I am searching for any information regarding my BREIGHNER ancestors. I know that my great great grandfather's name was F.D. Breighner, whose wife's name was Mary. They had two male children that I know of, Bert William and Henry/Harry (not sure which). Bert William Breighner married Nora B. Chapman and had seven children in IL.
Please e-mail with any information!!

BREIGHNER on-line data base

Breighner/Brickner/Britner researchers: After many, many months of research, and many hundreds of miles of travel to historical societies and libraries, my husband and I have finished collecting all that we could find on the Hagers in America in the 1700s and early 1800s. Dozens of different Breighner/Brickner/Britner families, tracked for many generations. Breighners from York Co PA; Brickners, Britners, and Brichners from WV, Brickners from OH, Britners from MD, and elsewhere. Spouses, too, and spouses' families. And, as you know, that includes Gottlieb Briegner, the original immigrant in 1740.

It's all on-line, in a new down-loadable data base. Please check out your own Breighners to be sure we have it correctly. We found lots of conflicts in the records, and sorted them out as best we could. Let us know if we've gone astray, or if you want to know why we show certain Breighners in the same families. For example, we are now quite sure that Gottlieb and Nicklaus, who arrived nine years later, were most likely brothers.

You can find the on-line data base at the worldconnect URL below. To go directly to the on-line data base, just go to the data base URL address:
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...

and type in the name of the person you're looking for. To find his/her ancestors, just go to the bottom of the page and click on "Pedigree". To see a long list of his/her descendants, just click on "Ahnentafel". You can also download a GedCom file for that person; just click on GEDCOM and follow instructions.

I hope to hear from you.

Bill Brobst and Dorothy Britner <brobstwa@mindspring.com>
Breighner Family History Project
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=hager
Nicklaus, Anthony 1781, and Michael 1832

Who can tell me anything about Nicklaus Breighner who arrived in America in 1749, wife was Anna Elisabeth, son was Johann George b Jan 26 1755? He arrived in Phila on October 17, 1749, aboard the ship "Dragon", from Rotterdam and Portsmouth, with Hans Michael Cuntz. The ship's papers showed his name as "Brikner", but it is presumed that he was a part of this Breighner family in some way. He must have been born before 1733 to have been listed on the ship's register.

Could he have been the father of Anthony Breighner b 1781 (h/o Hannah Meyer) and the grandfather of Michael Breighner b 1832 (h/o Anna Catharina Knecht)? And Margaretha b 1769 (w/o Michael Strausbaugh)?

Thanks for helping.

Bill

William A.
Gotlieb or Gottlieb?

Gottlieb Breighner's name is sometimes spelled with one "t", sometimes with two. Gott is the German name for God, and Gottlieb means "God's love". "Got" is not German, but an Anglicization. Gottlieb is a not-uncommon German name, and invariably spelled with two "t"s. One Conewago PA baptismal record spells it Godlieb. And when he signed up for the Revolutionary War, he was listed as Gotliep Brizner!

So that's why I refer to him always as Gottlieb, rather than Gotlieb.

Bill Brobst
