Hooray!
which grandfather...Richard the salt hawker or William Thomas the coal miner? -- Do you know what happened to their two younger sisters Dora and Emma?
Look fwd to hearing from you. Thomas always struck me as being the responsible brother --my gt grandfather William was a bit of a fly by nigjht: he followed his father Richard's path and left his wife Ellen to live with some woman called Pamela in Smethwick in 1901 (census). I have all the info on the family. Will be delighted to share them with you once we can establish a contact.give you complete story as soon as we can establish email contact.
Cheers, Bea

Hi
I thought I had sent you a message to your e-mail address but it looks like it didn't work so I'll try again, in the meantime yes I am desended from Richard Breeze, he was my Great-Great-Grandfather and his son Thomas was my Great-Grandfather.

As you said Richard is a hard man to track down.
Regards
Celia

I am looking for information on Garrison Brown. He was born about 1840 in Illinois. He married Mary Elizabeth Sara Isabell (her name is listed in different places differently) Cavens. They had several children all probably born in Illinois:
Lucy
Minerva Jane
Norcena Angeline
Alard Maxard
Arlena Mariea
Carvi London

Any information would be appreciated. I do not know what happened to him. He seems to have left the family.

Richard was a Labourer age 23 and his Father was also named Richard also a Labourer. Jane was 24 and her Father was James Marks a Lime Burner.
Parallels with my Breeze ancestor, John 28 (b. Newtown), also an iron worker, married Elizabeth Morgan 27 (b. Tredegar) Christmas day 1853 in St Lukes, Bilston (then Staffordshire). They had a son John born in Dudley 1857.

It took me ages to find their certificate - seems some iron workers were very mobile. I know he was several locations in South Wales, the Black Country & the North East (he ended up in Pennsylvania!). Your Breeze marraige location could be at any iron-making location.

Re: Luke Breeze Family

Hi Paul. First, I appologize for the errors. I'm recovering from pneumonia and still a little fuzzy. As to Hannah--they are listed as individuals. Usually a married couple is listed as "Joshua and Hannah Breeze" or Joshua Breeze and Wife Hannah Breeze" These were listed as "Joshua Breeze, Hannah Breeze....." indicating 2 separate entities.

I have requested copies of a lawsuit filed in Shenandoah and an appraisement of property filed in Augusta county but just sent those out. It seems Luke owned property in Frederick and Shenandoah Counties and died in Augusta where he was resident (thus the appraisment>

I wanted the info of what I had actually seen on the web w/sources so people won't pick up on as many 'guesses'. The Frederick county clerk is very helpful but the info is very limmited. (3 pages)

I would love to exchange info although I have not done any searches in Ireland. Had enough problems w/the family in the States.

Trish
pahs_1066@yahoo.com

Re: Luke Breeze Family

Thank you for posting the info about the law suit involving the heirs of Luke Breeze. I had the 1810 Census info already, as well as the 1820 Census data, but not this Chancery record that you discussed. Looping back to your post of August 3 when you stated, "Also copy of Oliver vs. Estate of Luke Breeze which mentions son Joshua and dau. Hannah. This Hannah must be 2nd female in 1810 Census listing for Luke Breeze". But, you don't explicitly state in this August 29 post that Hannah was a daughter. Can you verify that she was the 2nd daughter and not the wife of Joshua who might possibly have been mentioned in the law suit as well. She probably is the second daughter, I just want to make sure.

In your other post of August 29 you said "James Breeze, son of Luke and Harriet Breeze married Amanda Shepherd". I think you meant "grandson" if I'm not mistaken. I have not pursued the line down from James so the name of his wife and your source info. is much appreciated. Anything you wish to share about his immediate family would be appreciated. I can send you info. about Sarah's family and descendants if you don't already have that info.

Have you ever been able to find the parents of Luke or Harriet? I have Luke, b. abt. 1740 Northern Ireland, d. bef. 07 Oct 1825, Shenandoah, VA and Harriet Dismeet (Dismet) b. abt. 1750, d. aft. 1820. No real sources for this information, mostly derived from other sources. I also have some research notes about Luke being from Down, Ireland but nothing that has been authenticated.

My line descends from Sarah Dismeet Breeze down through the Ogden family. I would appreciate a copy of James and Amanda's marriage and also a copy of the law suit if it isn't too much trouble.

Paul

Luke Breeze Family

1810 Census Frederick Co., VA Has Luke Breeze, 1 w. female over 45 (wife Harriet, prob) 2 females 16-25. Sons William and Joshua were on their own. Sarah D. Breeze was a known daughter but, 2 were listed in Census. In Frederick Co VA Chancery Records Index # 1832-109 CSC. Daniel Oliver vs. Heir(s) of Luke Breeze. LVA Microfilm Reel # 342, Local Reel # 373 Image #239 states (and not much else!) Joshua Breeze, Hannah Breeze and the other children or heirs of Luke Breeze (deceased). The only other pg. in these documents states: Joshua Breeze and Hannah Breeze not inhabitants of this Commonwealth. Joshua went w/sister Sarah and her family to Morgan Co., OH sometime between 1818 and 1830 when Joshua is listed in the Ohio Census. Hope this helps Breeze researchers

Re: Breezes from British Columbia and Ontario, Canada?

Teress's mother Louisa Grove married my husband's great-great-uncle E.E. Peterson/Patterson. I've been researching this family. Have you see this? It is the same Teress (dad was Calaway Manning Flora aka La Fleur).
Per find-a-grave,

Birth: Nov. 2, 1856
Ontario, Canada
Death: Sep. 19, 1948
British Columbia, Canada

Edward, aka "Ned," was the son of Frances Harrison and Robert Glover Breeze. He grew up in the Thousand Islands area of Ontario, Canada, becoming a druggist by trade and immigrating to the United States. He married Teress Flora and the couple had three children. Their marriage broke up after 1901.

Ned remarried in 1910, and he, his wife, and daughter moved to tiny Cortes Island. Interestingly enough, though there was no electricity on the Island until the 1960s or 1970s and no running water at the cabin, the Breezes did have the luxury of telephone service which kept them connected to the outside world.

Edward spent the rest of his life on Cortes, only leaving when he became too ill to stay there, and he died at the age of 91. The picture accompanying this page was taken when he was close to 90 years of age, still living alone and as self-sufficiently as possible.

Ned worked at a local fox raising farm when he first arrived in the area, and in the local fisheries and on surveying parties during the summers of his earlier years on Cortes Island. He grew fruits and vegetables for his family's use, raised some livestock, and also kept chickens--selling the excess eggs to bring in a little income. He was considered a local authority on the nearby Indian burial caves and the paintings on their walls, and did his best to protect the artifacts from looters. He made friends with the local deer and was even able to get them to eat from his hands.

He and his wife were known for giving socials, with neighbors rowing to the couple's property (no roads led to it) to enjoy the Breezes' hospitality and good food.

His property, though no longer owned by family members, is still known as "The Breeze Place" to Island residents, and a flowering cherry tree he planted still blooms at the edge of the property each spring.

Burial:
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.

Created by: Four Leaf Clover
Record added: May 04, 2001
Find A Grave Memorial# 5413739
In 1860 Chariton Co, Mo census he was living with his two young daughters Ann-3 and Mary 1. no wife but had an elderly man living with them Edward Shankster 1773 Eng. From what I can gather he was father to your Hannah Shankster that married Sam Twiry . If you look on the 1860 Chariton Co census all these families are living next to each other George Breeze, Twiry, Thomas and Fox. I am trying to locate Edward's 1 st wife she passed away bet the birth of Mary and 1860. He remarried late July 1860 to Sarah Franklin. Edward Shankster was married to Joanna Longbones both Eng.

I am researching Postons and one of the girls married a Breeze in Ontario, Canada. May be related to one of yours?

Here on Ancestry under Ontario Canada Marriages 1857-1924 it lists Frederick John BREEZE marrying Alice Emily POSTON.

I don't have the expanded subscription so couldn't get anymore info than that on the marriage info but I was able to find the birth record for him.

England and Wales Free BMD Birth Index 1837- 1915

Frederick John BREEZE
b. 1878 Quarter: Apr May Jun
District: Wellington Sal County: Shopshire England

Alice Emily Poston was listed in the 1901 English Census as living in Shopshire, England with her parents. The family went to Ontario in 1911. Her parents and siblings crossed into the US at Detroit in 1921/22 but I haven't followed up as to where the Breeze family went. (I am researching her brother's line for my cousin).

Diane

Hi Lynn

I have a few John Brees but don't know anything about them apart from father's name and dob.
They all came from Llanbrynmair.
John Brees b. 1724 son John Brees b. 1760
David Brees b. 1750 son John Brees b. 1778

Either of those two sons could be right date wise, but I haven't followed their lines as it was a brother in their family that was my interest.

The name also changed spelling through the generations, Brees, Breese ans Breeze, just to add to the confusion!!

Hope this helps
Erika
