I am intersted in these two indivduals, Elias and Horace Brant. They appear to be father and son from the 1830 census. I also would like a list of their chidlren if one exists. I understand Elias moved on to Grand Rapids and died there about 1836. What happened to Horace?

Simeon and Robert Brand 1782 West Greenwich RI

I have been working on the Simeon Brant name. It appears to me that there were two of them. One served in the Revolutionary War and married Prudence Phelps and the other married Phebe Loetz. There are land records in West Greenwich, Rhode Island that show Simeon and Phebe selling land in 1789 to Samuel Albro. This is three years after Simeon of the Rev. War married Prudence Phelps in 1786. How could that be if they are one in the same? Also there is a land sale in 1778 from Simeon and Phebe to his "father" Robert Brand. I beleive this clearly indicates the Simeon who married Phebe was the son of Robert Brand (Sr.). The father of the other Simeon of the Rev. War may have been the son of a Simeon Brand/Brend who is found in the 1782 tax records along with Robert (Sr.). They were both over 50 years of age, which would make their births before1732. For Simeon and Phebe to have had a son by 1776 he would probably have been born about 1750. I believe Simeon of the Rev. War may have been a son of this Simeon and was born in 1758 as his Rev. War records indicate. The Simeon Brand/Brant of the Rev. War would have been too young to have owned land in 1778 and too young to be the married by 1776. I do not see how these could be one in the same. It appears these two Simeon Brand/Brant persons were cousins. I believe somone has combined these two individuals into one person. Also in the town records of West Greenwich you can find references to Robert Brand keeping the children of Simeon Brand and also people of the town were paid for doing the same. These two children are named Mason and Elias. They appear later as the brothers of Simeon Brant (b.1776) who came to Michigan in 1836 from NY. This Simeon was the son of Simeon and Phebe (Loetz) Brand/Brant. Please let me know what you think of this? I know the early records of the Brand family are sparse. Does anyone have a record of a Simeon Brand being a brother of Robert Brand Sr.?

Thanks. I don't recognize any of the names you provide, but I have found out more information about Charley Brant and his wife Sarah Alyea, who married in Kansas and later got land in the Cherokee Strip Run of 1893 and had a daughter who married Edgar Lee Wall long enough to have two boys--including my grandfather Edgar Charles Wall. If you have any more information on your Wall family, I'd be happy to compare notes. I can trace them a fair ways back, to the colonial era.

I also have more information on Charles Brant and his wife Sarah Alyea. In fact, while researching this post I just happened to google a book that revealed to me Sarah's parents and grandparents for the first time ever--a major, major breakthrough for me!

November 10, 1899 Cambria Freeman newspaper, Ebensburg, Pa.
Mrs. George Brant was called to Pittsburg to see her husband, Mr. George Brant, whose condition is weakening and we deeply regret his state is growing worse, his health which heretofore was good is noticeably failing which naturally has a tendency to weakening his impaired intellect.
Did you ever find the mother of Fanny? My grandmother listed a Fanny with her birthdate as her stepsister and her married name as Bowser. Her mother may be Mary Jane Edwards who married 31 Mar 1881 to Samuel Detwiler, my line. On the 1880 cen. there is an Anna S. Brandt 1/2 yr. listed as grand daugher of Margaret J Edwards. Mary Jane is at home. 1900 cen. Fanny is a servant with Geo. W Taylor

The pdf of the Cober book has been updated with an introduction that provides some early history of the area with both information and speculation about the early days of this family. If you would like a copy, email your Brant lineage as far back as you have it documented. If we determine that you are a descendant of John Brandt Sr of Ligonier, we will send you a free copy.

For those descendant from other Brant families, we urge you to continue your search, but the materials we have would only divert you from that effort by creating false leads.

POW/MIA JKorean War BRANT

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Multnomah County, Oregon as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ALBERT WILLIAM BRANT, JR
Born: 1930
Date of loss: October 17, 1952 MIA
US56087174
L Co, 5th RCT

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Brant family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I have a John Brant, son of Thomas Brant and Jane Dunkirk. He was b. 2 Feb 1824 in Ohio.

I have two Alfred Brants, although the spouses I show are not the one you mention in the first post.

Maj. Alfred Brant, b. 14 Sep 1833, Tuscawaras County, Ohio, then moved to Missouri. Son of Seth Brant and Rachel Jackson, he was m. to Elizabeth Fairleigh.

Alfred Brant, b. 16 Dec 1860, Indiana, he lived between 1880-1930 in Illinois. Son of Thomas Jefferson Brant and Elizabeth Swank, he was m. to Daisy Montgomery.

Do any of these fit with either of your Brant lines?

Regards,
Allrelated

Do you know if your William C. Brant had a brother named Ezra Brant? I have an Ezra Brant, b. abt 1775, supposedly in Pennsylvania, but I have never found him there in any of the usual rolls, etc. there. By 1804, he was in Boardman Township, Mahoning County, Ohio, per the Ohio Early Census Index, tax list. In the 1820 census, he was in Sandy Twp., Tuscarawas County, Ohio and 1830, Stark, Pike County, Ohio.

Hummm... I wonder if he is one of the son's of John Brant of Ill. I am searching the line of Hezekiah Brant and think a sibling was an Alfred Brant. Also use Ancestry to search stories and periodicals... It may be through one of book excerpts that listed John's children.

Contact me if you wish.

Donna

There is a book on the history of Hancock CO, Ill that is very helpful in researching these Brants. I am searching the same line. I looked up Hezekiah Brant via Ancestry.com, then searched for historical records, then selected the stories tab to access the stories about this family. I tried to copy and paste to Hezekiah's records but could only do so as a note. I don't think anyone else can read this note.

Also try a Google search for Hezekiah Brant, Hancock Co., Ill

I found another book that way. I would also try to google using John's name and those of his children.

According to these resouces, John is a John Jr. His wife is Isabella and her parents came from Edinbough, Scotland and landing at New Orleans, LA.

Hope this helps.
Donna
