August Brantley or Dr. Brantley

I’m I’m looking for my Great Great Grandfather. I was told his name was Gus Brantley. Martha and Gus grew up together on the farm as playmates, but Martha was black. My Grandmother Martha Stantley and Gus Brantley end up having a child Hattie Bell (Recorded as Mullatto Born 1898 and hushed out of hitory books). Martha was born in 1880 which I’m told they were about the same age, and Gus was possibly a Doctor, but I’m not sure of that. Approximately in the 1940’s is the date Gus sent for Hattie Bell (Hattie Bell moved from Dublin to New Jersey after the passing of her mother Martha Guyton) on his death bed, but because of the fear of going back down south she didn’t go. Hattie would later be known as Hattie Bell Guyton an then Hattie Bell Smith, which neither is her maiden name. Martha was know as Martha Guyton and maybe a maiden name of Stantley. Many family members don't want to help me on this, but for anyone who can help, it would mean so much!

Thanks
Shawn

Mary Jane Brantley in North Carolina (Union Co.)

Hello, I am looking for information about my G G Grandmother Mary Jane Brantley (she went by Jane)(1851-?). She was married to James Thomas Mullis (who went by Tom)(1853-?).

Their children were Thomas Jarvis, Lillie, Charly, Pearl, Bud, Robert, John and Daisy Ann (my G Grandmother- she married William Caesar Thomas).

They lived in North Carolina-
According to the "1900 US Federal Census, NC, Stanly, Furr, District 125"
and in New Salem Township in Union Co. NC in the 1910 Census.

I have info that suggests that Mary Jane might be the daughter of James B Brantley and Elizabeth J. __?___.

One area of confusion is whether Elizabeth J.'s maiden name is Elizabeth (Bledsoe?) Baucom, wife of Lewis Baucom. I have only one unsourced link to that name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Leesa Leva

I don't have a clue as to any names of her parents or siblings.

Thanks,
Anita

They had 7 children, 6 living - 3 boys and 3 girls when SMITH died in 1844. His church - Bethesda Baptist stood near Ellerslie, Harris County, Georgia.
Help w/Brantley Family

I am having a hard time making ends meet if anyone out there can help me after reading this PLEASE do! Ok....My g-g-grandfather was John Bartow Brantley he married Elizabeth (Liz) Foskey they had a son named Virgil Rountree. John's daddy was Joseph Jeremiah (I think or it could have been Jeremiah ?) he married Celia Wilson together they had: James, Allie, Celia Jane, Freeman, Lee, John (my g-g-grandfather), Chappell Ozara (she was called Sis). I am assuming that his wife Celia Wilson died because he then married Bessie James and they had: Sessam, Dessie, Lessie Blanton. I think that maybe Joseph (or Jeremiah..like I said I am not sure of his name) was born in 1848 I think his daddy was William Brantley who was born in 1800 I am not sure of the year he died. William was married to Nancy Wommack in 1827 (this info. is also a ?) they had William Whittle in 1828 (he was married to Sarah Ann Warnock on Aug. 14, 1849 in Laurens Co. GA) Joseph Jeremiah in 1848 (again it could have been Jeremiah something or a totally different name all together). William's daddy (the one born in 1800) was named Joseph Jeremiah. I don't know who is wife was or when he was born or died but, I do know his children were: William (born 1800/ died ?), Lewis (born died ?)(he married Isabella Luke and their children were William Brantley born abt. 1839 in Laurens Co. GA John Brantley born abt. 1841 in Laurens Co. GA), James (born/died?) Mary (born/died?). I know my g-g-grandfather (John) was from the Washington, Johnson, Laurens Co. GA area. If anyone out there can give me any info what so ever it would be very much greatly appreciated!!!
**Jessica Owens**

Meredith Brantley, Rev War soldier, Halifax? Co NC

Meredith Brantley, apparently from the area of the NC counties of Northampton, Warren and Halifax, received Rev War bounty land around 1796. His assignee was Sherrod Barrow.

Anyone know which unit Brantley served in, where his bounty land was located, or whether he occupied this land?

Sherrod Barrow appears to have been from Dobbs Co (maybe later Greene Co) NC. The name Sherrod Barrow appears on a land deed in Hancock Co GA in 1797.
For other BRANTLEY data, go to http://www.genealogybuff.com/data.htm#Brantley
Hope this helps.
Bill
GenealogyBuff.com

Talitha Brantley married to John Fisher Adair, early 1800s in Georgia

I'm looking for any information about a Talitha Brantley who married John Fisher Adair, supposedly in Georgia. I've seen marriage dates ranging from 1810 to 1815. The only birthdate I've seen for Talitha is 1785, and she supposedly died about 1822 or 1823. Nothing I've seen about her has any sources whatsoever.

I know that John Fisher Adair migrated from Laurens County, South Carolina to Morgan County, Georgia around 1800. He was supposedly married three times, Talitha being wife # 1.

If there was such a marriage, then I believe that she may be the mother of Talitha Adair that married Bailey Estes in Henry County, Georgia around 1835-40.

Jesse Brantley of Kemper County, MS

Jesse Brantley was born about 1769 in N. Carolina, died about 1838 in Kemper County, MS (per familysearch.org). Jesse had a son by the name of Thomas, who married Caroline Elizabeth Tisdale on 9 Nov. 1829 in Sumter Co., SC. On the 1837 Kemper Co, MS Census records, it shows that Jesse had 7 male slaves over 16, and 4 female slaves over 16, Thomas had 3 male slaves over 16, and 1 female slave over 16. There was a sale for one of the male slaves on 6 Jan 1838 in Kemper Co, MS by Thomas Brantley to Jane Calvert, sister of Thomas' wife Caroline, who's name was 'Jim', age about 18, who I believe was my GG Grandfather. Jesse left no will, and, I wrote the Kemper County, MS courthouse and their records don't go back that far. How do I find out the contents of tax records for those years (1837/8) and if there was a possible probate record for Jesse? I am trying to determine 'who' exactly was the owner of 'JIM', Jesse or Thomas before the sale to Jane Calvert. Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Hunting to All!
Dena Jordan

Looking for children of Jesse Brantley

Per Familysearch.Org, Jesse Brantley had a son by the name of Thomas Brantley. On Jan. 6, 1838, Thomas made this sale:

Thomas Brantley for $1800 paid by Jane Calvert and for the futher consideration of the *natural love and affection* I bear to said Jane Calvert, I hereby sell two certain negro men to wit: Thomas, aged about 28 years and James (my GG Grandfather), aged about 18 years, three head of horses, 25 head of cattle and 50 head of hogs to have and to hold to the sould and individual use of the said Jane Cavert and the heirs of her body by William Calvert betotten forever.
6 Jan 1838
Deed recorded Kemper Co., MS 1838
Deed recorded Union County, AR 9 Aug 1843
(This information given to me by a kind Geni on the Union Parish, LA mailing list).

At first, I thought Thomas was the father of Jane, but research (thanks Ken of the Brantley Assoc) proved that not to be the case. As I looked again at the 1850 Union Parish, LA census today, I noticed that Thomas lived one farm away from Jane! Never noticed *that* before! Thomas was 44 and Jane (who also goes by the name of Mary Jane on the census records) was 33, married to William Calvert. Maybe they could have been sister and brother? Does anyone know?

Any and all answers are appreciated.
Thanks All!
Dena Calbert-Jordan
juneirene@aol.com

Brantley's in Louisiana and Arkansas

Greetings All,
I have obtained what I think is wonderful new leads in my research from the Brantley Association (Thanks Ken Brantley!)
Now, I'm on the hunt for a Thomas Brantley , who resided in Union Parish, LA, son of Jesse Brantley. Thomas' wife's name was Caroline. My first question is, does anyone know if Thomas and Caroline had a daughter by the name of Martha Jane or Mary Jane? I noticed on familysearch.org, that Thomas mother's name was Martha.
Second question, does anyone who has studied the Brantley's in Union Parish, LA. have a copy of the succession record of Thomas L. Brantley, it would be located in Book A-1, Pg. 185-186? The Union Parish LA courthouse doesn't answer query's.
My main search is for Martha (Mary) Jane Brantley, who married William Calvert of Union Parish. I think after the death of William (who is located on the 1850 Union Parish census) Martha Jane could have moved to Union County, Arkansas, this is where my Calbert family ended up on the 1880 census.

Thanks All!
Dena Calbert-Jordan
Vallejo, California
San Francisco Bay Area.

Our files contain records on all Brantleys in the US through 1900. Give me your ancestor's name, whereabouts and approx. age in 1900 and we will likely be able to take you back several generations. See our WEB site at: http://members.tripod.com/BrantleyAssociation
{exactly as shown here}
