Hello second cousin once removed!
I'm glad you picked up my message. Given your initial posting was 2008 I wasn't sure if you would!
My date of birth is 30/03/1982, born Ealing London.
Not certain on other dates, but I will pass the info on to Mum and see if she can fill in any gaps. Might also be able to check with Dad's brother who may be interested too.
I would be very interested to see other details you have.
I'm only on here as a free trial so will send you a quick email as well, as I see your address is included in your post.
All the best
Tessa
Hello,
I wonder if you are still working on this family tree. Derek and Rosemary Ann (known as Ann) are my parents. Derek died 15years ago today and I just happened to google his name and found your query!
So, Rosemary (Ann) was his wife, not his sister. I am Dad's only daughter, though he was also step father to my mother's two daughters from her first marriage.
You may also already know that Derek had a brother Neil Brechin, who lives in Edinburgh.
Where are you in relation to Dad on the family tree? Is there any other information you would like?
Regards Tessa Brechin

Hello, we are just doing a family heritage project with our daughter when we saw your message. All your names link up with the names we have as our ancestors. Albert Brechin is the son of Alberta Brechin who was the son of George and Marion Brechin. Alberta's oldest sister - Jeanie passed away 2-3 years ago at the age of 93 - she was the last of the brother/sisters of George and Marion. She has two daughters who are still alive. Alberta's first wife - Caroline Marion Hill passed away just last Nov. Albert is the oldest son of Alberta and Caroline and has 2 siblings also still alive. What else can I tell you???

Brechin/Brichen Family Aberdeen and England?

I have an Agnes BRECHIN c1852-1901 dau of Charles Brechin c1831-1886. Charles's parents were George Brechin c1798-1875 and Jane Simpson 1802-1867 who were married in Cruden, Aberdeenshire. George's DC stated his parents were Charles BRICHEN and Ann ?Ably and in the Aberdeen 1841, 1861 and 1871 census it was noted that he was born in England. The 1851 census indicated Methlic. I'm having difficulty in proving quite a number of this - has anyone this family in their tree?
Civilian Instructor for the Barrage Balloons

Hello:

My Grandfather had a skilled background therefore the R.A.F. wanted to make use of it. He was stationed in Blackpool. Prior to World War 2 and serving he lived in Brechin, Angus Scotland. I am trying to find out where he would of taken his training. There was apparently a Barrage balloon training groundon an estate in Brechin. This no longer exists however. He was shown on the Muster Roll for 1941 as being an Instructor. The R.A.F. in Sleaford has no record of him. How could I find out about where he trained in his home town of Brechin if it no longer exists as there must be a record out there for him?

Thankyou

Re: Jeanie Brechin/Timothoy Dobbyns marriage certificate.

Janet,

It is very easy to say, "because" and if you can tell us why our calendars give June 21st as the first day of summer and June 23rd as midsummer's day . . . . . . !! (I believe it. I believe it!!)

But seriously, the reason I think is because that's how church registers gave the information in their pre-printed books. For instance, I have a picture of a page of a marriage register entry which reads:-

" 'Thomas Walkley' of 'this' Parish and 'Ellen Allen' of 'this' Parish were married in this 'church' by 'Banns' with consent of 'all parties' this 'twenty fifth' Day of 'June' in the Year One thousand eight hundred and 'thirty seven'
By me 'John Maynard - Curate'
This Marriage was solemnized between us ('Thomas Walkley's mark X'
........................................................('Ellen Allen's mark |'

In the Presence of (Three witnesses who each made their mark)"

The 'words' are handwritten and there are three such entries per page.

I dare say there was much discussion, perhaps acrimonious and even sanctimonious(!!), between The Church and The Establishment before a quite radical change was made to the pre-printed registers and the first picture of the new register started in July 1837 reads (I use | to indicate the start & end of columns and / to indicate the two entries in the column):-

" 18'37' Marriage solemnized 'at the Parish Church' in the 'Parish' of 'Berkeley' in the Count'y of Gloucester'

| No | When Married | Name and Surname | Age | Condition | Rank or Profession | Residence at Time of Marriage | Father's Name and Surname | Rank or Profession of Father |

| 1 | July 27th | William Hill/Elizabeth Trotman | 30/23 | Batchelor/Spinster | Farmer/- | Coaley/Beverstone | Benjamin Hill/John Trotman | Farmer/Farmer |

Married in the 'Parish Church' according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the 'established church by licence' by me 'John Maynard Curate"

There follows the signatures of the couple and those of two witnesses Timothy and Mary Ann Trotman.

Two such entries per page of the register.

And the rest is history!!

Hope it helps.

Geoff
Hi,

I"m looking for James Brechin and Agnes Snape but have seen James Brechin and Agnes Adams several times. I think the two James are related (son or grandson?). There is a James, son of James Brechin and Agnes Adams b. 1840 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland. My GGGG Grandmother, Elizabeth Brechin was born in Kilsyth in the 1700s. Her parents were James Brechin and Agnes Snape of Hamilton, Lanark, Scotland. She married John Pender and all but there oldest child was born in Kilsyth.

Check alternate spellings of Brechin - Brechen, Brechan, Brecham, Brichen, Briham. My GGGG grandmothers name was spelt several ways.

Good luck!
Carol

I am looking for the Brechin family that lived in or near Edinburgh in 1900. I have photos from a trip my Great Aunt took to Scotland in 1900 when she visited her cousin Maggie Brechin. Photos of Maggie and Mrs. Brechin and a John Gordon were all taken in Edinburgh
