Louis Abegg and family came from Switzerland to port of New Orleans in early-mid 1850's. They were to meet a contact in Quincy, Illinois but a cholera epidemic closed the river to travel north of St. Louis. Abegg's settled in Belleville and Louis operated a soda water factory. My mother is a descendant of Louis' daughter, Albertina Abegg Appel. Hope that adds something to your research. Jack
