Hi. Yes, we're related albeit distantly. My g-grandmother was Polly Ann Brewington (married to John R. Jacobs, son of Jesse Jacobs Sr & Abigail Gilliam-Jacobs) who was another daughter of Raiford Brewington & Bashaba/Barsheba Manuel. Btw, there are wide generation gaps in my line, thus Raiford & Bashaba were my g-g-grandparents and I'm only 46 yrs old. I can see that Raiford & Bashaba were your g-g-g-g-grandparents.

Hi, I think we're talking about the same Joshua and Amelia, but the dates seem to be off a bit. Amelia Aldridge Brewington was born circa 1855 and died around 1899. She could not have married Joshua Brewington in 1799. She was the sister of my gggrandfather John W. Aldridge (1851-1910.)

Have you recently been in contact with B. Jones? She's another Joshua/Amelia descendant. She recently told me she'd been in contact with an ELlijah descendant, and we were so excited!

-- Lisa

Hi,

In the 1860 census in Salisbury, Somerset, Maryland there is a Stephen Smith, 53, and a Moranna (Miranda)Smith with 9 children. Also living with them was a John Brewington, 28; William Brewington, 26; and a Mary Brewington, 21, living with them. I jumped to the idea that this was Miranda Smith's maiden name, but I may be wrong as I cannot find any mention of a Miranda Brewington anywhere. Would there be someone who recognizes this line?

Thanks

I have info about Johnnie Cass Brewington

I have info about Johnnie Cass Brewington. He was my grandfather. My father was Russell Orem Brewington. Johnnie Cass Brewington married Anna Charlotte (right now I can't put my hands on her maiden name). They were from the Toledo, Ohio area. They had 2 boys, the oldest was named John Brewington, the youngest was Russell. When John was 4 and Russell was 2, their father Johnnie Cass Brewington left for work one day and never returned. It's a long story, but in 1961 (40 years later)my father Russell was doing some training in Carrizozo, New Mexico and we came across an El Paso Texas paper that had an advertisement for a new Ford dealership and it introduced their new sales manager, Johnnie Brewington with his picture. My father knew this wasn't his father, but wrote to the new Johnnie Brewington explaining that he was looking for his father with the details of when his father had left etc. We received a letter back from the new Johnnie Brewington telling us that my grandfather Johnnie Cass Brewington was alive with his El Paso address. Shortly after that we were able to drive down to meet them, Johnnie & Crystal and all of the new seven children, half brothers and sisters to my father. I was 8 years old at that time. In 1968 and 1969 I was able to visit my grandfather again with my parents. If you want to know more, Please contact me. My name is Duane Brewington.

Hi,

I saw your post on Ancestry.com from Aug of 2008. I'm trying to find info on a Rebecca Brewington born around 1855 maybe in NC. In 1880 she was in Scuffletown, SC. There was also a John Brewington on that census report and I think he was her brother, but I can't make the connection. I can't find his parent's either. I'm not sure if he is the same John whose parents are John and Martha.

Any info on Rebecca (not the one born in 1820).

Thanks,

Carol

Hi,

My great grandfather was one of the sons of Rebecca - Samuel. Did you ever find any more info on Rebecca's family? The only thing I've found is the 1880 census too that says they were in Scuffletown.

Carol Knight

Hi Robie,

Let me clarify something. I miss spoke earlier.

My grandfather is John Cass Brewington, he married Crystal Casswell. They had 7 children, John Casswell Brewington (my father), Margaret, Charlie, Ann, Dawn, Harry, and Crystal.

Margaret passed away from choking on a chicken bone(I'm joking). Baby Crystal died not long after she was born, Charlie still lives in El Paso, TX but his health is failing him I believe he has cancer. I think Harry is in Las Vegas but I'm not sure and I'm not sure about Ann or Dawn. I think Dawn passed away awhile ago and if I'm not mistaken Ann is still alive. But I don't know of any Diana.

My father John Caswell Brewington was born December 25, 1924 and passed away July 17, 2006 from COPD. He has 2 other daughter's from a previous marrige to Mildred Giles, they are Johnnie Donda Simington and Pixie Gaile (I can't remember her last name). My mother's name is Adrena Ann Hall Brewington and I am Jennifer Melissa Brewington.

I hope this helped you in some way. Please let me know what you know, especially if I have Cherokee or african american in my blood line. (I read your other posts'.) If you want other information about my dad's siblings I will find out from my mom.

Thanks a lot.
Jennifer Brewington

Hi Jennifer!

Oh yes, I'm still working on Brewingtons in Texas (and whereever that line wandered thereafter), so I'm glad you posted.

John Cass Brewington was the younger brther of my grandfather, Russell Dumas Brewington. My father is Russell Dumas Brewington II. John Cass Brewington (my grand-uncle) lived in El Paso, Texas; we visite him there in the late 1950s. Dad thinks John Cass Brewington had two children, John and Diana. In the mid-1960s we briefly visited Diana's family in Coronado, California.

Where do you fit in this picture? I'd sure like to be able to fil in the John Cass Brewington line, and hope you can help me!

BTW, your father's middle name, Cass, is the surname of John and Russell's mother, Louise Maude Cass (she went by the name Maude). Don't know if you knew that or not, but I didn't know where the Dumas came from either, until I started this research.

You can email me direct at robbie1949@comcast.net if you like and we can share Brewington stories. Janet Dise also has a great deal of infomation on the Brewingtons in Texas.

Take care,

Robie

Thanks Jennifer. The name Diana is out of my memory--it could have been Dawn. I'll have to ask my Dad. Our fathers are cousins (which makes us second cousins, I think). I'd love to have more information on your dad's siblings--anything to expand the Brewington tree!

I'd also be interested in knowing if your mom has any information/family stories about John Cass Brewington's father. His name is John Dumas Brewington and he apparently deserted his wife and two sons when they were quite small. I'm very interested in knowing what happened to him.

My dad maintains that the Brewingtons have Cherokee blood, but I haven't (yet) found any solid connections for the Texas Brewingtons. It would have been prior to the family's leaving Georgia around 1875-1880 and probably prior to the Civil War. As for African-American blood, I think it's very likely that the Texas Brewingtons (and other Brewington lines as well) share an common ancestor with the African-American Brewingtons in North and South Carolina. I don't (yet) know who that common ancestor would be, but I'm pretty certain he existed.

I have a fair amount of information on our great-grandfather's and great-granduncle's participation in the Civil War and would be happy to share that with you.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Robbie
