Big Flat, Baxter, Arkansas, d. 23 August 1935 in Checotah, McIntosh, Oklahoma) and Martha Mounce/Mounts (b. about 1864, lived in New Burnside, Johnson, Illinois, d. before 1908):
1) Beulah Brantley (1887-1985) m. Carl Zachary
2) Julius Carrol Brantley (1888-1973) m. Elizabeth from France
3) Roy VanClieve Brantley (1891-1939) unmarried
4) [Unknown Name] (1892-)
5) Elmer Ewing Brantley (1895-1963) m. Zubie Mozura Hammond

Particularly interested in any information about child #4, listed as alive when B.B. applied for a land grant in Arkansas in 1892. Don't know name, gender--nada.

Also seeking any info on what happened to Martha. No death cert. in Oklahoma records (which only go back to 1908), can never find family together on a census. B.B. is listed living by himself in Oklahoma City directories from 1906 on.

Kim - searching for lineage of my Great-Grandfather George Brantley born of Nash, NC (10/22/1886) and died in Robeson, NC (10/14/1956). I have his death record showing his mother as Lorella Worrenton Brantley but no father. My uncle tells that there was a rumor that George was adopted but no confirmation. George had 2 wives, Maggie (unk last name) and Mady Brown Avery Brantley both of NC. George had one son, Joseph, born in 1915 in Newport News, VA. I have not been able to find any further lineage information beyond George and Lorella. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I do believe that Nancy Sweat that married William T. Brantley was the daughter of William Jasper Sweat who migrated from Chester, SC to Wrightsville, GA. However, this is not a proven fact. They were shown in 1850 in Chester, SC as Swet. William, Demarious(Mary), H.W. (Henry), Nancy, J.L. and Thomas Swet.

H.W. Swet or Sweat also married a Nancy. H.W. was killed in the war and I believe that this particular Nancy Swet later married Sherrod Lawrence in Washington Co.

Searching for information on the family of Joseph Thomas "Joe" and Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Smith Brantley who lived in the Banks community of Pike County, Alabama. Any information on their children and the children's spouses would be greatly appreciated.

The following is the genealogical information that I currently have on the family.

Joseph Thomas "Joe" Brantley (born August 1875) married Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Smith (August 1877-18 April 1963) and lived in the Banks community of Pike County, Alabama. Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Smith Brantley was a daughter of John William Smith (4 September 1814-21 June 1895) and Margaret E. Joannah Ramage (18 January 1838-25 December 1912) who he married on 8 October 1876 in Pike County, Alabama.

The children of Joseph Thomas "Joe" and Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Smith Brantley were: Willie Brantley (a daughter born March 1895); Margaret Lester "Maggie" Brantley (27 June 1897-30 November 1997) married Joseph E. Thomas and settled in Texas; John Washington "Jack" Brantley (born 11 December 1899); William Benjamin Brantley (born ca. 1902); George M. Brantley (21 April 1905-May 1982); Joseph Homer "Joe" Brantley (ca. 1908-15 January 1966) married Catherine ______; Jerald D. Brantley (born ca. 1912); and Mary F. Brantley (born ca. 1918).

I am a descendent of Greene and Mary thru Oren Brantley. I have actually gone through the woods and seen their burial place near the old Federal road in Alabama. The owner of the property is very gracious to allow kin on his property. I am also listed in the Brantley book as Cheryl Ivey.

In our family, the name "William Brantley Alsobrook" repeats many times, from an ancestor who was born 1774 in Scotland Neck, Halifax Co., NC. This William B(rantley) Alsobrook was only a toddler when his father died, and was an only child. His father was apparently a soldier in the Revolution, became ill, and died as William's mom was walking, carrying her small son, towards the place where her husband was ill. She did not make it in time. William apparently prospered as he grew up in Halifax County, NC. He married Alice Sessums in 1797, and they later migrated about 1830 to Franklin Co. AL.

William named a son William Brantley Alsobrook, and he in turn named a son William Brantley Alsobrook, and he in turn passed this name on. Although we have no clue who the parents of our William were, we find it more than coincidence that the name William Brantley continued to be carried forward for so long. Since there were indeed Brantleys in Halifax Co. NC, we were wondering if anyone has any information that might shed some light on the parentage of our first William.

I realize this is a "needle in a haystack" request, but my cousins and I have been working on this for years, with no luck. There are many online trees which give "ancestors" for William, but those trees' information contradict much of what we have gleaned from family letters and Bibles. We have not had much luck in finding primary sources. We figure there may well be a Brantley family connection, so that's why I'm posting here, in the off chance that someone may know something.

This couple lived in Laurens from what records I have found. Martha 1867-1947 and William 1866-1940. Married Dec 23, 1892 have found no records past 1880 when Martha was living with her widow mother and siblings. I do not know if this link will help you but I did notice a William Brantley born in Halifax County in 1736. You may want to do research from there. William is a very common name in the Brantley line both my uncle and brother have the name. My maiden name is Brantley and I live in NC.

Hi there...I don't think I got your personal email. Anyway, I am a Bender with paternal roots in Jasper County. My mother was a Gipson from Neshoba County...her mother was Juanita Brantley who was married to Walter Brantley...Walter's father was either mulatto or white. I do have more details at my public Bender Family Tree.

A Quiet Wedding

For a strictly private affair Mr. Thomas C. Brantley has certainly distanced all competitors. When he assisted from the train on Saturday of last week a beautiful young lady his most intimate friends did not suspect that they were the youngest married couple in town. Thursday's west bound Texas & Pacific train numbered among its passengers Mr. Brantley, bound for Ft. Worth. On the following day at 4 o'clock p.m. he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Randall at the residence of the bride's father, Dr. L. J. Randall. Rev. J. Morgan Wells, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. County Clerk King was instructed to withhold from the reporters the fact that a marriage license had been issued to the above named parties, hence it was left with the young couple to break the news of their marriage on their arrival in Terrell. The Times-Star and a host of friends extend congratulations and wishes future happiness and prosperity.
