Genealogy of the descendants of James Breakenridge

Hello-

I am a descendant of Jacobus Breakenridge through James (1721) & Mary > David(1763) & Hester Wright > Mary Wright Breakenridge & Thomas Madden > Hester Brackenridge Madden and Alvah Adams and so on...

I recently ordered a copy of Cornelia A Gould's "Genealogy of the descendants of James Breakenridge who emigrated from Ireland, July, 1727" via intralibrary loan. Since it was relatively short, I scanned the entire book and put it into PDF format.

I am trying to submit this to the Family History section of Ancestry, so keep an eye out for it soon. I would also be willing to share this with anyone interested if it does not make it to Ancestry.

I would prefer to email it rather than send it via CD, but the file is large and your account would need to accomodate a 17MB message.

Interestingly, the book is not complete and does not list children of James past William, born in 1758. Any ideas on this? Was David a non-person after all? ;)

Matthew McDonald
matthewsmcdonald@hotmail.com

is my 5th great grandfather. My line comes down thru his son James
marriage to Mary Moore,
then their son Daniels marriage to Hannah Lyman, then their daughter Mary Breckenridge's marriage to George Bellows. Their daughter Harriet was my Great grandmother. I see your line comes thru Daniels brother David. I guess that would make us cousins however many times removed. I would be happy to compare notes if you like.

Would like information on the first wife of William Elnathan Breckenridge WI (May 28, 1895 - Jan 22, 1982) WI. William E. Breckenridge married his second wife, Lillian Irene Matson, August 30, 1940 in Iowa, however, he had two sons and two daughters who were born between the years 1919 and 1924, so it is evident that Lillian Irene Matson was not the mother of these four children. William E. and Irene Breckenridge resided at Waupaca, WI. Does anyone have the complete maiden name of William E. Breckenridge's first wife and her dates and places of birth, marriage and death? Would love to receive some help on this.
Mary Gwendolyn and Mary Elizabeth are granddaughters of James Douglas Breckenridge and Mary Elizabeth Grayson Breckenridge. Mary Elizabeth died in 1910, Mary Gwendolyn died 1909 in a sinking in the North Atlantic. Does anyone know the name of the ship she died on? Both are buried in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY.
George Alan Breckenridge b. abt. 1904, Wadena, MN

Descendants of a Montana Breckenridge family are looking for information concerning George Alan Breckenridge who was born 17 SEP 1904, in Red Eye township, Wadena County, Minnesota to James Henry Breckenridge and Margaret Florence Ervin. George Alan Breckenridge died June 1947 according to the SSDI. He might have died in Yakima County, Washington, but this is not known for certain. It is thought that George had two wives. George had a son by his first wife, who he adored, however, the boy died and it tore him to pieces. He never recovered from that loss. It is not known where the boy was born or died but it may have been Montana or Washington. A second wife also gave George a son, but he had not dealt with his grief properly, and never made the same connection to this son. Then George Alan Breckenridge disappeared. George was last seen during the depression at a family holiday gathering in Montana about the year 1933. The family does not know when or where this boy was born or who he might have grown up to be. He would have been born after 1933, and still could be alive. George’s second wife was seen by a relative during World War II, on a street in Tacoma, Washington. The first name of the second wife could have been Libbie or Livie. Any information pertaining to George Alan Breckenridge, his wives and sons would be deeply appreciated by family members.

Jane Buchanan was married to John Floyd. Then supposedly she married Alexander Breckenridge after the death of John Floyd. According to online records from the Floyd/Breckenridge Family Cemetery in Louisville, KY, Jane Buchanan Floyd is buried with the last name of Floyd and not Breckenrdige, like she wasn't married to Alexander Breckenridge. I do know Alexander's brother, Robert, is buried in this same cemetery, but never looked for Jane Buchanan Floyd to make sure what name she is buried under - Floyd or Breckenridge. Does anyone have proof, maybe a marriage license or something, to show Jane married Alexander?

As soon as the weather clears up and the ground dries out here, I plan to go back to the cemetery and see if I can find who all is buried there. There are probably about 15 or so graves in the cemetery and it is posted, so no one can get in but you can walk around the outside and take a look.

General John C. Breckinridge Funeral Newspaper report.

I have come across an article in an old bible detailing the funeral of General Breckenridge at Lexington, titled "kentucky's dead". Also in this bible was a newspaper clipping with a poem written by "Col. Christy of kentucky, a Confederate soldier on his death bed." The Title is "Kiss me For My Lizzie", and an obituary for one Marcus Lindsey Wilson d. 12 December 1872 age 20, son of Fletcher and Sarah (Boy, was Sarah a popular name back then, or what?).These are too lengthy of items for me to transcribe, sorry, but anyone wanting a scanned copy in JPEG format can feel free to contact me.
Names related to the Bible are Thomas, Walker, Heath, Allen, Carr, and Lyrm (?). Bible has 12 photographs in pages.

Some years ago my husband and I were traveling and stopped at a no-longer-used cemetery--I think it was in Nebraska, but not sure. Apparently there once was a military camp there. The front wall only of a building was still standing which appeared to have been the chapel. One of the stones in the cemetery was for J. A. Breckenridge, Lieut. Co. E. 33rd Iowa Inf.

Does anyone know anything about this cemetery, where it is, and what the name is? I would appreciate very much and help. They were married in about 1821 and in '37 they moved to OH. He was a farmer in OH, but I don't know what his trade was in PA. He died in 1873 and she died 20 Oct 1888. Their children were: William, Levi, Samuel, Catharine, Elizabeth, Fianna, Annias, Urias, and Mary. Can anyone help me with this brick wall that has existed for 40 years or more?

BRECKENRIDGE-LINTNER, mid & late 1700s - PA

I’m trying to sort out the LINTNER connection with the BRACKENRIDGE/BRECKENRIDGE family; especially as it concerns David (1730-1781) BRACKENRIDGE’s sons, David, Jr. and Samuel. From what I have been able to discern is that David, Jr. (1771-1861) married Sarah “Sally” LINTNER, daughter of Christian LINTNER. Samuel married Jane/Jean MAITLAND.
My confusion and frustration lies in the fact that a particular branch of Samuel’s line uses LINTNER as a middle name thru several generations; namely, the line of David Lintner BRECKENRIDGE (1822-1912), yet I haven’t seen where Samuel’s children had any LINTNER ancestry. I see that Samuel’s brother, David who did marry a LINTNER, had a son David L., but he was b. 1811 and died 1833 with no apparent descendants. All of these older names are from the Pennsylvania counties of Chester, Mifflin, Crawford, Fayette, and Beaver.
Any light that can be shed here is appreciated! Thanks… Steve
Breckenridges of Zorra West, Oxford North, Ontario 1861-1881

Are their any descendants of the Breckenridges of Zorra West township, County Oxford North, Ontario, Canada who could shed more light on the earlier members of this family?

I already know a good deal about them, but I would like to learn more. Matthew James Brackenridge b. July 22, 1827 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland was the immigrant Breckenridge ancestor for this family. Matthew was the son of John Breckenridge and Janet Wilson. Matthew married Jane Smith on May 20, 1854 at Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland. Shortly after their marriage Matthew and Jane immigrated to Ontario and began their new family who, to the best of my knowledge were: William, b. 1857; John, b. 1861; Matthew, b. 1862; David, b. 1863; and Jessie A. b. 1866.

William Breckenridge b. abt. 1857 in Ontario married Jane Ross and they had a son named Matthew James Breckenridge b. abt. 1880 who married Irene Sutherland and who resided in Woodstock, Ontario in 1940.

William R. breckenridge of Brantford who died October 17, 2000 at the age of 82 years, must have been a member of this family. Can anyone tell me who his parents were or shed any more light on this Breckenridge family?

Nancy A. On September 26, 1805 she was married by the
Rev. Hugh Dickson to James Drake, born 1 January 1784 and
died 7 December 1854. They were parents of nine children: Four sons and five daughters. The Drake family has maintained a family tree of all the descendants of the James-Nancy union up until the present (1977).
Source: "The Early Breckenridges of the Deep South." compiled by Daniel E.
Several years ago, my husband and I were traveling--either in South Dakota or Nebraska. We found the site of a military base--nothing remains of it except one wall of the church. There was a cemetery with several graves. One stone had the following information on it:: J. A. Breckenridge, Lieut. Co. E, 33rd IOWA INF. I took a picture of the stone and would like to contact any descendant of his. There was no date on this stone, but others there had dates of 1887, 1890,and one in 1878. It has been so long since we were there that I have forgotten exactly where this is, and my husband has passed away. I'm trying to, among other things, find where we were. Thank you.

Connie Freriks
