Karen, what you are telling me may be more helpful then you think. Until I get things narrowed down enough to request vital records from different places, I have only deduction and the process of elimination. For instance, I know my gr-grandfather Lucas was from Cocagne, I found him on the 1920 US Census where his age is listed as 70, this would mean he would have been born in 1849-1850. Since the Charles and Marguerite you listed were married in 1848, this looks very promising.
If you would, could you check the registers you have and look for a marriage between Lucas Breau and Marie-Judule or Judtih Martin. My best guess for their marriage would be between 1865-1882. This may verify Lucas's parents. I realize this is a large time span so if you wouldn't have the time, I fully understand.
Also, could you tell me how to get a copy of the book you have? Thank you for your help. Herv Breault
