Who can tell me something about James Breeden b. abt. 1857 Arkansas? I know he had a brother, L.O./Linsey/Lindsey Breeden, b. abt. 1855 also in Arkansas. They are both found in the 1860 Census in Welborn Twp., Conway Co., Arkansas in the household of James Holyfield. From probate records of James Holyfield in Conway Co., Arkansas, their father was John Breeden. Neither James Holyfield nor these Breeden brothers are found in the 1870 Census. I know that James Holyfield traveled to California to visit relatives about 1870 and died there in 1871. The Breeden brothers apparently traveled with him as they are found in the 1880 Census in El Monte, Los Angeles, California.

I would like to know if James Breeden ever married or had children. I know Lindsey married and apparently had a son. His wife, Mary, died in 1910 in Orange County, CA. Census records show that his wife gave birth to only one child, a son, Victor Ellis Breeden. Lindsey was a station agent with Southern Pacific Railroad for many years in So. California. However, he is living with his son up in the Bay Area (Alameda County) in the 1920 Census and died up there in 1928. James appears to have relocated to San Bernardino and became a tax collector for the IRS. However, according to a Los Angeles Times newspaper article dated 30 Aug 1896, Lindsey was in Monrovia (Los Angeles Co., San Gabriel Valley) at the bedside of a sick brother. James is listed in the Pre-1905 Death Index on 08 Sep 1896 at age 39 years, 4 months. He is shown as “single”. This probably indicates that he never married, but could mean he just wasn’t married at the time of his death.

I am not related to these Breeden brothers. I’m a volunteer for an old pioneer cemetery in the El Monte area. I am researching a curious burial shown in the records as “W. Bauden” with no additional data of any kind. In studying the original books, I think this handwritten name could be “W. Breeden”. This old cemetery is a possible burial location for someone who died in Monrovia at that time. James Holyfield is buried at this cemetery along with 3 of his daughters and other relatives.

I’m wondering if this “W. Bauden” is really Breeden and could be a wife or child of James Breeden. Or could this be James himself under a middle initial??

She had three brothers and three sisters who are also deceased. Edgar, and James Horner and Nathan Breeden. Rachel Breeden Matlock, Thelma Davidson and Doris Saunders.Mae- Mae married my grandpa (William Thomas Hortenberry) 50 some yrs ago. She had alot of nieces and nephews but i really dont know them all. I somewhat know Buddy Farmer(nephew) and Missy Jackson (niece)but thats really about all. SALINAS

Charles "Charley" Harding Breeden, 88, of Salinas, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Severy, Kansas. He was a 66 year resident of Salinas. He was a car enthusiast who loved doing his own restoration. At one time, his classic car collection had 34 antique and classic cars.
He was a hunter and certified guide in Idaho. He spent many months of the year guiding hunters from around the world including many celebrities.
Charley was the owner of Breeden Brothers Garage on Williams Road in Salinas for 45 years.
He was a member of the VFW.
He served in the United States Navy as a mechanic on the USS Liscome Bay during WWII and received the Purple Heart after his ship was torpedoed. He spent several days in shark infested water before he was rescued. After his naval service he returned to Salinas.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clete Breeden of Salinas and Glen Breeden of Colorado and his sister, Daisy Breeden.
Survivors: Wife, Shirley; children, Jerry Breeden, Sherrie Breeden, Joan Rodgers, Cindy Tomasini, Renea Wood and John Algire; brother, Claude "Mugs" Breeden of Young, Ariz. and Terry and Sandie Breeden of Salinas; grandchildren, Tom and Charlie Breeden, Peter Garcia, Marcia Sieber, Becky Kimzey, Sammie, Castillo Courtney Tomasini and Sarah Tomasini.
Visitation: From 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

I recently received a request about a marriage between a John Kendall and a Rose Brian Breeden (Bruden). They were married about 1766 in Orange Co Virginia. I have researched Orange Co marriage records but have found no record of this marriage.

On a list of thitables I have found:

Jon Kimdoll (1767) listed with 2 tithables.
Taken by Jeremiah Bryan

John Kendal (1768) listed with 1
Taken by Jeremiah bryan

John Kendall (1769) listed with 2
Richard breden listed with 2
**They are listed together on the list**
Abner Breden listed with 1
taken by Jeremiah White

John Kendall (1782) listed with 7,0
Abner Cross (Breden) 8,0
taken by Zack Burnley

Both are agin listed in the 1784 records as well. In 1784 they are visited on the 12th for Jon and 26th for Abner.

If I go by a minimum age of 20 for marriage then Rose would have been born abt 1746. If she is a daughter of Richard Breeding (Cross) then she is unlisted on his will. She could possibly be a sister or neice but thier are no other Breeden's listed in the area. The time line puts her in the right time frame to be a daughter though doubtful if she could be a sister if Richard's birth date is 1698 - 1715 time frame.

Wonder if any other researchers have come upon this marriage. The closeness of John kendall to Richard in 1769 and Abner after that my indicate a father living with his daughter. Since Richard dies about 1773 then he could have been living with a daughter for a while. This however doesn't explain the lack of her name in his will.

Would appreciate any thoughs you might have on this.

In my family tree, I have a William S. Breeding born in Madison Co. in 1771 and married Susannah Tanner in 1794. She was born in 1773. They had a son William, Jr. and the spelling was changed to Breeden. He was born in Rockingham Co. and was married to Susan Meadows, born in 1819. His father was Thomas Abraham Breeden born in Page Co. and married in Rockingham Co. in 1870 to Elizabeth (Bettie) Marsh. One of their sons, Cleveland was my grand father.

Florence was born about 1888. I believe her mother's name was Sarah L. Breeden. Florence had 2 sister's I am aware of. Lena Meatte, and Amanda ________.
She had two brother's I am aways of, Elbert Kelly, born 1891, and William, born 1887. There was probably more children I am not familiar. Florence married Fred Guthrie. One of their son's Lester Guthrie was my dad, born 06-13-

Delores Darlene "Peggy" Jones, 73, Dresden, Muskingum county, Ohio passed away at 2:50 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Coshocton, Ohio.

Born November 25, 1935 in Dresden, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Ruby (Lacy) Breeden.

She attended Jefferson High School in Dresden and enjoyed reading books and crossword puzzles, plus being with all her family and especially all the grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Howard (Melissa) Jones, West Lafayette, Ohio; Virgil Michael (Deanna) Jones, Plainfield, Ohio; two daughters, Marsha Kay (William) Davis, Plainfield, Susan Karlene (Arthur) Swauger, Coshocton, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Rebecca (Perry) Derr, Chase and Colby Jones, David (Karensa) Arotin, Amy Arotin, Bobbi (James Allen) Arotin, Michael (Saraia) Jones, Kasi (Paul) Denny, Perry Jones, Robin Lester; nine great-grandchildren, Jade and Alaina Derr, Preslee Wallace, David and Trinity Arotin, Braden McVay, Mia and Jaymz Allen, Jessie Jones; two brothers, Donnie (Ann) Breeden, Dresden and Robert (Dee) Breeden, Newark, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, many special friends and loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her step-father, Virgil Foust; a brother, Richard Breeden; and two sisters, Patty Workman and Wilma Noland.

To honor Delores' request, there are no calling hours or services. Free Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Just curious. In transcribing some letters dating 1850-51 from my g2 grandfather Daniel A Horn written from San Francisco to family in Cheraw, SC I noticed the mention of a John? Breeden (as nearly as I can make out the spelling) who seems to have been a friend or neighbor in SC who was also out in San Francisco. I believe both attended the Methodist Episcopal Church. Does this ring a bell with anyone.

I just noticed you post of 1999. The Clara Breeden and Jesse Franklin Tingle you mentioned are my great, great grandparents. I wondered if you knew any about the dates of their births or where they were from, their parents, siblings, etc.
