Hello,

I have a copy of the obituary for Mary Bremner from the March 9, 1949 edition of the KW record. It states that she died the previous night at her residence. I have no other details about how she died. None of her children are still living. My Grandfather Elmer Radtke passed away in 2003 and he survived all of his siblings. Since Mary Bremner passed away prior to my father being born, no one in his family is still living that would have any information about her.

If you would like a copy of her obituary I can scan it and send you a copy. I also have copies of her parent's obituaries if you would like. Just send me your email address.

As for her brother Fred. I do not know his date of death but I do know that according to Gustena Pavolofski's obituary from 1956 that he was still living at that time in Kitchener. I also did a search on the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid website and found that there is a Fred J Bremner buried at Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener. The staff at the Kitchener Cemetery office could help you out with the date of death. If you find out could you please let me know and I can update my records.

I would like more information about Mary Bremner's mother's family. There are many different spellings of her mother's name and her name that I have from her headstone has her name as Gustena Povlofski.

You have the last name spelled differently. Is that the correct spelling?

My email address is robertaschas@sympatico.ca if you have any information about the Povlofski/Pavolofski family.

Let me know if there is any other information you would like help with.

Thanks!

Hi,

My great grandmother was Louisa Pavolofski Schwartz....who would have been an aunt to your Mary Bremner.

I am looking to confirm the information I have about the Bremner family. One date I am missing is Mary Elspet's date of death. I have that she died in March 1949...do you know the exact date or the cause of death?

Also looking for the death date of Mary's brother Fred.

I have that her father, Alexander Bremner, was born July 25, 1868. Is that correct?

Please contact me if you have any of the answers to these questions or if you'd like to compare more info with me!

Hi John,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have 2 babies here that are keeping me busy!

I just had a look at your website and the info regarding Alexander Bremner and Augusta Povelofski. We have a lot of similar information and a few differences.

Augusta Justine Povelofski went by the name of "Christina". She was born Aug 13, 1871, baptised in 1871, confirmed Apr 3, 1885 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church and died in 1958 (I do not know the exact date). Her parents were Adam Povelofski and Anna Maria Lipski.

She married Alexander Aug 5, 1891 in Hanover. I have that Alex was born July 25, 1868 in Inveravon, Banffshire, Scotland and died July 11, 1931 in Waterloo. He emigrated from Scotland in 1877. The family was Presbyterian.

List of their children:

James born June 19, 1892 in Chesley and died March 15, 1912 due to pulmonary tuberculosis
Mary Elspet born May 10, 1894 in Chesley and died March 1949
William Alexander born Dec 8, 1895 in Chesley and died Aug 19, 1896 at age 8 months due to phthisis
Fred born May 26, 1897 in Chesley and died in 1969 in Kitchener
Minnie Ida born Aug 4, 1898 in Chesley and died March 16, 1982 in Kitchener
Christina born Mar 23, 1900 in Chesley and died Aug 4, 1900 in Chesley

I also have Augusta and Alex living on Dobie St.W and then at 158 Edward St.

Please contact me if you'd like to compare more notes!

I am not sure at this moment if he had more than one daughter, but I know that Leopold had more children.

When I get home today I will look through my paperwork and see what it says about Catherine Bremner.
James and Janet Bremner Caithness

I am trying to find information concerning:

James (1) Bemner registered his son also named James (2) in Wick Parish Church 1742. At the time his wife’s name was not recorded, but it was Janet They had married on 12 March 1738.

I would like to trace back further but it is impossible as I have no gravestone to reference the data.

Baby James (2) also married a Janet and grew up to became a soldier and his life is well referenced in the book by John Mowat about one of his son’s call James who was the famous wreck raiser.

James (3 Wreck raiser’s) son: David Bremner married Sarah Hallaran. David ran a fish-curing business and lived in Bexley Terrace in Pulteneytown Wick in 1851.

Any information about the early years would be of interest. I have a very comprehensive history of the family from James (3) the Engineer to present day.
But nothing about James(1) and Janet

Thanks for taking the time to read this - if you need any info please get in touch.

Sue

Hi John
I've just discovered your site and it has solved a few puzzles for me. Thank you for that. I have been researching the Bremner family in Australia, particularly NSW and I would be happy to pass on any information you might think is relevant. I have been doing the Bremner line from David Bremner who was the son of John Bremner and Margaret Davidson. It seems that David and his brother John came to NSW - don't know when, but David married Catherine McKenzie in Australia. And it is from this family that I am descended.

His first wife was Elizabeth Le Brocq and his second wife was Marie Amy. He may have been a member of the 41st Foot Battalion. There is no record of his death on Jersey, so I'm assuming he returned to the UK.

My Robert Bremner b 1818 married to Rachel Brooks had son David F.Bremner b. 1839. Robert b.1818 was born Keith,Banff,Scotland but came to Ottawa and then Chicago,Il.Although David was considered his eldest son, I speculate that there may have been an older brother and Robert would have been a probable name. Have you been in contact with other researchers following this line?

I am in the Chicago area. David Francis Bremner came here around 1849. That is when his mother Rachael Brooks Bremner died. Robert Bremner b. 1818 was listed in the 1850 census with his children and a Conroy family (sp.Convoy in the census). Robert and Rachael came here from Ottawa,Canada. I don't know when the came to Canada but they were there at least by 1839 when David was born. The 1850 census lists a son Robert (3 yrs old who died within the year of whooping cough). He went on to name at least 2 subsequent sons Robert, the last of which was my grandfather, Robert Joseph b. 1864 in Chicago. In 1851 Robert married Ann Connelly McCourt, they had several children. If you haven't seen it yet I suggest that you visit the brebner.com web site and look up Robert Bremner. I am very interested in your Robert Alexander and knowing if there is a relationship. Did you find his birth in Dundee?

I am currently searching a line for Edna Spanton who was married to Frank Spanton. She was born in 1887. Frank died and was buried in Los Angeles in 1933, leaving her with four children, Vinnie, Frankie, Dona and Harry R. Thats where I became stumped. I find now that Edna remarried. She died in Pico Rivera, Los Angeles in 1980. Her name at that time was Edna BREMNER. I am assuming at least some of the children assumed this name as I found that a Harry BREMNER (born in 1926) died in Carlsbad, San Diego in 2002. I AM SEARCHING FOR EDNAS HUSBANDS NAME.
Does anyone have information that they might share with me. I am also wondering what happened to the other children of Ednas. I would appreciate any help that could be given to me. Thanks

Georgina Bremner 1899 daughter of Andrew & Annie (Scotland)

I am searh for William James Freeman who married Georgina Bremner in 1916 in Toowoomba Australia. Her father was Andrew Bremner but there is some confusion to her mother's maiden name it could have been Stewart or Mckay / Mackay. His father was William James Freeman who migrated to Australia in 1910 and was married to Mary Wastle who parents may have been James and Isabella Wastle from Berwick on Tweed UK. Any information on any of these people would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Michelle
