I have been trying to contact Rhonda Burton in Australia. My maiden name is Elizabeth Hibberd. My great great grandfather was Neil Briceland. His daughter Elizabeth married GEorge Hibberd my great grandfather. His son Charles remained in London and was an engraver. He had three sons - Percy was my father.

I do have some information on the Cheesemonger's in Aldersgate but not about Neil. I know that my grandmother Emma was with Elizabeth when she died.

Good to be in touch with Australian family. I will post my email address if anyone gets in touch.

Elizabeth Everson (nee Hibberd).

Hello again Rhonda

Just found your message board on Ancestry. My maiden name is Elizabeth Hibberd (daughter of Percy Hibberd, son of Charles, son of George, son of George) I am wondering what side of the Hibberd family you are connected to. I have a public family tree on Ancestry to see my connection. As I said on Red Fox I have done quite a lot of research eventually finding Elizabeth (m Hibberd) and Neil Briceland as grandparents down the line. I would love to know where Neil came from in Scotland. As regards the cheesemongers in Aldersgate - it is well recorded in the trade directories in the Guildhall Library. It is lovely to think I have found a connection to another 'Hibberd'. I have photos of my grandfather Charles and also one of Fanny his sister but none of family before that. Look forward to hearing from you. Elizabeth

Hi Vicki,
As your message was a while ago, this might not get through to you (but I will try).
I am also searching for the Briceland name. My gr gr grandmother Jane married a Neil Briceland in or about 1835-40. They originally came from Scotland, before settling in the Middlesex area of London.
Neil's parents were Thomas & Annie (nee McMillan)Briceland from Killean & Kilchenzie in Scotland. There were a nmuber of children born to Thomas & Annie.
As it wasn't a very popular name, I'm wondering if there could be a connection? Do you have any idea what your gr gr gr grandmother's name was?
regards
Rhonda

Gordon was born in Tullochallum, Auchendown, Banffshire in 1779. He was reported to have a sister &/or brother. His sibling was ex-communicated from the Roman Catholic Church for marrying a Protestant.

Florence, PA is north of Cannonsburg at the corner RT 18 and 22. It was originally Briceland's Corners. There is an historical sign there with this information. Two brothers ran a coach station there and were driven out by the Indians. My Bricelands were in Pittsburgh starting with the arrival of Cornelious Briceland (born abt 1840, immigarated 1857). The origin of this line in Ireland is unknown. Bricelands today are are in Scotland (only 14 miles from Ireland). The origninal mention of the family is in the Book of the Four Masters around 400AD in Donagal with the spelling O'Breaslain.

Briceland Name Origins

The family name originates in 4th century AD Ireland. It was O'Breaslain and is usually found as Breslin. I have found about 40 different spellings--Braceland, Bryceland, Bricelawn, Brislen, etc. It was a brehon family from a branch of the Cenel Enda descended from Conall Gulban, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages. Their homeland was in Donagal in the northeast of Kilmacrenan barony near Inniskeel. They were also in Co Sligo and Co Fermanagh. Later in the medieval period, the Breslins were also in Munster.
