Hi,

Sorry to step in. The City you are looking for is Vaudreuil which is located in the province of Quebec.

I was surfing and found this site where it seems that François and Angelique would be ancestors of mine as my parents and grand parents lived in Rigaud,QC near by Vaudreuil.

Regards

Yves Brasseur

Paul M. Brasseur 1935-2009 Ohio

Dr. Paul M. Brasseur, Ph.D., N.D.
May 17, 2009

NEWARK, Ohio: Dr. Paul M. Brasseur, Ph.D., N.D. was born in Lancaster, Ohio, to Paul M. Brasseur and Genevieve (Thimmes) Brasseur on August 11, 1935, and passed away on May 5, 2009. Paul was a modern Renaissance man with a multitude of varied interests and talents.

His family moved to Zanesville (Muskingum County) Ohio in 1947 where he graduated from Rosecrans H.S. in 1954. He then entered the Navy to see the world while studying electronic communications. During that time, he married and began his family.

After discharge he stayed in California and continued his education, obtaining degrees in Electronic Engineering, Naturopathy, Herbology, Philosophy of Religion, and more. He went on to teach at university level and traveled the world over lecturing for various companies. He was a pioneer in the computer industry, ending his stay in Silicon Valley as Intel's first test engineer.

He returned to Ohio in 1971 and settled in Newark (LIcking County) Ohio. He started Brasseur's Building Supply and Brasseur's Botanicals which his children now own. For several years he practiced Naturopathy along with Massage Therapy. He also owned the Bullet Hole Sport Shop, during which time he was active in Civil War re-enactments and black powder shooting competitions. For 15 years he portrayed Abe Lincoln in various places including Gettysburg.

Paul was a Lakota descendant and was officially adopted into the tribe when he volunteered time at the Redbud reservation hospital. Later he was appointed Chief of a Newark area inter-tribal band including about 200 Native American descendants of various tribes. He danced at Pow-Wows throughout Ohio, excelled at the Native American flute and won the national tomahawk championship in 1977. During this time he was also an EMT with Newark Twp. Fire Department.

He married JoAnn Bussert in 1998 and they started The Eagles Nest Website Solutions. In addition, they presented a Native American cultural program to various audiences throughout Ohio.

Paul was an accomplished musician who played brass, keyboard, harmonica and stringed instruments. He played mandolin and sang for the LCAP Band and belonged to the Country Music Fellowship Organization (CMFO). He enjoyed fly fishing and was a member of the Land of Legend Fly Fishers (LLFF). He maintained Websites for Brasseur's Botanicals, Rosecrans Class of '54, CMFO, LLFF, and the LCAP Band.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is sadly missed by his wife, JoAnn; children, Carrie Brasseur (fiancé, Scott Walters) and Paul (Tammy) Brasseur III and their mother, Marian Brasseur; step-children, Letty (Robert) Lee and Matthew (Natalie) Mosher; grandchildren, Lara (Dan) Thomas, Clarice Miller; Sheri, Shelli and Nicki Brasseur; and Isaac and Quincy Lee; great-granddaughter, Schembri DeLong; brother, Dick (Carol) Brasseur and their family; his best friends, EJ Franks and David Chapman, with whom he enjoyed playing music and fishing; by fellow tribe members and the many people whose lives he touched.

Per Paul's wishes, there was no viewing or funeral before his cremation. Family and friends will gather together for a celebration of his life at Zerger Hall at a date to be announced soon.
BG, thank you for the Duhamel information. I was aware that some of the family took the Duhamel name. If you care to have any of the Brasseur information that I have (it is probably posted in Canada records because it came for a cousin who lives in Saginaw, MI and he got it from a cousin in Canada) please send a request with an email address and I will gladly send a copy.
Alfe, did I ever reply to you regarding your question "What do you have?"?

I have pretty much the same information that you have back to Francois and Genevieve and forward to Brasseur's from Saginaw, Michigan. I am aware that some of the family took the Duhamel name rather than the Brasseur name and would love to see some of that information to see where the change actually happened. If you would like any of the information that I have just give me an email address that I can send it to and I will. I received my information from a cousin who lives in Saginaw. joybrass@umich.edu

Nice to hear from you. JOY

source: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/lwjones/dit.htm
"Dit": One thing that can make it difficult to find your ancestor is that he may have been using a different surname from the one that you expect. You will need to make yourself aware of any "dit" names that might be associated with the surname you're tracing, and if you can't find someone under the name of his child, you may find him under the dit name.

"Dit" in French means "say" and in this context, it means "called." In other words, a person might be Pierre Bourbeau dit Lacourse, which means that he had an ancestor named Bourbeau, but he chooses to use the name Lacourse instead. So he is Pierre Bourbeau called Lacourse.

This is great, I can hardly sleep since starting this quest & I worry that my free trial will expire soon, so here goes. The marriage license for Julien B & Mary Wynne says she was adopted so thats a brick wall---is there an Indian somewhere in the line or is it taboo to ask? My Polish g.parents were Michael & Caroline Prsyzlak. She died July 6, 1961 at Nora-Frances Hendersen Hospital in Hamilton, Canada, she was 79. I can find no trace of them---Thank you for the info--its starting to look like my husband & I will have to drive up to Sask this summer to find my mothers roots.
Frances

I will have a look and see what I can find. Marg.

Bless your heart---Thank you. Are there any living descendants of Julien & Mary. I was married & had children before my mother, Stella, told me she had been a widow when she married my father. Her family did not approve of the 1st husband & dis-owned her & told her to never come home---in latter years she wrote to her sister & her bro's wives. When she passed away I found some letters & a death notice of a bro Edward whom I had never heard of. There are a couple of photos that must be of her family. Neither of my parents spoke about family & I never knew a relative. When I was 15 my father took us to Toronto, Can to meet his Polish parents & I can't trace them. So it has been exciting to hear from you. Thanks again.
Frances

Hi Teri, Thanks
Those Brasseur you are researching are the "New England Brasseurs" and are before my original line in Quebec 1757-1765) The Pierre I am trying to research is a great great uncle (Brasseur-Beauchamp) that relocated to the Upper Michigan area...I was trying to confirm that He is the one and the same that came here to this area Tiny Township, Simcoe County, Ontario) with his parents and other family cica 1863...My research shows he farmed in this area for a few years then left...I think I traced him to the Upper Michigan area but havent been able to get exact confirmation if he is one in the same...alot of simalarities in names/dates but would like to get thier background b4 I feel he is one in the same family. It probaly is but it would be nice to have some one there to confirm his settlment history from Quebec to Michigan. Art
