Re: Andrew J. & William N. Braswell, Polk Co.Tx.

I know this was posted 9 years ago, but I just recently found this family. I think William Nicholas Braswell was married to Mary Elizabeth Hinson, my ggg-grandmother's sister. My ggg-grandmother was Nancy Caroline Hinson, w/o Miles Sessions Parker, d/o William Marion Hinson and Nancy Northcutt.
I found the Braswell's in the 1900 Falls County, TX census, with Mary as a widow, having given birth to 9 children with 7 living at that time. I went back through the censuses to 1880 Brazos County, TX and found her with William and 2 children. Going from 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 I found her living with various children and have compiled the following names for children, in no particular order of birth:
William Andrew, Edward George, Emma, Bettie, Walter, Aaron, Joseph B, Alice H and Robert Henry. Do any of these names mean anything to you?
Looking forward to hearing from you
Cassandra K Wade [Parker descendant]

Kindred Braswell - Kenneth Braswell? 1840 Barbour Co AL

Looking for any info on a "Kenneth Brasswell (sic)" who was patented 160.42 acres from Montgomery Alabama Land Office on 10 Oct 1840 in Barbour Co Al...NW 1/4 Sec 8 T9-N R29E...

This Kenneth's land was located next to the land of William Brasswell (sic)/Brazzil b ca 1798 in SC/NC...William patented 160.42 acres from Montgomery Office 10 April 1837...NE 1/4 Sec 8 T9-N R29-E...this appears it was no accident that they lived next neighbors...

Then on 15 June 1854 a Henry Brasswell patented 40.17 acres of land nearby in N Fraction of Sec 24 T9-n R28-E...Henry was possibly a son of Kenneth(?) as William had moved to Harrison Co Tx by this time and had no son named Henry.

I am curious if there were any known "Kenneth Braswell"/Brassel etc men during this time period in Ga/Al/SC area...or if possibly any descendants of the various Kendred Braswells can place any of these men in this area at this time. If I can ID this Kenneth(?) it would likely go a long way toward carrying my William Brazzil line back another generation. Any help or leads appreciated.

Hello Gary,
I am descended from a William Britt b. ca 1760, d. 1812 in Edgecomb Co. NC. Married unknown woman and had my gg grandfather Braswell Britt. Braswell is too unusual a first name to pull out of thin air. Perhaps a connection to your Mary Braswell b. c 1777 who is 7 yrs Williams junior and the about the right age for a bride. It's also unlikely that Braswell had no siblings, perhaps John J. Britt is one of them. John J. would be about 12 years older than Braswell who was born c1810. Do you know the names of your William Britt's descendants?
Matthew Britt

I am researching for my sister-in-law. Her great-grandmother was Arthusa Braswell who married Timothy Prichard probably in DeKalb Co, TN. She was born in 1859 in TN. Her husband must have died before she did, as an old woman, she would visit her daughter in Tillman Co, OK. She is thought to be buried in Tillman County. Any information appreciated.

They signed next to John HUNT , later , I believe, of Greenville County South Carolina (See 1790 Census). My interest is in John HUNT, but I believe these families may have traveled together. Any info on origin of HUNT or Braswell is welcome.

Hi John,

My ancestors are Solomon Braswell - Rachel Bird of Edgecombe NC. Their daughter, Mary Braswell born c1777 married William Britt of Edgecombe NC. Their son, John J. Britt b1798 Edgecombe NC is my ancestor. John J. was in Jasper GA 1820, Talbot GA 1830 and Sumter GA 1840. Some Braswell names pop up in those GA counties around the times he was there, and I suspect they may be related.

One tree I received from a researcher (don't recall who now) lists James Braswell b1766 and died 1821 (no details shown). That tree had some errors though.

Did your James Braswell ancestor live in GA when he died?

Thanks,
Gary Carson
Hi Irish, I don't believe this is our line but I would be
interested in finding someone in the Richard and Penelope line that has done extensive family research. Do you happen to know who this person would be and how I could contact him/her? Thank you for your input.

Thanks for the input G.K. None of the ones you mentioned
seem to connect. The ones I'm looking for came first to Burke county in Ga. from North Carolina and later moved to Larens county. A cousin of mine did the DNA test and that was very helpful since we couldn't find any records on Richard and Agnes.

Thank you Irish. I believe from my research, there's a clear paper trail of Richard and Penelope back to NC and possibly back to Rev. Robert Bracewell. What would be very helpful to know is, has any of the descendants of Richard and Penelope taken the 37 marker DNA test. If so, could you provide me with that persons name so I can compare his DNA with my cousin Melvin Hubert Bracewell. Since I'm not a direct male descendant, I sponsored Hubert and we want to figure this out. If there is a person, could you also provide me with an ancestry chart. This could help establish a link or disprove a link.

Bill

Would you put me in touch with other family members who might remember John Marion?? Does your grandmother remember ancestors?? Perhaps you could see what she remembers about celebrating holidays or birthdays or who came to visit, etc., etc. Could give some clues.
Bless you for taking care of her at this time of her life.

I have a birthdate of either 22 Oct 1832 in Decatur, AL or 1832 in South Carolina. He died 22 Sep 1912 in Decatur. Father was William Braswell married to Mary Leeper. I have a list of only 8 names for chilren from 1856 to 1878.

I have more syblings if this sounds like the correct Braswell.

Are you tracing through Cecelia or some other line?? I have no further information on John Maron other than his father William born May 30,1809 in S.C., died June 24, 1883 in Morgan County, AL. Married Mary (Cooper, Looper, Leeper I have conflicting names).

Do you have other information on John Marion you would be willing to share?? Do you have a tree on Ancestry or elsewhere??It is my understanding that once the connection is made to William Braswell, the geneology goes back to 1522, or so I've been told.

William,

Sorry, but the RICHARDs BRASWELL in Greenville District, SC, in 1790 are firmly accounted for and have no close connection with the Laurens County, Georgia, Bracewells (by whatever spelling variant). They were never in Georgia according to surviving records.

There have been numerous well-meaning attempts to assign these RICHARDs elsewhere but all have failed= the papertrail, while thin, does place them in Wilkes County, NC before 1786 and in Anderson County, Tennessee after 1799. Kidnapping plots on the senior RICHARD's son VALENTINE have also been repeatedly foiled.

You might look for your HUNTs in Orange/Chatham County, NC.
That's where my BRASWELLs lived prior to moving to 'Baptist Fork' on Little River where Rev. Philip Mulkey had a Baptist commune before 1759. Many left the area after the Battle of Alamance (1771). Others, like my Braswell, held on until Cornwallis landed in Charleston (1780), after which they took refuge in the foothills in Wilkes County, NC because they had been involved in the Regulators.
