My great great grandfather was John B. Brashears and he was married to Susannah Kingsley. I know that they lived in Maryland. Their son was John Kingsley Brashears and he was married to Amanda C. Shafer. All of these people are from Maryland. John Kingsley Brashears moved his family eventually to Chicago, IL and that is where my grandfather, John Willis Brashears was born. The wife of a distant cousin of mine is working on the Brashears line also.

My email address is lizw@mchsi.com

Yes I am. Sampson Brashears and Margaret "Peggy" Bright Brashears were my ggg-grandparents.
Their son Ezekiel, was a brother to your John Brashears who married Rebecca Christian. Ezekiel married Nancy Cornett. She died in 1857. He married Mary Anne Combs in 1859. Then he was killed in 1864 in the Civil War. His son, Lafayette M. Brashears was my g-grandfather.

Norma

Joyce, I’m not of any of these families, I’m a Surnames researcher I help people find their ancestors, that being said. This Zadoc or Zadok, is from Alabama, Sumter county, It seems that Zadok Ser., had register his family. In the family there was one child over ten, and unmarried, and the other under ten years. After these children got older they came to claim their land, only to find there was no record of Zadok Ser. Being on the register. He was later found on the register, for citizenship but not on the main register.

Testimony was being taken that Zadok Ser., did indeed signed the register. The children names were: Ophia Brashears since married to one Dennis Payne, then a boy, named David Walker.

That’s all I can tell you.
Dennis S.
Joyce, all the Brashears on the list are in the record of Indians owning farms, this it part of the treaty of Dancing Rabbit. I couldn’t find any link of Jesse being of Indian Blood, My Zadok or Zadoc, was a half breed.

Dennis Segelquist
Civilian & Military Surname Searcher
http://www.civilwarthosesurnames.blogspot.com

I am Joyce Brashears ggggrand daughter of Jesse Brashears, son of Isaac. Jesse was born in Roane County Tennessee 1800, it is not proven, but thought that Isaac had two wifes the 2nd being indian, that would be Zadok, and Jesse. I cannot find any information that helps trace Jessee to any indian blood. I am supposed to be of French Cherokee blood, family is from Berryville, Carroll County and Johnson County Arkansas.

Do you have any information.

Thank you...Joyce

Found Letter Nathan Brashares Fairfield County Ohio

I found this letter. It was written to my husband's great aunt. She was working on the family tree back in the 1970's. It's from her cousin, once removed.

April 2, 1976

Brashares came with a wagon train to Revenge, Fairfield Co. during the War of 1812. FREEMAN, a boy of 9yrs, (my great, great grandfather) rode ahead to "spy out the land". JOE was named after him. Looking back across the Brashares years, I found a number of JOHNS, JOSEPHS,and WILLIAMS. There were several NATHANS. They are supposed to be buried in the cemetery at Hopewell, Revenge Ohio, but I can't find any Brashares grave there. No one else can.

CREIGHTON found FREEMAN'S will in Lancaster, when he was settling up MINNIE'S affairs and brought me a copy. He left everything to your father (WILLIAM TECUMSEH BRASHARES and my grandfather, CHARLES WESLEY BRASHARES. My grandfather was 7 years older than your father. My grandfather went to McLuny Station, Perry County and got into the pottery business when his father died. He married there and my father was born there. My father and I took a ride one day and as I drove up a big hill near New Lexington, we looked out across the hills and he said, " I was born in some of the hills. I wish I knew where!" He never knew where he was born.

CREIGHTON never wanted me to go ahead with the genealogy. He was afraid I would find some ancestor that had been hanged.

It was quite a family in FRANCE. The kings genealogist wrote a history of the Brashares (spelled 13 different ways) but it was destroyed in the French Revolution. It was a strong Roman Catholic family. ROBERT and BENJAMIN were the two Huguenots who came to America. NATHAN, the first to come to OHIO was married to ELIZABETH SCHEDENHELF in Frederick MARYLAND. I have been in that church. There is a lot of BRASHEARS there. My mother told me once that your father changed the spelling of the name. In all of the records at the Court House in LOGAN (OHIO) it is spelled Brashears. My mother liked Brashears better. JESSE told me once that every name that began with Brash was the same family. I think she was right.

This is the beginning of the story. If you have any questions to ask, let me know. There isn't much in HERRICK'S notes that helped. I hired two genealogists in Maryland to work on it. I have so much of this kind of work to do all the time that I can't get to our own.

I'll write more later. I hope you are feeling ok. Let me hear from you.

The letter was not sighned... but I can probably figure out who wrote it.

Hope you enjoyed the letter!

James Brashears

I am looking for a James Brashears married to Eliza Stone. Several of the references I have found indicate he may have been born around 1826, however, according to a death certificate filed by a Mrs E. S. Brashears for Edward Neeley Brashears indicates that Edward was born in 1874.

While it wouldn't be unprecedented, it certainly would be unusual for couple in their late 40s to have a child.

The problem I have encountered is that many researchers are quick to substitute alternative spellings of Brashears even though the rest of the data doesn't seem to fit.

Edward Neeley Brashears indicated that he was born in Kentucky and that both of his parents were born in Illinois, thus it is at least possible my James was born in Illinois or Kentucky.

The correct family records I have at this point are:

James Brashears married Eliza Stone and they had at least one child, Edward Neeley Brashears.

Edward Neeley Brashears (b.15 Jan 1874 d.07 Dec 1939) married Dallie Madden (b.09 Sep 1879 d.27 Jan 1954)
Their children are:
William Brashears b.1900
Lessie Brashears b.1905
Clarence Brashears b.1913

William Brashears married Cora Lona Thompson (b.Jan 1897)
Their children are:
Billy Lee Brashears (d.13 Jun 1986)
Cora Bell Brashears (b.04 Jun 1923)

Billy Lee Brashears married Opal Bernice Carter (b.05 Sep 1929 d.09 Oct 2008)
Their children are:
Mike Brashears
Sheila Brashears (Burton)
Tim Brashears

I hope I have provided enough information so that someone can help me decipher this.

Richard Rhodes Bracheat, Comanche County, Texas was my daughter's great, great, great (2 I think may be 4 greats) grand father. Yes he was a Texas Ranger, but only for a short time. He was also a Confederate Soldier. I am just begning to get the family history together. I will share as I put it together. You will see a lot of marrying in and out of the Owens family. Sometimes family i.e. cousins and sometimes others. My brother-in-law is way ahead of me in doing the research and when he gets back to the west he is going to share with me.
Marie

Thank you and Vicki Tuttle for adding to my information on Sarah Grace Breshears. This wonderful world seems to be a great big Family Circle. My Great-Grandfather was Joseph W. Breshears; brother to John Wesley who was the father of Nathan J. Breshears. Joseph's daughter Christina S. married James Adam Ross and my father was Ira Bee Ross (all in Oklahoma of course). I was born in Westville, OK. My dad's twin brother, James Dee Ross, was the grandfather of Jim "JR" Ross that is affiliated with wrestling on TV. (I don't watch it but my brother has told me he is there.) I live in Texas now but most of my family are still in OK.
