Richard Burriss

I am looking for information on the parents of Richard Burriss, and also where the family came from before they settled in Birr, King's Co. Ireland. He was born in 1786 (not sure where) and died in 1842 in King's Co Ireland. He is buried in Templeharry Churchyard. He married Harriett Hackett, but I don't know where. He bought Ballintemple Estate in King's Co, Ireland. He was known to have lived in Hollytown, Birr before he bought Ballintemple, and may have been connected to the local distilling and brewing industry. Most of his children were christened in Birr Church.

The Thomas Brawn who is my ancestor, came to Canada from Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, after 1900. He was born in that village in 1883. Your Brawn family may be related, however I find no connection in my records. Thank you however, for your posting.

I am another of the descendants of Thomas Brawn, who settled in Wainfleet Township, in what became the Dominion of Canada, before 1971. If you go to the 1871 Census of Canada, you will find a head of household index published to the census of that year. Thomas appears in Censuses until about 1881. His grandson Clarence Russell appears in the 1891 Census of Canada for Wainfleet. Thomas Brawn was a baker in Raunds, Northamptonshire in England. If you type Raunds, and Brawn into a search engine you will find more. A freind searched more about Thomas and found he was married or born in Wellingsboro. Ancestry has references to these materials. I am told that the Thomas who came out to Canada in the 1850s or 1860s had family in New York State, and when he came across the pond found there was little available land there, but could find some in Wainfleet. There is a historical atlas of Ontario published in 1871 which shows a lot of land on the Feeder Canal, which was a link to the welland canal. There are Thomas Brawns, listed in your social security register in the united States for the area around buffalo. Thomas' wife, Susan lived until about 1901 or 1911, and is mentioned living with the Haun family in wainfleet. She was a Grandmother. Some of these Canadian Cenuses have birthplace addresses. I think that is the 1911. Anyway that is what I can remember without pulling my file folder from the filing cabinet. There is a Canadian soldier in a British commonwealth Cemetery near Ypres, H. Brawn. His parents are from around Huntington in England. I Don't know if this can help you connect the dots. Thomas had a number of children after he arrived in Canada.

I have another Ruby that sounds more like who you were looking for, now that I re-read your message. My apologies. Hopefully my last message still has helpful info although not what you were looking for directly. I believe this Ruby, also in our history, is the right one...

An Arthur Tompkins and Mary Shaw had a daughter Damaries (sp?), born abt. 1857, married Henry Brawn.

Then Damaries (sp?) and Henry Brawn had a daughter Ruby, born 1894 & who married Leon Craig from Mars Hill... I have knowledge of only one daughter, Violet, born in Easton

I should have also mentioned that Rhoda J Braun Frank is daughter of the Charlie/Detroit that you mentioned. And George Herbert her grandfather.

My info on Olla Roxilla (Braun) Keetch is b 22 DEC 1891 in Marysville, York County, New Brunswick and married William Keetch of Woodstock, NB on September 28, 1910. She passed away October 21, 1959. Children: Herbert, Gregory, Sybil... does this sound correct? Thank you.

Hello! The homestead in Millville NB was my families, I can provide you with everything. Up until recently there has only been two compilations covering this: Rhoda J (Braun) Frank published some and a John Goodwin also made his researches available to the Provincial Archives of New Brusnwick (PANB). Their work doesnt extend much past the George Herbert you are speaking of, of whom I descend.

I have almost 10 years, on and off, of research coming out that encompasses and surpasses the works mentioned above, yet owing great thanks to them. Where they had brickwalled, assumed or left open for speculation, I have verified and documented. We now have the history of the family in New Brunswick commencing at 1761 (pre-Loyalist era) in Maugerville New Brunswick (Nova Scotia then) among the first grants on the Saint John river and the first english speaking settlers on the river. This work will be made available to PANB and Libraries and be published & available in some areas.

Fifty plus years after this, your George Herbert was the grandson of John Brawn (Sr.) and Margaret Ann (Saunders) Brawn, married Dec 26, 1822.

Contact me anytime for the full info, brawn@live.ca (goes for anyone)

Have a great day!

Hello Thomas:

Thank you for much for the message re: Thomas and Charlotte. I don't think there is a connection though with my Thomas. Our Thomas was one of about four brothers and one cousin who emigrated to Canada in the early part of the last century. All remained in Canada (one died in the war) but Thomas went to the U.S. Niagara region and raised his family there- never returning to live in Canada.
Thanks, though, for replying to the posting. You will see other postings referring to our Thomas and thanks to them I was able to plug a big hole in my family tree. So, these postings are a great thing.
Good luck with your search! stephanie brawn

I am Thomas Howard Brawn aged 51, from Ottawa, Ontario. I don't know alot about it, but Thomas Edward Brawn would have been my great grandfather I think. He settled in Wainfleet, Ontario. I was was born to Howard (from Wainfleet) and Jenny (Waterford)Brawn in Port Colborne, Ontario in 1957. Thomas Edward Brawn was laid to rest in a cemetery at Morgan's Point, Ontario. I think he was born in in 1815. I think he came to Canada via New York State, from England originally.

I've managed to get back to roughly 1811, with Edwin Brawn but I'm struggling to get any further.

Edwin was a butcher in Lichfield Street Wolverhampton. His wife's name was Elizabeth. They had a number of children, including William from whom I am descended. I think Edwin died between 1841 and 1851.

Does anyone know anything about Edwin, or know who his parents were?

Hi Ingrid,

I'm sorry to say that I haven't done any more research on this line since I posted my first query! I've gotten wrapped up working on other lines.

Here is my line of descent from Moses Busiel & Relief Brawn:

William M. Busiel m. Marilla Boynton (my 2g-grandparents)
William Joseph Busiel m. Alice Elizabeth Pierre
Annie Adele Busiel m. Harold Edward Richmond

My mother is the daughter of Annie Busiel & Harold Richmond.

As I said, I haven't really done any more research on Moses and Relief. However, my mother is in possession of a oil portrait that she was always told was Moses Busiel. I'd be happy to e-mail you a scan of it, if you'd like!

You can e-mail me directly at judya at hal-pc.org.

Judy Anthony
Houston, Texas

Hi Donna, Not to my knowledge.

My earliest Brawn was born in Sandhurst, Gloucestershire 1810, he married a lady from Herefordshire and they settled there. They had 2 children, James (my great, great, grandfather) and Susan.

James married Hannah Turner from Hereford then and they had three children, Mary Ann Brawn b. 1865 and Elizabeth b. 1867 both born in Mutherne, Monmouthshire. James and Hannah moved to Woolton, nr Liverpool and their son James was born in 1874 in Woolton.

In 1876 Hannah died and James senior remarried a Margaret Jones b. Poynton, Cheshire. They had a son Harold b. 1881 Woolton,Liverpool.

Unforntunately, after their mother died I can't find any sign of the 2 girls, Mary Ann and Elizabeth, at all in any census record, although James junior stayed with his father and step-mother.

I haven't done any research into James junior or Harold yet but it's possible that one of them might have emigrated.

Do any of the names above match your records? If so, contact me again.

Looking for information on William Kerswell(Kaswell),born 1804, and Susan J. Brawn, born 1815, both in Maine. They were married on 09 Sep 1846 in Bangor, Maine. They are on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses for Glenburn, Maine. I have been researching one of their children, Henry A. (or L.) Kerswell, born 1859. I believe he may be my g grandfather who married Affie E. Annis in Bradford, ME on 19 Oct 1887. They had one child, my grandfather, Truman W. Annis (legal name change), born on 25 Dec 1888. Affie died in childbirth and my grandfather was raised by his maternal grandmother. He never met his father. If you have any more information about the family I would be very interested.
