This is indirect information about Emma Brechbill,
Winfield Scott Hershey 1904-1949 Akron, Summit, Ohio

I am sharing information about Winfield Scott Hershey. I mistakenly thought he was in my family line, but now know that he is not. Since I've already done the research, I thought I would post it before I delete it from my database. The below is all I have. (Emma included below.)

Kind Regards,
Joyce Zachman

Winfield Scott Hershey, b. 3 Oct 1904 Canton, Stark, Ohio, d. 15 Sep 1949 Akron, Summit, Ohio from myocardial infarction, complicated by diabetes. He was the s/o *Clarence S. Hershey & *Emma Brechbill. (Ohio death certificate 58660)

Winfield's sibs were (US Census records 1910, 1920, 1930):

1. (last name unknown) around 1937. They purchased a home at 1198 Magnolia Ave, Akron, Ohio and it appears they lived there until their deaths; certainly Winfield did.

Winfield graduated from North High School, Akron, Ohio, class of 1925 (North High School http://www.northhighviking.com). He was secretary of the company in 1933 and president of the company at the time of his death in 1949 (Death cert).

Winfield and Helen had a daughter, Marilyn Rose Hershey (Akron directories 1954/55 & 1956/57), who graduated from North High School, Akron, Ohio, class of 1956 (North High School).

Helen never remarried. She was born about Aug 1909 in Akron and died 19 May 1988 in Akron (Ohio Death certificate 040053).

*Clarence S.

Samuel L Brechbill, b. 1839 in PA; lived in Missouri 1860's-1870's; moved to MT about 1880; died 1911 in Ravalli Co, MT. In his bio - mentions serving in Civil War. I finally found a reference. With all the spellings of this name it makes for some interesting searching. He's listed in the book: "Missouri Confederate Surrender, 1865, Shreveport & New Orleans" by Carolyn M. Bartels. Britchbill, S. L. Rank: Pvt; Regt: Williams Cav,; Company: B; County: Callaway. Williams Cavalry was part of Jackman's Brigade commanded by Col. Sidney D. Jackman under Sterling Price's command.
I "hook on" to this family somewhere. My 3x great grandfather Peter Breakbill was born in Lancaster Co, PA in 1760. He fought in the Rev. war, then migrated to East TN in 1796. The spelling changed to BRAKEBILL abt 100 years ago. Peter had a brother Phillip, who is mentioned in Peter's Pension application. The name BRECHBUHL is still a common one in Switzerland.

I'm not sure at all that the above Christian is my ancestor. I got the data on his family many years ago, from a lady in Michigan, Phyllis Brechbiel Hanson. We tried to find a viable connection between our 2 families, but gave up--unable to do so. The only "solid" info I have re my ancestry beyond a Peter Breakbill, bn 1760 in Lancaster County, PA is in his Revolutionary war pension application. He mentions a brother Phillip and an Uncle Peter. Also an Adam Haber, who was probably a neighbor. Others have listed Peter's ancestry back several generations into Switzerland, but I am not certain about it. We believe Peter's father and possibly grandfather landed in Philadelphia in 1732, on the ship "John & William". Peter came to Tennessee in 1796, and has a very large body of descendants who, for the most part, spell the name as I do.

I'll admit I am totally confused re the early Brakebill / Brechbiel / Brackbill / Brechbuehler name. The many spellings seem to make it impossible to tie them together with any confidence. I will e-mail you directly (if I can) with what I have. Understand that I am not at all sure of its accuracy. I feel sure, however, that we are related, somehow.
Thanks

My roots go back to the Brechbuhl name, also. I'm not at all certain that my data is right, but I have Anna Steiner (husband given name not known) with children (all surnames spelled BRECHBUEHLER) Madleni (f-bn 1706), Christian (m-bn 1710-my ancestor?), Benedict (m-bn1712), Anna (f-bn 1715), & Hans (m-bn1720)

Did your Brechbill ancestors settle in Muskingum County? Contact me at pat103pic@aol.com

A tombstone seen in the Union Dale Cemetery, Division One, unknown section, Pittsburgh PA, Allegheny County:

Phoebe BRECHBILL, 1839 - 1881

It was such an unusual name I thought I'd put it online, hoping it may help someone. I have no other info as it is not my line.
