I am looking for information on a Mary Breakiron married to a Job Sidwell. She was born about 1826 near Easton, Monongalia, Virginia. She died on 16 Mar 1855. She was married to Job Sidwell on 10 Feb 1843 in Monongalia County, Virginia. I have her father as a Jacob Breakiron married to an Elsie or Ailsey Howard and her grandfather as Frederick Breakiron. Can anyone tell me if this connects to Johann Friedrich Brecheisen (Breakiron)? Thank you so much for your help.<br><br>Tammy Ness

My Aunt Dorothy McCusker md. Charles Leslie Wilson, and we all knew him as Uncle Cub. His father, Leo Wilson, md. Hattie Breakiron. I don't think Hattie was her given name because I can't find a record of here anywhere, and I cannot find any birth or death dates which correspond with what Aunt Dot told me for a Harriet or anything close to Hattie. Leo was the son of Charles Wilson, who was the son of Leslie Wilson; thus, the name Charles Leslie Wilson. Uncle Cub died of heart failure in 1968; his mother passed away a couple of years later in 1970 or thereabouts. Leo passed away before Uncle Cub; Leo and Hattie made their home in Smithfield, PA. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about Hattie like her given name, birth date, etc. Uncle Cub had the following siblings: Franklin, O.J., Ruth, Marie, Mary, and a couple of other girls, but I don't know their names.<br><br>Marsha

Hello Jim -- I am a 5th generation descendant of Peter Brecheisen I (5D8). Our Family History Book explains the origin of the Brecheisen name as follows: The Brecheisen name is of Teutonic origin and means "Breakiron" in English. The name originated from a nickname or work order in an old smithy where it was the custom to give the young smith-fellows surnames containing an order. In the case of Brecheisen, the order was "Brech-das-eisen," or, "Break up the iron." ... The surname Brecheisen was founded in 1587 when Jacobus Brecheysen of Uttenweiler, Wurttemberg, Germany adopted it as his family name. Hope you find this information helpful in your search. Regards, Jan

Could someone please explain to me the origin of<br>these names. Eisen is German for iron. Brecher<br>is breaker. Brecheisen doesn't seem to compute.<br>Eisenbrecher which means iron breaker is a known<br>German name. Possibly an old name for a<br>blacksmith or forger. I have a Breakiron ancestor.

John George is my 3rd.great grandfather. Johann Georg Brecheisen (John George "George" Breakiron) was born Sept. 11, 1786 in Jaegerthal, Alsace, France according to Eoropean records or 1782, according to his headstone. ...He died Feb. 10, 1872 and is buried in old Frame Presbyterian Cemetery, Fayette Co., PA. He settled in Nicholson twp with his wife Hannah Ganoe, who was born June 18, 1783 in N.J.; died Apr. 1, 1864 near Smithfield, PA and is buried in the same cemetery. George worked as an iron forgeman and later rented a farm. In his old age he lived with his son, Jacob. According to hearsay they had ten children, but there are records of only five. The others may have died young. This information is from the Breakiron Family History, by Jane Breakiron Liston and Lee A. Breakiron,Ph.D. Please e-mail me and tell me of your connection. I have a photo of John George and Hannah. If you would like I'll email you a copy.

I believe the following relates to "Icie" Breakiron, although there is no reference to that being her nickname. This is from the Breakiron Family History by Jane Breakiron Liston and Lee A. Breakiron, PhD. 1995:<br>"Isa Dora 'Dorothy' Breakiron was born Aug. 13, 1880; died of a perforated ulcer Jan. 30, 1954; and was interred in the Jefferson Cemetery. Her husband Walter Rueben 'Rueben' Reynolds was a salesman from Rices Landing, Greene co., where he is buried. They had three children. Dorothy divorced Rueben on the grounds of desertion. She ran a millinery shopin her home in Jefferson and later in Irwin, PA, where she moved in 1924. There she married W. Clyde Ashbaugh, who died in 1947. They lived at 417 Walnut St, Vandergrift, PA." Isa Dora was the daughter of Ashabel F. "Ash" Breakiron, born May 10, 1844 in Smithfield and died Aug. 6, 1920 and Hannah Rhodes born June 6, 1843 and died April 20, 1904. Hope this helps.
Louis Brecheisen, Civil War Vet

I am interested in establishing my relationship to Louis Brecheisen. He may be the maternal grandfather of either Alice Shannon, Jane Henry, or Mary Ellen Gibson, ancestors to whom I have established my relationship. I have an old newspaper clipping that states that he was a Civil War veteran, a member of Lombard Post No. 170 of the G.A.R., and that he was buried in the North Bay Cemetery. I cannot put a date or a location to the newspaper article. I know this isn't much to go on, but am hoping the being a Civil War veteran is enough to go on. Unfortunately, Civil War databases are apparently incomplete and have yielded nothing. Any clues are appreciated.

Lewis Brecheisen

Thank you for the information, Charles! I would appreciate any additional information you have. Please e-mail me at <a href="mailto://superkins@aol.com">superkins@aol.com</a>; I will give you my mailing address, but I prefer not to post it here. I believe Lewis's second marriage was to Mary Gibson (got the name from a search on Familysearch.com) but am still not sure how he would be related to my g-g-grandmother, Mary Ellen Gibson--not the same person as Mary Gibson, perhaps a generation older. I was thinking a step-father, but it doesn't quite fit that data either. Thank you again.

Lewis Brecheisen

Thanks to information from Charles Brecheisen, I have determined that Lewis Brecheisen was married to Mary Ellen Gibson Corfman, widow of Benjamin Gibson and mother of my great, great grandmother, Mary Ellen Gibson. Thus, Lewis Brecheisen was Mary Ellen Gibson's step-father.

Hi Patricia. I have been studying our Lineage Chart and can not find what you are looking for. Our chart starts with Hans Michel Brecheisen, born circa 1676 and only covers his descendents from the Nehweiler-Woerth section of the Alsace area. Regards, Charles.

I am also looking for information on the Breakiron family. My great great grandmother was Mary Margaret Breakiron (a descendant of Frederick Brecheisen). Does anyone have the information about Frederick's son John George Brecheisen b.1782?
