Breitwiesers in St. Louis

Does anyone else have Breitweisers in St. Louis? Supposedly they emigrated through New Orleans and came up the Mississippi. My ggrandfather was Henry Breitwieser. His son, Henry Dietrich (born between 1905 and 1912) got tired of everyone pronouncing his name Breit-wizer so he changed the spelling to Breitweiser. Henry Dietrich's sister was my grandmother, Florence.
Any information on St. Louis Breitwiesers/Breitweisers would be appreciated.

Heidi Abegg

Thanks for your reply. It doesn't appear to fit in with my family (my Florence only had one brother), although it is always possible that William and my ancestor were related -- I have not done enough research on Dieterich's siblings or parents though.

Heidi Abegg

Catherina Breitweiser (born Oct. 1860, Missouri) married
William F. Remshardt (born March 5, 1859 in Louisiana; died Dec. 15, 1920). They were married March 27, 1880 in St. Louis and had two sons: Edward Remshardt (Oct. 1885) and William Remshardt (b. Jan 1888).

Catherina is listed as Catherine and Katie.
Hope u will share how this fits. The letter recently translated dated sept. 1862 is written from Ober Ramstadt, Darmstadt from Philip Mueller to my g-g-grandfather his brother Johann/John. John had just returned to NYC after a trip to Germany. He has received a package that John had sent to Wilhelm Breitweiser and in his conclusion he mentions special greetings from this Wilhelm B. Midway in the letter he asks of news of the Ober Ramstadters that have joined (our) military. "Ihave heard here that Jacob Breitweiser is a 2nd lieutenant..." and shares concerns of our civil war Pls share how this fits if u email me I can send a full translation Ro chaigle@aol.com

Marriage (1912) Sigurd & Hattie (Breitweiser) Johnson - Couple w/ Sweden, Germany, IA & NE connection

SERENDIPITY: In the Jan-Feb 1996 issue of "The Genealogical Helper" magazine, pg. 228, is a charming photo of Sigurd & Hattie (Breitweiser) Johnson on their wedding day. The couple was married 31 Jan 1912 at Titonka, IA. They lived most of their lives in Mason City, Iowa.

Sigurd was born in Vasterivik, Sweden, 27 Aug 1889, son of Johann and Charlotte (Petterson) Larson. He migrated to the United Sates as a young man settling in Iowa and later in Mason City.

Hattie was born 23 Sept 1891, near Dubois, IN, daughter of George & Elizabeth (Preusz) Breitweiser.

Sigurd and Hattie were parents of four children: Edward (1912-64); William (1925-90); Alma (Mrs. H. Spargur), Falls City, NE, and Jeanette (Mrs. C. D. Anderson), Mason City, IA. Both women were widowed.

Sigurd still has family living in Sweden. Descendants of Johann Peter and Catherine (Himsel) Breitweiser who came from Germany (Hattie's grandparents) are scattered all over the United States.

Hope this "snippet" provides just the right clue to a researcher. Please reference issue for further details.

Breitweiser's In Indiana

I may be able to help you. My husband's grandfather, Adam Thomas Breitweiser, was born to parents Nicholas Breitweiser and Catherine Breitweiser from Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. He had brothers John L. Breitweiser and George Breitweiser and Jacob Breitweiser. There were two sisters Catherine Breitweiser and Mary Elizabeth Breitweiser. The parents settled in Westminister, Maryland. John L. stayed there and raised a large family. George and Adam went to Ohio and married women from there. Adam's first wife died and he married the second time to Mary Jane Feighner and had one son Paul Breitweiser. They moved to Anderson, In. This was my husbands Father. Jacob Breitweiser went to California and was murdered there. We think he left a family, but have not looked for them as of yet. We do have a picture of George Breitweiser. Do hope this is your line. Please let us hear from you. There are so few Breitweiser's.
