To all Concerned: According to my late Uncle Charles Gregory Breland, who researched our family history, with the help of many of his cousins and Aunts. He stated that according to his research, the Breler/Breland name came from some where in or near Bavaria or the old Prussian Empire, which is now southern Germany, it was his belife that three or five brothers, Abraham, Jacob, James, john, and William, came to America on the ship Queen Of Denmark around 1755; which arrived in Philadelpha. Then they travaled frist to North Carolina, and were given land Grants, which they farmed until about 1765, when they moved to the Beaufort/Boggy Gutt areas of South Carolina and got some land grants that they farmed. They began using the name Breland some time after 1790. After Abraham Breler/Breland born 1725, died in 1805, many of his and his brother's children and their families, other associated families migrated to Southern Lousianna, and Southwest Mississippi. There is French, Spanish, Scotish, English, Whelch, Cherokee, Chochtaw, and Chicasaw, and other in the blood lines of many Breland and related families. There are farmes, Doctors, Lawers, Business people of all types , accountans, teachers, Preachers, and Scientist of may type,in the Breland and related families. We are a very diverse group of people. One of yougets of the original five brothrs, James Breler/Breland fought with the English, during the Revolutionary war, and left for the Ohio Terrietoy after that conflict ended as it was unhealth for Torries, as thoes who fought for the English, were then called.

Hello Leila,
I am researching one of the son's of Griffin & Lucinda Berry. Lewis J. Berry married my great grandfather's sister, Nancy Malinda Goins. They were married in Tate County MS where some of the other Goin's settled and they can be found on the 1880 Clay County AR Census with one son Walter b. 1879 and Malinda's mother Mary Goins living with them. Just above them on the page are his parents and J.T. with his wife & daughter Lucinda are just below them. My question is, do you have any information on what happened to Walter's parents after this Census. Walter can be found but they vanish. I would also like to know where they are buried and the dates if you can help. Malinda's sister, Elizabeth Goin McNair and many other Goin's settled in Pulaski Co. AR and are buried in the Bayoo Cem. I have searched and searched without any clue as to where they went or what happened to them. Other AR surnames the Goin's married with are, Bennet,Barrett,Freeze,Mason,Thornburg.
Thanks, Molly

Lyman Abbot Breland was my late uncle, who died in 1958, he had three daugthers, I remember the two youngest as being as being Patrica or sheala and Sherly, they where a few years older than me, one had Blond hair, the youngest had dark hair, I went to their oldest sister,s wedding with my parents,I was about six at the time. I beleive they went to Baker High School in the late 50's to the mid-60's, I never learned their married names, I think it was Martain, Nicoles and Lacey, I think they moved to the Goteai and Pasgagula areas of Miss. or Boyula Batterie, Ala. If you are a descendant of Uncle Lyman I have some things on our family History you may find very interesting, some of our ancestors can be traced to the kings of Europ and more..
Send me your adress and I will send you what I have, for free, no strings attched.

Not much has been found on this part of Abraham Breland, Jr.s family. His 2nd wife was Nancy Elizabeth Odom, daughter of James Odom and Honour Jones. All I have found so far about Lydia Breland, was that she was born ca 1801, in SC and married James Galloway in 1820 in St Tammany Parish, LA. No data on James. I do not have the names of any children, share if you would like to add to the Breland data that I have collected so far. Shown at http://www.cwoodcock.com in the second data base with the name of William Woodcock, Sr by Edward Breland. Just click on William's name and you will be at the index for Abraham and Lydia.

Abner Breland and his wife are my great-great-grandparents.

Abner Breland married Louisa Elizabeth Virginia Berry circa 1864/1865 in (Perry County) Mississippi. She is the daughter of Charles Berry and Eliza Martin of South Carolina and Mississippi.

There is a Virginia Berry in Yalobusha County Mississippi in the same time period but is unrelated to our Virginia as far as I can determine. It would be odd - but not impossible - for both women to have married Breland men. Some have confused Abner with Absalom and I wonder if that is not what has occurred in this instance. What is your source for Virginia Berry of Yalobusha County marrying Absalom Breland?

I have researched both famlies for many years and have written a book on my Berry and Martin families and am presently writing one on my Brelands.

Leila Mayberry
Breland, Breeland and related families on Update Web Site

Hi: just thought that I would share the data that I have with all of you that are interested in the Breland, Varn, Mikell, Woodcock, Cone, Creech, Ross, Copeland, Harrison, and many other related families. About 8 years ago a "Woodcock Cousin" started a family web site and invited me to share it with him. I have taken my notes collected over 50 years of research and finally got all of them posted to the web site. Much detail and expansion of the data base have been contributed by interested family members, Thanks to them for the continued growth of the database. Web site is: http://www.cwoodcock.com . The data base with the name of William Woodcock is the one that has the data. Please remember that this is a work in progress and may contain errors and is by no means complete. It was intended to be helpful but not the basis for joining genealogy organizations.

Mary Mahala Breland must have been the Black Sheep of the Breland clan! Her father was John Robertson Breland and Luraney Rogers. Siblings Eliza,Abraham III,Elijah,Elilsha Elliott and Franklin Preston. There is all kind of information on her siblings and half siblings. The history goes back to the first Breland. I have looked for sometime to find out more information on her children. All that is listed is their names. Can't seem to find anyone that is researching Mary and her husband Granberry Blount. If there is anyone out there that has any new information I sure would like to here from you.
Well thanks in advance. Wanda

If you are a descendant of Abraham Breland Jr. born 1762, as I am, your ancestor is most likly from the union of Abraham Jr's second wife Nancy Elizebeth Odom. I am descended from the union of Abraham Jr's first wife Lewney(Laurney) Rogers. Matha Paticence Breland would be a younger half sister to my Great great great grandfather John Robertson Breland.

From what line is a Doreen Breland tha works for Emery Air Fright in Lancaster, Pa. descended from?

My older brother, who works as a Shipping Supervisor at Air Fright company in Miami, Fl. came across a shipping invoice, signed by a shipping clerk named Doreen Breland in Lancaster, Pennsylvainia, and was curious as to what branch of the Breland clan she is descended or dose she come from an unrelated line. Does any one out there have any thing. Cousin Edward Breland said to check the line connected to a Dewey Desoto Breland, but that seems to be a dead end.

Searching for information regarding J.W. Breland family of Mississippi. My grandmother was listed in the 1880 census for Erata, Jones County, Miss. as living in his household. My grandmother was Victoria Yahn (Yaun, Yawn, or John). She was born in 1867 in Waynesboro, Wayne County, Mississippi. She married Harbard Sanderson in 1885. There is information that purposes that her mother was a daughter of John and Rhoda Stafford who moved to Mississippi from Beaufort District, South Carolina. This daughter died shortly after the Civil War,..in 1867, leaving my grandmother and other small children. I am hoping someone with Breland information might be able to give me a clue towards her identity. Please contact me at leahfbaker@aol.com Thanks, Leah

Re: Hiram and Edward Breland

The information that I have is that Hiram and Edward are not brothers. In fact Hirams' brothers are Elisha(born 1785), Absolom (born1790), Hiram(born 1797), Jesse (born 1799), Joseph T. (born 1804), Lemuel M. (born 1811), and Rev. Rueben Richard (born 1815) They came to south Greene and Perry counties. They came from south carolina with two uncles Samuel (born 1765). Samuel was the brother to Absalom Sr. (born 1750), who was the father of the seven brothers. I have a copy of an old census for Forrest county beat 3 dated somewhere around 1910 that shows a John B. Breland with a son named Edward.
