I believe Minnie is Maria Sophia Wilhelmine Oehlschlager, born Sep. 21, 1840 in Hannover, Germany, died Dec. 29, 1923 in Lafayette Co., Missouri. (Note: her death certificate is indexed as Mrs. Wilhelmina Hoesemeyer http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/
She was married on May 8, 1857 to Heinrich Friedrich D. "Fritz" Haesemeyer, born Jan. 1 1824, died March 10, 1902.

Her parents were Conrad Oehlschlaeger, born about 1819, died Aug. 7, 1851, buried St. John United Church of Christ, Emma, MO and Dorothea Luehrs, born Oct. 1, 1818, died Nov. 1, 1855, buried St. John UCOC. Dorothea married 2nd, William Heinrich Ehlert Diers on July 8, 1852.

Conrad had at least 2 other children:

Maria Sophia Carolina, born Apr. 6 1849, died Feb. 1, 1857 and Friedrich Heinrich born Nov. 15, 1851.

If you have any other questions, my email address is vghurd@rangeweb.net

I'm looking for information about Louise's half brother and sister, Henry and Minnie Oelschlager. Specifically, their parents. Henry is my Gr Gr Grandfather. Do you have Minnie's parents' names and how she is related to the Oelschlagers? I believe Henry and Minnie's father's name is Heinrich Conrad Oelschlager born in Germany and died in early 1860s in Missouri. I have no information about their birth mother except that her maiden name may have been Luehrs.

I'm looking for someone related to the Bedehoft bloodline, originating from Ahlerstedt, Germany.

I know this will seem like a scam, but I work with Unclaimed funds in the U.S. and am working on an account in California that belonged to deceased person from that bloodline. Since any living blood relative can claim it, I'm looking for one person that will work with me on this.

My company is a member of the Better Business Bureau and I'm registered with the State of CA.

Janet after I indicated my line as a possibility I looked at page 12 of the chronicle and a Claus Bredehoft born Sept 20, 1832 in Bokel Germany married Maria Schlichtemeier on April 3 1859 in Cuyahoga County Ohio. Claus died in Otoe County Nebraska, same county as your great grandfather. Claus was the son of Matthias Bredehoeft and Engle Anna Olkers. Matthias is mention at the bottom of Page 11. Matthias was born in Klethen on Feb 2 1791. He was the son of Meinke Bredehoft born April 20 1764 in Ahlerstedt. He married Engel Anna Ojkers He is outlined on page 8.

It looks like Claus was the immigrant who went to Ohio first then Nebraska, immigrating perhaps in the 1850s. They may have had children in Ohio or another place before moving to Nebraska. You should be able to find Claus and Maria in the 1860 and 1870 census that may give you a list of potential descendants that may be the father of your great grandfather. Of course it may not track, this is just a possibility. You have many cousins, note the chronicle. Manfred in Germany has a lot of informaton.

http://www.bredehoeft.ch/Chronik/Chronik/chronik.htm

According to information in the Bredehoeft chronicle Johann Bredehoft born October 19 1857 in Ahlerstedt Hanover Germany married Maria Hauschildt who was born in May 30, 1864 in Konigreich Hannover. They both died in York County Nebraska. Page 17http://www.bredehoeft.ch/Chronik/Chronik/chronik.htm

I am of the line of Elisabeth born in 1866 who died in 1898 in Los Angeles. Most moved to Los Angeles including some of Johann's children. They moved during the depression I believe.

There are other Bredehofts.

Hi Britney,

Surname etymology is a science that I would like to do for a given surname, but as such, I haven't yet found a good free source of information yet. Believe it or not, the best place to look up that type of informaition (surname origins) is at one of those genealogy booths you sometimes see at ethnic fairs (Northern European usually). I got a very accurate one for my Moms maiden name Bevis at an irish ethnic fair, and I also got a very good one for my surname of Katscher at the English section of Epcott, Disneyworld.

One source is called "The Historical Research Center"
and the other is www.hallofnames.com, of course their website is geared to people selling the info at those types of fairs.

In doing some research on the name recently I have found that some of the earliest people with the Bredehöft surname (Early 1700s) came from this area of Germany:
Meinstedt, Kirchspiel Heeslingen, Hannover, Germany

BTW, there are a few variations on the name, these are the most common:
Bredehoft, Bredehoeft, Bredehöft
with Bredehöft of course beign the correct one. The umlauted o in German ö, means you say "oooo" when you see it insead of "eeww." Supposedly the closest correct english pronunciation is Bredehoeft but then other people just dropped the umlauted o and didn't add an e hence Bredehoft.

Another BTW:
What kind of drove me nuts about this name is that I have ancestors with the names of Bredbeck, Bredehoft, and Kihlkin who were all living in Hanover Germany and then immigrated during the same time (1800-1850) and settled in and around Danbury Twp, Ottawa Co, Ohio.

I bet you your boyfriends ancestry is probably from Ohio sometime down the road.

That's interesting about you and Melvin being double "cousins" but I know from research in my family that these things happen oftener than we know. My husband turned out to share an ancestor with my uncle by marriage ten generations back although one was raised in California and the other in Missouri.
My email is SDL1177@cs.com. My snail mail is 31 Tanglewood Drive, Preston, CT 06365. You are welcome to share my name with the other descendants. Susan

What address may I use for you? A lot of what I have on Heinrich's family I got from two members of that family. They both have an e-mail address. Incidentally, not only are Melvin and I related through the Bredehoeft line but also through the Hemme line, actually the Wienbergs.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Are you willing to share what you have on Henry? I have very little other than what I gleaned fron the census records for him. I have no idea who his parents were, his siblings or his children (I did find children John, Louis who seems to have died young, Theresa/Tracey and Bertha?). Would you prefer to discuss this offline? Looking forward to hearing from you. Susan

I have the almost complete genealogical report of Henry (Hinrich) going back to 1541 along with complete information on all siblings and most of their descendants. Hinrich was my great uncle. He was a brother to my Grandfather Jacob. Jacob was 65 when my father Harry was born, therefore the vast difference in age. I have paid a genealogical researcher in Germany to get me information back to 1541 on the family and have spent countless hours digging for all the other information since they arrived in America. We do have a family web site for Jacob and his descendants at www.jacobbredehoeft.org. Sometime within the next year I hope to be able to publish a book about the Bredehoeft family.

Martin Johann Bredehoft was born in Sweet Springs, Mo. His wife Mary Wohlers was also born in Sweet Springs. In addition to the children you found on the census they had Lambert Christoph, born 10/9/1898, died 4/19/1890, and Leonard Martin born 8/6/1900, died 1/30/1901. Martin Johann, although considerably older than my father Harry, he was my father's first cousin. His father Christoph was a brother to my grandfather Jacob. What else would you like to know about them?

I have since learned that Frederich fischer was born 1814 in Bruche, Germany. He married Sophia Justina Maria Heineker. Five children were born in Germany and three in the US. Their daughter, Friedericke married Claus Bredehoft. Their oldest son, Otto, was born March 9 (my birthday also) in Saline Co. MO. Otto was my great-grandfather. I discovered this through Connie Fischer Reagles who lives in Marshall and has been to nearby Emma.

Are you sure this Johann was born in 1838? Could it possibly have been 1836? I am researching all of Johann Bredehoft's children. This Johann was my great grandfather, born in 1802, had 10 children, one of whom was another Johann born in 1836. My grandfather Jacob, one of the 10, was born in 1839. The Johann (my great uncle) who was born in 1836 came to American in 1868 with his father Johann, step mother Maria, brother Jacob, brother Paul, half sister Maria and half brother Cord. I know about the lack of time, I only can do this sporadically even though I would like to do it full time. Do you need anything researched at Concordia or Emma Missouri? I am there frequently.

I am looking for the Johann Bredehoft born October 7, 1836 in Haassel Germany, baptized October 16, 1836 in Selsingen. Just got this from the church records in Germany. Johann was a brother to my grandfather Jacob. This Johann was the son of Johann Bredehoeft, born in 1802 and Gesche Lohden, who died in Germany. Elder Johann my great grandfather emigrated in 1868 via New Orleans with his second wife Maria, children Maria and Cord by second wife, and with sons Jacob, Johann and Paul from his first wife Gesche. There are so many Johann/John Bredehofts I am trying to find the right one for my tree. They settled in the Concordia/Emma Missouri area.

I am the granddaughter of Jacob and Margaretha Wienberg Bredehoeft. I have documented almost all of the family information beginning with Jacob and Margaretha until the present. Just this last week I received information from Germany (I paid a gentleman to research church records for me) concerning Jacob's father Johann and Jacob's brothers and sisters. Some of this we had no record about. I would be interested in hearing from all Bredehofts/Bredehoefts whose ancesters came from Selsingen Germany. I am trying to put the branches of the tree together to include other Bredehoefts who are not direct descendents of Jacob and Margaretha.

She married Christof Steffens on April 6, 1902 in Malstedt, Germany.

Christof and Katherine had several children: Claus, Edna, Heinrich, Johann, Katherina, 2 other daughters and another son.

If you have any information regarding this family I would greatly appreciate it!
