It appears my colorful great-great grandfather, George Washington Brayman (or any other way you spell it)gave two different states of birth on censuses: 1) New Jersey, and 2) Pennsylvania. Born in 1829, he died in Iowa in 1904 and indicated he didn't know who his parents were. During the Civil War he served in the Pennsylvania 71st regiment, married Sarah Griffith and had several children including Adell, George Kirkpatrick and Linn (M). I am stuck on the parentage issue. One thing I know is that his is defininately not the son of Daniel and Lorinda Brayman of New York. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks so much.
