Just starting research for niece... Her grandfather (Howard Kenneth Gatrell) was stationed in Hawaii during the war and married Margaret Breithaupt. Margaret was the daughter of William and Leona. She was born in 1924. Howard and Margaret's daughter Geraldine was born in Hawaii before they moved to West Virginia near Howard's family.

There was an August Breithaupt in the 1920 census with children Otto, Ella, William and Helen. Is this the Otto you're descended from?

Breithaupt family

My husband's family came over in the late 1800's. Moritz Breithaupt came into Philadelphia and settled in the area. He married Lena Mott (not sure if they married over here). Their son Frank Breithaupt (and perhaps others) were born in the United States. Frank Married Violet (nee Klind(t)worth) and they had between 9 and 11 children. Some of those children remained in PA and others into Northern New Jersey. My husband's grandfather was Frank and Violet's son Milton. (Other sibling names of Milton's that I have are: Frank Jr., Violet, A. Reba, and Howard (Hawk). Would love to know if anyone is related or has info.!

Ollie and Mary Breithaupt were friends of my Dad and his folks who also lived on the same road many, many years ago. I got to know their grand daughter well and have many fond memories of that family. Let me know if I might be able to direct you to family members. Pat

hi suzette,
i don't know if we are from the same family line or not but, i just couldn't believe it when i came across this name. my mother was a breithoff. her father was joseph breithoff he died in1967. his parents were joseph and nora(coyne) breithoff.
i know that he had brothers in the FLA. area. martin & john.
i was always told that they changed the spelling of the name many years ago that's why i was so surprised when i came across it. i know the family moved around quite a bit but they did come to settle in Fla. my grandfather however came to Pa.

Rolf,

I don't know if my ancestors are connected to your family. According to my information Lucas Breithaup was born about 17 October 1823 in either Diersburg or Baden Baden. He married Susanna Durand 12 January l858 in St Louis, Missouri. He died 27 March 1890 in Quincy, Illinois. He would have been my great grandfather on my mother's side. I have not been to Germany to check the records there to determine what family members stayed in Germany. I would welcome research from Germany.

Claudia
