I suspect that my gg grandmother Dicey Mariah Brendle 1836-1921 (m. Rev.Pinkney Alexander Whitener)was decended from Johannes Brendel. She died in Burke Co. but was likely born in Catawba or old Lincoln like her husband.
One brother, David, survived her.
BRANDL - one of the spelling variants

Hi,

most of you are certainly aware of the fact, that there are lots of spelling variants for Brendle.

For those who aren't, let me draw your attention for instance to the BRANDL message board at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/rw/Surnames.Brandl But of course there are several more query boards and mailing lists for variant spellings out there.

My own family's name, BRANDL, goes back quite a long time. But when I dug out the father of my last known BRANDL ancestor, what a surprise: His name in the books was PRAENDL, born in about 1717.

Since some time we have a BRANDL resources site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brandlsurname/

The links, hints and data (including some soundex census transcriptions for the USA) on this site may be helpful for any of the name variants you might have in your family.

All the best for your research

Tilman Brandl

In 1852 he marr. Rebecca Akin Goss. They were marr. over 40 years, until her death in the 1890's. Her death notice states that she had several children. I can share Rebecca's date of death. and other Brendle info. Valentine had a brother Jefferson Brendle who lived in Jeffersonville, IN
