I'm Thomas Brick of MA. My father is a Thomas Brick and his father was a Thomas Brick. I'm keenly interested in any information you might have on Nora. I have seen her name in ship Manifests and I'm interested to know of there is any relation.

I must admit I'm brand new at this geneology stuff so I don't have a ton of information now and I am only just starting to gather it.

If it helps... My Grandfather, Thomas Joseph Brick, lived in Westfield MA from the early 20th cent (not sure on birthdate) until the early 1980s. Thanks in advance.

Tom

Dear Jenny
The pleasure is all mine.I'm also tapping oher people for information,so any that I can GIVE seems just good manners!!
"My" Mr.Brick would probably not have been born in 1901,he wore his hair in that very distinctive "oiled, short" look of Londoners young in the 20s/30s (like my own granddad and his brother).
The railways took people on by reference,so having a relative already "in" was a real advantage. The word may well be "Railway Servant" as this was how they were known on signs even in my own relatively recent childhood! More senior employees were "clerks" or "officers" (who often had the powers of constable).
I have put a query out on your behalf on an LT Staff Bard,to see if anyone remembers him,to get a full name....I will let you know if I get any reply.
Anyway....very good luck with your search, and be reassured that someone remembers your relative as a "true Gent"
All the best
Nick B

My Grandmother Rosina Ellen Brick was born in Southwark, London on 7/6/1898.
She was one of about 17 children, some of whom were, Florrie, Grace, Winfred, Martha, Mary,Teddy, Bertha, Becky, George, Joe, Alice & Dick..
I cannot find ANY of them on the 1901 census, I'm not sure why. I cannot tell you her parents names or anything about them, except they lived in the 1920's & upwards in a house near the OXO tower in Southwark.
Rosina married John (AKA Jack) Shaw in about 1920 and had 4 children, Rosina, John, Walter and Winifred.
Can anyone out there help me with ANY information.

Hi Kathy,
Yes, I did find out more, and found a new cousin in the process. Our Brick's lived in Central Minnesota, where they came from Ireland, through Canada. Our great-great-grandfather was Daniel Brick, who came over in approx. 1848. My link to him is through my great-grandfather, Thomas Brick, then through my grandmaother, who married John Duffy. I'm not aware of any relatives in Iowa, or realtion to Walter Brick.

Thanks,

Steve

Just started researching the Brick family. I'm a member of the Mantua Township Historical Commission and have done over sixty family trees for the old families of Barnsboro, NJ. The Brick family comes into play thru the Jessup family, which was a large family of this area. Any info you would like to share would be appreciated. I would reciprocate when finished my research.

Dolores A. Allen
talktodolores@comcast.net

Dear Steve,

Did you ever find out more about your family heritage? It's been a long time since you posted this message in 2001.

My family had a Michael Brick married to Catherine O'Connor, living in Tama County, IA. Their children were Nellie, Michael, William, Steven and Anna (born in the 1860s but order not certain).

Steven married Ellen (Nellie ) Mulligan and they had the following children: Florence (1897), Nellie ('99), Martha ('01), Walter ('03), Frank ('05) and John ('07), all born in DesMoines.

Is that Walter your grandfather? Have you gone back more generations with the Bricks? Have you traced them back to Ireland?

I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Kathy Sullivan
(great granddaughter of Anna Brick Burns)
Thomas D. Hopefully this information will be of help to others who are also researching the victims and survivors of this Hurricane.
I am not related to this family, just passing on this information.
John Wilmington Brick born abt 1854

Looking for information on a BRICK family. Of particular interest is the daughter in this family -- Ethel May BRICK // MCKEAN // JOHNSON.

Father John Wilmington BRICK and mother Mary [HEISER] BRICK. John W. BRICK was possibly born in Indiana, abt Nov 1854. Mary HEISER was born In N.C. or Virgina abt. Jun 1861. Both of Mary's parents were born in Germany.

John W. and Mary BRICK are married and living in Colorado with two sons on the Colorado State Census for 1885, son Charles H. BRICK born in CO abt Apr 1883 and John L. BRICK born in CO abt Apr 1885. Their daughter Ethel May BRICK was also born in CO abt Dec 1887.

By 1900 Fed Census the family is living in San Diego, CA

By 1910 Fed Census, San Diego, CA John BRICK (the father) is no longer with the family. The mother Mary K. BRICK is listed as "divorced", others in the household are son Charles H. BRICK single, son John L. BRICK married to Fanny [WESLIN or WESLINE] BRICK, born Sweden. 1910 Fed Census, San Diego, in a separate household daughter Ethel BRICK is now Ethel MCKEAN married to Arthur McKEAN.

California death Index does list a John W. BRICK deceased Dec. 27, 1911. This may be the father.

1920 Fed Census, San Diego the mother Mary BRICK is now listed as widowed. Others in her household are son Charles H. BRICK still single and two male boarders. 1920 Fed Census son John L. BRICK is now in San Jose, Santa Clara, CA ... no wife Fanny ... but his sister Ethel MCKEAN and her husband ARTHUR MCKEAN are in his household.

1920 FED Census does have a Fanny BRICK who may very well be John L. BRICK's wife at the Patton State Hospital. She also appears at PATTON on the 1930 census.

Also 1920 FED Census there are three children -- who may very well be the children of John L. BRICK and Fanny BRICK -- living in San Diego, CA at The Helping Hand Children's Home. The three children are Irene C. BRICK born abt OCT 1910, Genevive R. BRICK born abt Sep 1912 and John BRICK born abt 1915.

At some point during the period from about 1920 to about 1928 it appears that Ethel May BRICK // MCKEAN divorces Arthur MCKEAN or is widowed as by 1930 Fed Census, San Diego, CA she is now married to August JOHNSON ... her nephew John BRICK is also living in their household.

Ethel May BRICK // JOHNSON died in San Diego, CA Apr 16, 1976. Her second husband August JOHNSON had predeceased her in 1945. The informant on her death certificate was Mrs. Irene LYNCH who may have been Ethel's niece.

Thank you so much for this extra information Nick. I am now sure he is one of mine. My grandmother had a "gingerish" colour hair and so did the 2 sisters of hers that I knew.
I also know that one of her siblings (?) is in the 1901 census as "railway ???" the second word I can't make out, but I will go back and have a much closer look now. This may not be him but a son...and as I have found out with most of my other searching and finding, lots sons followed in their fathers footsteps... maybe a sort of " I'll get you a job at my place " sorth of thing, to get them work. My husbands family, I can pick the men out a mile off. They were boilermakers back 4 generations, fathers & sons, brothers and uncles etc...and so was my father in law.
Anyway Nick, I am so happy to have met you and thanks so much for this extra information, I am really grateful...
Jenny

Hi Nick,
Thanks a lot for the reply to my "Brick" enquiry. Because of the unusual name and the right location I am almost certain he must be one of "mine" I don't have a great deal of information about the Bricks but am managing to piece them together bit by bit and am grateful for any information, so your bit is very interesting to me. I enjoy all the personal stuff about my ancestors more than just trying to find out how far back I can go. I enjoy the part where I can make pictures of their lives, and like the feeling that I know them...if you get what I mean.
Thanks once again.
Regards,
Jenny

This thread is pretty old, so I'm not sure that anyone will read my reply. Looking for family of Thomas Finn Brick, my great grandfather, born in Ireland approx. 1843. Married Catherine Whetstone from Illinois, born 1853. Settled in Renville County, MN. I noticed that in 1880, there was also a Daniel Brick family listed in the same county - not sure they are related.

Dear Jenny
The Mr.Brick I knew worked for London Transport,at least before his illness.Amongst other things, his duties included supervising trainee tube-train drivers on the Northern Line.I believe he was based either at Morden Depot,or perhaps at Tooting Broadway.
I remember discussing with him the then-recent Moorgate tube disaster and an earlier incident at Tooting.
He was of average height, with reddish hair, and spoke like a real Londoner.
This was a hard time for me,and the support given to me by him,and other fellow patients has stuck in my mind.
I know this is only a sketchy impression,30 years after the event, but I know that in building up a family tree "every little helps"
Nick Barber
