Dear Jenny
The pleasure is all mine.I'm also tapping oher people for information,so any that I can GIVE seems just good manners!!
"My" Mr.Brick would probably not have been born in 1901,he wore his hair in that very distinctive "oiled, short" look of Londoners young in the 20s/30s (like my own granddad and his brother).
The railways took people on by reference,so having a relative already "in" was a real advantage. The word may well be "Railway Servant" as this was how they were known on signs even in my own relatively recent childhood! More senior employees were "clerks" or "officers" (who often had the powers of constable).
I have put a query out on your behalf on an LT Staff Bard,to see if anyone remembers him,to get a full name....I will let you know if I get any reply.
Anyway....very good luck with your search, and be reassured that someone remembers your relative as a "true Gent"
All the best
Nick B
