POW/MIA Korean War BRAUER

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Macoupin County, Illinois as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ELDRED LOUIS BRAUER
Born: 1928 Caucasian
Date of loss: August 8, 1951 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Brauer family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (78 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Brauer Furth, Germany/Brower Macomb County, Michigan

Looking for information on Frederick Brauer/Fred Brower b. 1845 in Furth, Germany and died in 1925 in Mount Clemens, Macomb County, Michigan. He was married to Wilhelmina/Minnie Doughfort or Ducko in Germany. The family, to include three children (Frederick b: Abt. 1864 Germany, Minnie/Wilhelmina b: Abt. 1866 Germany, William 1869 Germany) imigrated to USA between 1869 and 1872. The Brauer family name was used in the USA until about 1900 when the clan changed it to Brower.

Peter H Brauer

I am looking for information on ancestors of Peter H. Brauer, born in 1869 in Mt. Olive Illinois, death in Johnson County, Nebraska in 1941. (obit attached).

Peter married Rachel Efers, and had seven children; Carolyn, Herman, Deloma, Diedrich, Telva, Thomas, and Delia. Peter's marriage certificate lists his father's name as Thomas Brauer.

There is some possibility that Peter was born in Germany, as I have an immigration record, but his obit identifies birth place as Illinois.

Hi Scott,

I know just one generation back from Jacob Konrad Bauer. His father and mother were Nikol Bauer and Anna Margaretha Unglaub Bauer. Nikol lived in Stockenroth, Germany at the time of his wedding, where he was a master weaver. According to the people I met there when we visited a few years ago, a master weaver of that time would have worked from his home rather than in a mill, and agents would have come to pick up the woven fabric from him. This is in northern Bavaria.

Johann Heibel and Johanna Bauer Heibel are my great-grandparents. My grandfather was Christopher Heibel, brother of Margaret, who was, I think, your great grandmother. Christopher Heibel married Mary Malady and had my mother, Doris Heibel.

Johann and Johanna are buried in a cemetery in Moosup, CT, though the only stone there in a family plot is for the previous generation, Johann and Katerina Heibel, parents of John Nicholas (Johann) They died within months of each other in 1893.

Thanks for responding to the query. If you have anything to share, I'm all ears.

German National, but we do not know where he was born or when he emigrated to England from Germany or wherever. Died in London 1895. Wife of Elizabeth Ann (nee Potter). 5 Children, Richard, Marie, Gustav, Hermann ('Bert') and Tom.

We know nothing about this man and I cannot find any records. One of his sons, 'Dick' emigrated to the USA.

Richard Brauer was a jeweller/watchmaker when he died. His widow eventually changed her named to Brewer in 1919.

If any one has any knowledge of where he came from opriginally or anyone connected to his German origins it would be wonderful to hear from you. Thanks

Janet (Richard's great granddaughter)

Boy, I doubt if there is any connection. I have had further research done in Brandenburg, and it appears "my" Brauers were literally poor migrant farmer types... all the more reason to immigrate. The only relatives of my line that I know of settled in Macomb county, Michigan.
If I come up with anything else, I'll let you know
Mark

I am curious about your Charlotte Brauer though as Charles could have come from her line somewhere. Do you have anything else in your notes?

I have some information about descendants of two Brauer cousins, Heinrich and David. Heinrich emigrated in 1846 with his brother Philipp to Baltimore from Marburg, Hesse. I do not know when David immigrated. Both Henry (Heinrich) Brauer and David Brauer were butchers who operated stalls in the Bel Air and Centre markets in Baltimore. David and his family later ran a grocery store on Harford Road in Balitmore. According to my research at least some descendants of both Heinrich and David lived (and some might still live) in Baltimore. Please contact me off list to compare notes.

I have a copy of the marriage license as well as the return of a marriage to county clerk for "Enno and Katie Tjaden Brauer". They were married at the parsonage by Rev D.M. Ficken, pastor of St Peter's Lutheran church near Benson, Linn Township, Woodford Co, Illinois 5 March 1909. Enno's father is listed on the return of marriage as Enno Gommels and his mother as Geske Fischer. Katie's parents are listed as Tjade Tjaden and Hiemke Schmidt. Kate was baptized Gertje Tjaden at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil, Nebraska (the town where she lived the first two years of her life) but always went by Kate and Katie. If you're interested in a scan of the marriage license, Keith, send me your email addy. I'd like to know where Enno's roots were - likely in Ostfriesland?

Amy Robbins-Tjaden
atjaden@mindspring.com

Harold had 3 siblings that we know of Craig, Eva Gene and Roland. Mazie and Harold were married in about 1911 I believe in Buffalo NY
Julius was married to Agnes Wilson in about 1892. Any info on these families would be appreciated. I know Harold left the family never to be heard of again. I would like to find anyone that may be related to him thru perhaps a second marriage.

Hi,

I'm posting this reply a long time after your original message, so I don't know if you're still looking at this site, but just in case. My Brauer ancestors also arrived in the U.S. via Baltimore. I don't know a lot about them accept that they had lived in Baltimore for 3 or more generations before my father was born, George Frederick Brauer in 1933. I think he told me he was named after another George Frederick in his family, but I don't remember how they were related. I haven't yet requested a copy of his birth certificate, so I don't even know his parents names. Anyway, he told me that his father's family had owned factories in Germany and had sent some family members here with business interests in mind. I don't know how factual that is because my father was orphaned at a pretty young age. Do you have any information that might be related to my father's family?

Thanks

I requested a death certificate for the person I thought was my great grandfather, William Brauer; but it turned out to be another William Brauer. I'm posting the information found on this death certificate.
William Brauer was born in Germany on September 2,1849. Both the names of his father and mother are marked as "Unknown" on the death certificate, but it indicated they were both born in Germany as well. Mr. Brauer's wife's name was Mary Brauer, and at the time of his death they had resided at 3801 Belle Plaine Ave. in Chicago, Ill.; he had been at that residence for 4 years at the time of his death. He had resided in the State of Illinois for 28 years. His occupation had been a Plasterer (retired). He died from Pernicious anemia due to a chronic goiter and Enteritis. Secondary cause was Hypostatic pneumonia. He was buried at Eden Cemetery on 5/23/1918.

Can't Find "Brauer"? Try "Braner"

I knew that my great grandfather Wilhelm (William) Brauer married and died in Chicago in the early part of the 20th century, but I couldn't find a record in the Illinois Death and Marriage index. I finally found both the marriage and death record under the last name of "Braner". When I ordered copies of death and marriage license, they were both written in long hand by different persons and either could be interpreted as "Braner" of "Brauer". Illinois records show a number of people listed under the "Braner" surname, but I couldn't find any record of their being a surname of "Braner". I'm assming most of the people listed as "Braner" are actually "Brauer".
