Hoping to prove that this Richard Brown is my 2nd great grandfather who has eluded us for decades! I find a Richard Brown in the 1860 Anderson, Mendocino, CA census listed as born in VT and living with Margaret Brown and a BRAYTON family (Albert father). I found his tombstone with death date of 24 July 1860 in Mendocino Co., CA.
My Richard's son, Benjamin Franklin married Lucinda BRAYTON in 1868 in Rock Island Co., IL. Also there has been speculation over the years of research that the BRAYTON and BROWN family had ties for generations. My BRAYTON ancestors were in Clarendon, Rutland, VT in the mid - late 1700's.
So with these connections, I am hoping that this CA Richard is my Richard!
Hope someone can help.
