im trying to trace my ancesters and its proving to be so confusing as my great grandad didnt talk about his family,i now believe by research he was william Brew son of John Brew b1834 in ireland and honora loftus b1835 in ireland, her sister margaret b1831 also lived with them.any help would be amazing, links to the loftus family and brew family.i think wILLIAM BREW may have been married before he married my great grandmother in BRISTOL in 1920,as he was by then in his 40s,so poss another family. He was on his way to be part of crew on the titanic...but didnt get there as he met and married my great grandmother who was 20yrs his junior.
we do have a picture of him wearing a uniform, which maybe be a connaught rangers uniform...and was once listed as scaler, his brother George a seaman,a sister eliza, another sister honora..another sister frances and a brother john..any info would be of great help..we just want to fill in the gaps in our family history :)
looking forward to hearing some links!:)clairewaters2009@hotmail.co.uk

Hi,

I am Christopher Brew born Edmonton 1973, I think we are related as I believe your grandfather Charles (1879-1933) was the brother of my great grandfather George born Edmonton (1885-1947).There was quite a few of them as they had brothers Christopher (1876-1958),Frank (1887-1887) and sisters Helena (1880-1915) & Sarah (Born 1875).

Can you confirm if your granfather was married to Emily Gibbons and your dad had brothers called Charles (b1901),Leonard (1912-1940) & sister Emily (b1888)?. I have done a huge amount of work on the Brew family tracing them from Isle of Man to Liverpool then down to London, I would be happy to share this with you, as I have a very detailed tree on Genesreunited so let me know if you are on there and I can give you access.

Cheers
Brew who was born in 1918, again I believe in Edmonton. Died and buried in Edmonton in 1980.
I believe his father's name was Charles Brew, the one mentioned, virtually my grandfather, the son of Christopher Robert Brew, who I guess would be my great grandfather.
Please let me know.

I am looking for information about Margaret A Brew born about 1835 on the Isle of Man. She married a Peter Crawford who was from Wigton in Scotland. They moved to the Ulverston area in Lancashire in 1871 or 1872.
I have information regarding her life in England, but can find no mention of her birth or marriage. Her first five children were baptised on the Isle of man at Andreas. The family believe she may have been from Laxey.
Can anyone help?

Hi,
Thank you also for the message and some additional info which helps, I believe your grandmother Helena was the half sister of my great grandfather George (Born Edmonton 1885-1947) as it appears that their father Christopher Robert Brew was married to a Sarah Brew firstly (mother of Helena) then Emma Brew (George's mother). I believe some of the info I have discovered seems to indicate that Sarah died so not sure if you have any further info on that?, if you were willing to share a copy of the photo you have that would be good as I only have a picture of George in his army uniform (WW1)and of no one else of course we can make contact off line if necessary.

As I am also Christopher Brew it transpires that this name features highly in the family tree which is nice, your grandmother Helena's father, grandfather & great grandfather were all called Christopher so now I know where my name comes from !

Thanks again
Chris

Thanks for the message.
I am the grandson of Helena Brew who married my grandfather, Arthur William Bennett. They emigrated to Canada c.March 1906 where my mother was born, returning c.1914 (grandfather joining the army). Helena died on 23rd June 1915 (cause unknown) and is buried in a small graveyard in Cam, Gloucestershire, there is a well preserved headstone there. I have a photograph of Helena which my mother kept, showing her in service to a household in north London. I have never established the connection to Cam, there are a lot of Bennetts round there, presumably they were living with relatives.
Some time ago there was a Brew website set up by a chap in Switzerland, I don't think it's active now but the information may still be there.
My research has been done in conjunction with my cousin. My information is gathered from the usual census records etc.
Hope this is of some help.

To anyone (especially from her family) who's interested:

Blanche Brew was Headmistress of Stroud Girls High School when my mother was there. I have a copy of "Cranford" awarded as a prize to my mother and signed by Miss Brew, dated 1933. My mother was always grateful to Miss Brew for (almost physically) dragging her back to school for another year to re-take and pass her School Certificate. My mother's family was poor, so Miss Brew may have arranged some sort of financial help for this year.

Re: John Kneale (born about 1805)

I am also pulling my hair about - re the Kneale's - and every so often start up the search again.

The first Kneale I have, is an Ann Kneale born Kirk Michael about 1830, a dressmaker, who married Thomas Moore in Kirk Michael.

I believe Ann's father to be a John Kneale born about 1805. I have found a John Kneale who was buried in Kirk Michael in 1858 and so he was born in 1806 (what is a year here and there?). The second reason I think this may be my man is that he lived at Ballacoine and my maternal grandfather John Henry Moore, was born at Ballacoine and was the only child of Thomas Moore and his wife Ann - hence a possible connection.

I have the birth certificate of John Henry Moore and his parents are listed as Thomas Moore and wife Ann.

It is the connection on who Ann's father is - which I believe to be John, and if this is the case, I believe John's father to be a Philip Kneale from Andreas.

My Moore's from Kirk Michael (and previously Santan) married the Quayle's from Kirk Michael.

Many thanks for any help that may be forthcoming.

Denise

Hi Tony,

I'll get the book in the post to you. It is a small book but quite heavy I suppose as it's hard back & leather bound.

I am not related to the Brew family. I came by the book when I helped an old lady clear out her house to move away. She had bought it second hand. I kept it back from sale because I thought at first that she may have accidentally chucked out a family heirloom. Then, when I found this was not the case, I thought I might be able to find it an owner. First of all I advertised it in Family Tree Magazine (a UK magazine), then later on Ancestry. I've had it well over 10 years!! It's moved house with me once!

I'll let you know when it's on it's way to you.

Best wishes,

Valerie

Naturally I will pay all costs involved.

Could I ask how you came to have the book - are you related to the BREW family?

I am assuming that you are somewhere in England, I am in Sydney, Australia.

My postal address is :

Tony Smith
7 Bennett Street
Curl Curl
New South Wales 2096
Australia

Regards

Tony

The book I have is a smallish leather bound volume of Tennyson's poems. It was awarded to Blanche as prize by Liverpool High School. Would you be interested in having the book?

Best wishes,

Valerie

BREW family from Everton and West Derby, Liverpool.

I am seeking information on Thomas Brew, a shoemaker, born 1816 who married Frances Matthews in 1845. Their son, Thomas married Martha Porter nee Drummond in 1878. These two had a son, George Brew, who married Mary Ellen Barlow in 1909, and their son (my father) was George Leslie Brew born 1910. All a bit long-winded I know, but I have come up against the dreaded "1837" dateline, and am finding it difficult to go back beyond this. Any assistance most welcome. I'm married, so it's my husband's name and we believe it is an americanized version of a Hungarian name - think Mochak or something along those lines. Would love to know anything you know about the name.
