I am a physician interested in medical history (and genealogy). I purchased an old set of medical textbooks that belonged to Dr. J.S. Bringle. In the course of my research on him I discovered he attended Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1856=57 and was precepted by one Dr. A. M. Murphy in Indiana. (Medical students served a 2-3 year apprenticeship in those days in addition to a course of formal lectures). Do you know anything about Dr. Bringle's practice? I don't see a record of Civil War service but surgeon's records are often not listed on standard rosters. Do you know if he served in the war?
Thanks very much.
Best regards,
Tom Frank
