KY at the hospital.

I have some Brandstatter ancestors in my family, and it may also be spelled Brandstetter, but my grandmother spelled it with an "a". My dad's mother was Mary (or Maria) B., and came from Wels (or thereabouts)- "Oberosterreich".
She came to America on 25 Jul 1921, but her family and siblings stayed behind. She had 2 brothers, Johann & Josef, and each had 1 child (I believe). Johann had a daughter named Brigitta who married an American soldier (Shaw) and moved to the midwest USA where they had 2 sons. She is still alive today, probably around 80. Josef had a son Bruno who became a doctor (or similar) in Vienna. I did find a record for Josef Brandstetter with dates 1905-1989, which would be the ballpark, IF it's the same person.
Please let me know if any of this fits your family. Mary was the only one that came to America, so it would have to be earlier connections from Austria.

Johannes Friedrich Brandstetter and Magdelene Coalheaven/Copenhaver ca 1799

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out my Copenhaver line and hope someone has the missing piece of the puzzle. I descend from Johannes Friedrich Branstetter and his wife, Magdelene COALHAVEN. They were married in Montgomery County, VA in the very late 1700's, probably around 1798 or 1799. The marriage record lists Magdelene's surname as COALHAVEN. Since COALHAVEN isn't really a surname, and there were COPENHAVERS all around, I believe that Magdelene was a Copenhaver. The trouble is that I haven't been able to figure out whose daughter she was. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!
In my note previous, I put that Richard and Martha were married in 1846. That was inaccurate,or a typo. They were actually married in 17 April 1856. In Audrain County.*

For the 1850 census you can find Richard Branstetter in Indian Township, Pike County, Missouri on page 256. He is in the home of his father Peter Branstetter who was age 55 at the time.

I did not find Martha Woodson or her father, Alan on a search of 1850 census documents. Hope this helps.

Laura Hazelwood

*Audrain County, Missouri Marriage Records, 1836-79, www.ancestry.com,
Name: Richard M. Branstetter
Spouse: Martha W. Woodson
Marriage Date: 17 Apr 1856.

I have a photo from the 1880's of a large wagon which has the logo "Branstetter's Comedy Co." emblazoned on the side. The wagon was built in Boonville, MO (Cooper County) at the Weyland Carriage Works by Louis Weyland and his sons. I thought it might belong to one of your ancestors. You can reach me at:

Sharina at brian lambert dot net.

Sharina Lambert

Avanell was my dad's first cousin. His father was
Jesse E BRANSTETTER (b 1882 - d 1944) Jesse was
@ 20 yrs older than my grandfather, Lyman, although they were brothers. Avanell was nearly 20 when my dad was born. Family notes show Avanell as marrying
a NANCE. He might have used the combined last name of BRANSTETTER NANCE. It appears he had no children.
Can anyone add to this info?

Avanell's brothers were
Eugene (b1903 - d ))
Willis (b1904 - d 1962)
Miles (b 1907 - )
James P (b1913- ))
and
Paul (b1920 - d 1923)

Brandy
bransflakes@earthlink.net
I am trying to get my family history together . any info my help

Frank jr and Karl are my Grand uncles.
I have bits and pieces of an old family tree compiled by

Chester Sterling.

It contains some of the same info that I found at

heritagepursuit.com (scroll down)

showing Mahala as Mahala Caroline.

Have you found this to be incorrect?

You show her to be Mahala G.

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=roberta...

http://www.heritagepursuit.com/index.html
pico search branstitter
1.
Branstetter Tenter 1899 - 1990

I was playing around and using simple search terms

found

http://www.rootsweb.com/~nwa/tenter/tenter.html

which is a beautiful tribute from Elwood G McCann, Jr

to his grandmother, Fannie Marie BRANSTETTER

Tenter.

Not my line, but she lived in my

extended neighborhood.

Reading it made me wish I had known her -

been related to her.

Nice!
Brandy
bransflakes@earthlink.net

I was just wondering if you had any information on the geislers.
I have an anna geisler in my tree she married ernst konrad.I dont have dates but they would have been born between 1850 and 1875, they had a child named anna pauline Konrad. she was born abt. 1895
all the names that you have mentioned are in my family tree although the surname is different. i do know that christian names where passed down through generations and it just seems a bit coincidental that these names are in my tree

Hello Cousin,
Thank you for the post. I am of the RIPPEE line, a gg-grandson of Jeremiah OLIVER through Ima Ermyn Trude OLIVER who married Foster Asberry RIPPEE. My grandfather is Bernis Isaiah RIPPEE.
Please look at the picture labeled "Page 21", I have identified this family as Frank and Bertie BRANSTETTER and children Vada and Julian taken 1904. So this should be your grandparents prior to your fathers birth!
I have research material on my RIPPEE line and as many collateral lines as I find. I don't have much on my OLIVER's. I would love to compare notes and you are welcom to whatever I have.
I will send a copy of this post to your email address and you will then have my email address as well. Thank you again,
John Hughes
