There are many areas of Norway in which the Brenna name is common. It has a couple meanings which I have found in researching the family history. One reference is to burning and often referred to the particular occupation of an individual. They would burn wood to produce pine tar and pitch. An additional meaning refers to being betrayed.
Tammy, the Brenna name was particularly common in the Hallingdal valley. The parishes of Aal, Gol, and Hol all had several Brenna families. Many of these families settled in Minnesota and North Dakota
