Brasier family NYC 1750s - 1800s

Greetings - I am trying to find out if anybody has information on a Barbara Brasher who would have been married in the early 1790s in New York.

I am really struggling to find out more information about a potential connection to this family. In November of 1804, a George & Barbara Bolander had a child named "Mary Brasher Bolander." I am a descendant of her and, not knowing the mother's surname, I have suspected it to have been Brasher due to the naming of her child.

In addition, her son was named Ephraim B. Bolander - I suspect the middle initial was also Brasher. Clearly Ephraim Brasher was a well-known individual in the city so I just have to think there is a connection.

The records I have searched have yielded no baptisms of a Barbara Brasher.

George Bolander lived very close to both Lawrence Brasher and Baker Brasher. Does anybody know if they had children and if so, what their names may be. I have been searching this for a long time and I would be extremely grateful if anybody has more information on either Lawrence or Baker's children.

Thanks -

JK

Hi, I am looking for more information on my Brazier side of the family. My gg grandfather was Francis Brazier born abt 1818 in Upper Canada. I know nothing of his side of the family tree. Does anyone have information on Braziers from the Quebec area? He married and had a large family in Quebec. All the census records state that he was French Canadian and Roman Catholic.
Thanks
Pat

I think this is the guy we've been trying to track down.
Family records have Jean Claude Brasier born in France, married to Sarah, but haven't been able to find when he came over.

Looks like the family stories are more likely about his father, as Jean would have only been 12 when he came over. The story we have is that he was a ship builder during the Civil War and they had to make tracks after a story in a newspaper questioned his loyalties for selling ships to both sides. There was an article mentioning all this by the DAR in the Oakland (CA) Genealogy Library (my husband saw it some years ago and we have been trying to locate the article again)

John Clifford Brasier (Jean's son) was born in 1877, and that is our connection.

Hope so, anyway. Thanks
Rowan

Hi Rod

This is a bit of a wild stab in the dark, but it all feels too much like a wierd co-incidence to ignore!

I also have a William Brasier, with a son William, but they are 1844 and 1860, so not the same ones. The wierd bit is that our Brasier family also emigrated to Canada (Toronto) in the early 1900s (I am guessing somewhere around 1913 when my Great Grandparents married). She was Clara Eliza Brasier, born 02/10/1889 in Coggeshall, Essex, and he was Lewis Maynard Possee, born 19/02/1886, Marden, Kent. I am not sure who of the Brasier family exactly went, but several stayed in Canada. My Great Grandparents returned to Braintree, Essex, in the 1930's with my Grandfather Rowland Brasier Possee (born in Toronto in 1916).
Clara's parents were William Brasier born 1884 and Eliza (nee Rowland) born 1843, both in Coggeshall.

It may just be a wierd co-incidence, but there may be a family link there somewhere, so I had to pursue it!

Kind regards

Sarah Evans (nee Possee)

Hi Rod, I never expected to receive a reply & certainly not this quick-I think this is brilliant!
I live in Gloucester, UK-how about yourself?
My father, Alan Elliott, has given me quite alot of info re the Braziers:- your Grt Grandfather, William, had 2 sisters namely Harriet ( b.1850) & Anne (b. 1832). There were also 5 brothers, Thomas (b. 1845), Henry (b. 1840), Samuel (b. 1838), James (b. 1836) & Alfred (b.1842). Alfred married Ellen Macnaughton (b.1836) & they had 7 children. Their 1 son, Edward, married Annie Reckitts & they had6 children. 1 of their daughters was my Grandma, Elsie Macnaughton Brazier, who married Alan Thomas Elliott. They had 2 children, my Auntie Jean & my father, Alan Macnaughton Elliott. My brother & I inherited the 'Macnaughton' second name! As a child, I was really embarassed about it, but now I am really proud.
I have quite alot more Brazier names & years of births, but very little else.
Look forward to hearing from you again!
Kind Regards
Karen

I don't know if our Brasier lines connect or not. It is not a common name, so it is likely that there is a connection since they were both in Indian Terr. or OK. These are the names of the children of John Brasier: Eva, Carrie, Johnny, Henry, Charlie, Raymond. John's wife was Sarah Bell Odell. That is all I know about John...still looking.

I have a letter from M. L. (louie) Fearn written to Mabel Tonn in 1934. My interest is the comment regarding cousins. My 2nd Great Grandfather was William Flack, born in Herts, England, abt 1824. He married Caroline Sarah Brasier, also born in England, 8 Mar, 1819. I have very little information regarding the Brasier side of my research. Their marriage certificate states that the residance before marriage was Queen Street. I assume county of KENT? Caroline's father name was Samuel Brasier. Most of my Flack Tribe is from the Herts area.

Does anyone have information on this line of Brasiers?
Any information would be helpful

I am looking for information on Matilda's family as well and of the Russells. My grandmother Emma Elizabeth (Williams) Davis was the youngest daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Calvin) and James Mack Williams. Mary was the oldest daughter of Matilda and Luther by what I can learn. My grandmother spoke of "Georgie" Russell but has the letters she had received from the members of the Russell family have been lost that part of my grandmother's family tree is gone. Emma was the type of person that everyone seem to love (can't say that much for my grandfather other than people said his word was his bond. Any help you may be able to give would be great. I do know that Martha spent more time with the Russell family than any of the other girls and at one time one of Lewis' boys applied for Luther Calvin's Civil War Pension. Thank you for the information you have left

French Canadian? John Hugh Brasier b. 4 Feb 1860

This mess is my 2nd great-grandfather. I have varying reports from family members and this guy has been too elusive to track down on census records. Family says he was French Canadian, and that four children were supposedly born in Kentucky. Census and family records indicate that's not true. His first two girls (Jennie/Generva and Mettie) were born in Missouri and his last three (James Franklin, Mary Ella and Elsie Jewel) were born in Oregon. per census.

He died in Missouri on 7 June 1936. In the family he is known as "daddy long legs" because he had long legs and rumor is he couldn't sit still, loved to travel. He is known as the "meanest man I ever knew" by some in our family. It is possible he lied about his place of birth (and even may have lied for the kids) on census.

I know for sure he spent time in Couer D'Alene ID, St. Louis, MO, Baker City, OR, and McCall, ID, from family memories of working with him and seeing him in those places. The living family members seem to all think he came from Canada.

Any help appreciated.

Kirsten

Like you, it seems that life's (too) busy.
Just to let you know that I've registered with Genes Reunited, and posted my version of the Brazier tree (under Roderick Brazier). Unfortunately, I've discovered that 'registering' is not the same as becoming a 'member' (which has an annual fee attached). I haven't decided if I'll do that yet.
So, if you're a member, you might be able to see the tree I've posted, for whatever value that might be (you probably have all that information already.) He was married to Mary Anne (maiden name unknown), and resided in Boughton Aluph, Kent, where my grandfather, William Henry Brazier was born in 1881.
Good to hear from you Karen.
Yes, William Brazier (b.1847) is my great-grandfather, and his son William (b.1881) is my grandfather. William the younger immigrated to Canada sometime around 1900, where he married Agnes Toogoode (also from the UK). They had 9 children (8 boys, 1 girl!) and raised the family in Bracebridge, Ontario. One son, Victor John Brazier is my father (d.1974).
We know nothing about my grandfather's sister Millicent, or other branches of the family, including yours. Would love to know more, so anything you're willing to share would be great.
Where in the world are you? Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards, Rod

Well Karen, I posted that message you responded to quite a while ago and, like you, wasn't really expecting a reply -- so it's a wonderful surprise.
It sounds like you're working from the same Census data I have. I got mine through a Brazier website based in the UK. It shows both our branches descended from Samuel Brazier (b.1785) (unless you have something earlier?)
I have a portion of my grandfather's Canadian military records, which indicate that he was born in Boughton Aluph, Kent, but I have no information on whether his extended family (aunts, uncles, grandparents) lived in the same area.
It's interesting to me how often certain names recur in a family. I notice Alfred Brazier had children named Arthur, Edward, William and Charles. Those given names show up in my father's family as well (my uncles)
Following my grandfather's immigration to Canada, all but one of his children raised their own families in Ontario. I grew up in an area of Ontario called Muskoka (cottage country) about 150 km north of Toronto. I currently live with my family near Ottawa, Canada's capital.
Did you know your grandmother Elsie? Did she ever talk about her family?
I'm glad we connected Karen. Maybe we can keep each other posted if we uncover any new Brazier information, and I'm happy to share anything you might want to know about the Braziers in Canada (at least our branch).
Best regards,
Rod

Could this be your Grandfather?
I believe the Braziers originated in the Kent area of England.
Look forward to hearing from you!

I have quite a bit of information on the Brasier family in Oklahoma. My branch traveled as follows: Kentucky>Indiana>Kansas>Oklahoma. As it happens I live not too far from Nowata, OK. Perhaps if I had more information I could help.

Robert T. Brasier and Mary Muirhead

I am looking for any information on this married couple. Robert came from England and settled in Canada, around Ontario, married Mary, and then emigrated to the United States about 1884 and passed away in Montana.
Mary is from Scottish descent, her parents were William Muirhead and Mary Dobbie(?). Am pretty sure her parents passed away in Canada. They also lived in Ontario.

Any help greatly needed.

Kathy Clement
