Isaac J. Brawley, born 24 Oct 1822 in Pennsylvania, is my 3rd great-grandfather. I know the Brawley's went through Indian, but one of the census entries said Isaac was born in Penn. I don't have info on his parents by do have info on his wife and their children. The youngest child, Leona May married James Washington Munday and they raised their children around Severy and Climax, KS. I would love to swap info, we are obviously looking at the same person and I guess I've found another cousin!

Agens Brawley, Russell County, VA

I am trying to find any information the Agnes Brawley who signed an agreement for maintenance in her old age with John Alexander Jr. in 1843 in Russell County, VA. Most Alexander researchers believe that she is the husband of the elderly James Brawley who is listed as living with the same John Alexander Jr. in the 1850 census of Russell County, VA. However, while I believe that she is related to this James Brawley, I do not believe that she is his wife. The argument everyone gives is that because he was not able to care for her, she entered into an agreement for such care with John Alexander. However, neither today's laws nor the laws of that time would allow a wife to enter a contract that effectively gives up what would in essence be community property and under the control of the husband. If she is James Brawley's wife, then his name should appear on teh document. Such, however, is not the case. Hence, I believe she is another Brawley related to John Alexander Jr and his family. Any info anyone has on her or the Brawleys of Russell County, VA, in the 1840s would be most appreciated.

I am looking for info. on my family and history. My dad is Omer H. Brawley, born in Long Beach, Ca. My grandfather was born 1906 in Lorena, Tx. Grew up in Comanche,TX., died in 1999 in Whitney,TX. He was born to Hammon Clark and Jane Emaline (McGehee) Brawley. Married to Ethel M. Brown. He had two brothers, Omer (I believe he lived in ARK.)and I think the others name was Lollie (could have been a nickname I'm not sure) and one sister, I knew her as aunt Georgie, she lived in Duncan, OK. We live in CA. I love my family and I am proud of our name, we are honest, hardworking, honorable, respectable and successful people who love and trust in the Lord, I really would like to know more about our heritage, etc. My granddad use to say there are two kinds of people in this world, Brawley's and people who wanted to be Brawley's!

(George) Walton Bralley was born December 25, 1912 in Kingsport, Sullivan County, TN and died April 30, 1976 in Kingsport, Sullivan County, TN. He was my dad's cousin. Please contact me at embralley@comcast.net for detailed information on him and his family, as well a picture of him taken with his grandmother about 1920 on her porch. He is the one "mystery" figure in our tree that I've never been able to trace very well. He's buried in the cemetery of the Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Kingsport, TN. Tell me how you fit into the tree?

Hi Shawn, I just got your reply. My relatives in California are originally from Long Beach, that's where my grandfather moved to back around the 1930's from Texas. My dad also had a cousin in Torrance, CA. named Jack Brawley. From there my dad and grandparents had moved to Hanford, CA. Hanford is where my dad and his sister lived growing up. My parents, brothers and I grew up in Merced,CA. My family and I had alsomet some other Brawley's in the San Joaquin Valley. I'm curious about your family, where abouts in CA. are you from?

The Brawley's I am looking for came to Illinois in the 1850's Mike Brawley married there, His parents had not made it from Ireland, they died trying to make the crossing in 1848. Have you found this story in your research? They came from Dublin if this helps.
Nora

Hi, I am probably butting in here, but I am a Brawley too, only I don't live in America but in Scotland. You probably know that the Brawley name comes from Ireland and means a pretty field, altough there is some dispute that it is hillslope field but I prefer the first one. My dad was born here in Scotland his name was Charles, but his father came directly from Ireland and he was James Brawley. The name seems widespread in the US, here it is confined pretty much to Ireland with the odd one here and there throughout Britain. It seems pretty clear that most of the US Brawley's are descended from the Irish Brawley's and further back than the great Irish migration as well, and there was some talk about the Brawley lineage being quite noble so it maybe that migration started very early to the US - it would be interesting to know. Anyway the reason for my post is to say, that I agree totally with your Dad.

Karen (nee Brawley)Wotherspoon

I checked through the Brawley information that I have and didn't see any mention of a Jane Brawley. I am descended from John Brawley b. 7/16/1789 and Easter Dickey b. 2/20/1790. They lived in Rutherford, Tennessee before moving to Illinois and then to Missouri. They had 9 children, but none named Jane, that I am aware of. John Brawley had 3 brothers, Levi b. 1797, Hugh b. 1799, and Prior b. 1802. Perhaps one of them is the father of Jane. They were born in North Carolina and I don't know if they all came to Tennessee, like John did. I hope this is of help to you.
Georgianna

I don't know if our Brawleys are related, but I liked your query and would like to help you if I can. I'm a Christian Californian born in Long Beach, so we have somethings in common. Two of my great grandmothers had the maiden name of Brawley. They were Mary Ann Brawley and Isabelle Minerva Brawley. They were both from Reynolds County, Missouri, and their Brawley family had been in Tennessee and North Carolina before that. I can provide more information about my Brawley line, if you think it might help in your Brawley search.

I have a few photos of him, one of him and I, and one he told me was of his daughter MISTY DAWN, she is holding a small dog in the photo. If anyone knows where MISTY DAWN BRAWLEY is please let her know I have some photos of her dad I want to get to her. I think I may still have her original social security card also. Donnie had it in with all his old papers. I am pretty sure I still have it. Donnie talked a lot about Misty and even wrote a poem about her. Would love to get that to her also.
Also searching this line. John, Hugh, probably James and Thomas came with mother Agnes and settled in Rowan County, NC. in 1750 (abt) Brother William stayed behind to dispose of family property and came some say in 1769. John was well known figure in early Rowan County. There is reason to believe Agnes is buried in Rowan County. Fathers name is unknown. I have heard Hugh and also William. He probably died in Ireland before the wife and sons left. Hugh was a very popular first name in this family so that is a possibility.
