My wife's side of the family is connected with the Brickwoods - in William b.St.Germans abt 1828 and in 1841 at St.Germans, was with siblings Ann 15 Christopher 15 and John 10. They were with the Spencer family and another, Thomas 6 was with Elizabeth Brickwood 65. This has the appearance of some family disaster. I am interested in their parents, of whom I have found no clue. There were other Brickwoods at St.G at the time, Isaac & Jane with 7 month old son, Richard, a shoemaker & Catherine with 3 children but cannot make a connection though one is likely.
There is the other family group at St.Minver who have St.G. connections and similar Christian names but again I cannot make any positive connection
William married and moved to Brighton in Sussex to become a Coastguard. He and his wife became Licensed Victuallers and were at several different public houses in the area. What I have can be seen on my North Family Tree on Ancestry.co.uk and is publicly available. I shall be very interested if you can assist me further back with this family.

Her relatives came from the St Germans area and one of them worked as a houskeeper at Cotehele House in the late 1880's.There was a relative called Isaac, who strangely, married a Rebecca!

Hi Annette,
I am researching my ancestors who lived in Cornwall. One of these families was William Prisk who married Mary Brickwood in Plymouth, Devon in 1815 unfortunately Mary died prior to the 1841 census so I am unable to establish where she may have been born. Her age was shown to be 45 yrs. at the time of her death in 1840. The family lived at Carnmarth, Gwennap/Redruth where most of their 8 children were born. From Marys age at the time of her death she could have been born at either St Germans in Cornwall or Ugborough in Devon in about 1895. During your research have you come across this family as I would be most interested to find any connection to other Brickwood families. You can contact me at robbardon@aol.com

Cheers

Rob Don

Australia

Hi Iam Ian Leslie Brickwood, Born in Wakefield in West Yorkshire. I am trying to trace back my family, but have no available contacts, but from what I have been told that part of the family came from Ireland. This I have traced to James Brickwood, Born suposadely 5 May 1866, In Omagh. As it is not a common name up in Yorkshire I am wondering if it is that common in Ireland as there appears to be possible links with Devon or the USA. It would appear that at least on the web No GRO indexes for Wakefield exist, as I dont exist in the cyber indexes. I am unable to purchase Birth Certificates or travel as I am out of work.

Further to my previous posting, it appears that Philip's father was called Christopher Brickwood, who was of Maker/Millbrook in Cornwall (or possibly Ugborough in Devon). He was a Cooper. It seems that Christopher had other sons, Christopher (b. abt ?), Richard (b.abt 1761) and Robert (b. abt. 1770). Robert was the school master in St Germans. Richard was a Cooper in Maker, Cornwall. Christopher (the son) was also a Cooper.
If anyone has any connections to the Brickwoods of Cornwall/Devon, please do get in touch.

My Husband is descended from the Brickwood family of St Germans. The furthest back we have got so far is to a Philip Brickwood, born circa 1765 in St Germans. We think he was a shoemaker. He married Ann Cock. One of their Son's was called Isaac, baptised 9 July 1810 in St Germans. He was a tailor. His Wife was Jane Grylls. They also had a Son called Isaac, born 5 August 1846 in St Germans. This Isaac then moved to Plymouth, Devon. Are there any other links to the St Germans Brickwoods out there?

Since my reply a year ago, I have discovered a Martha Duncan Wickert (born March 1916) who married Marvin Street Brickwood in February 1934. Their second child, Marvin Arthur Brickwood, died in June 1947 in a fall. While Marvin Street died in 1956, Martha lived a lot later.

Sounds like the same Martha Wickert to me. Contact me for further information if you haven't had it by now - I'm in touch with relatives of Marvin's in the States.

Best wishes

Chris Brickwood

You no doubt already know that LDS have a lot of references to Brickwoods in Cornwall? at:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Sorry, I was preparing to move house when you posted both messages and have only just rediscovered them! I have not managed to link the Cornwall Brickwoods to the Surrey ones on my web site at http://www.brickwoods.co.uk

Best wishes

Chris Brickwood

I am searching for information on an Aunt. Her name was Martha Wickert. I believe her married name was Brickwood. Her husband may have been Arthur, Raymond or Marvin. She had a son who died when he was six or seven, his name was Raymond. She lived in the Mount Holly area in the 1950's, 60's and possibly into the 70's. I'm still not sure when she died, but she is possible buried in Cinnaminson, N.J. Any info?

Albert Brickwood was the lawyer for my great grandparents wills. William and Margaret Griffith Brickwood. Since they knew each other and had the same surname I feel they could have been related. I don't know where William came from except it was supposed to be Northern Ireland . I think he had a sister Ellen Dawson, but I am not positive. He was a bricklayer and designer in Chicago. Sure would like to find out if he might have been related to Albert.

Brickwoods of Chicago

My great grandmother was Beatrice Brickwood, daughter of Albert W.and Genevieve Jackson) Brickwood. Albert Brickwood was a prominent judge in Chicago, died 1915. Albert, born 1852,was son of John and Mariah (Venn)Brickwood who came from Ireland in 1848. Albert had a brother John, born 1848, and six sisters. Could be there is a connection to your ancestor William Brickwood.

My ancestor John Brickwood was shown to be 38 on the list of passengers on the ship Sheridan which sailed from Liverpool April 1848, so his date birth would have been 1810 by that. He married Marria Bennet Venn of Tallowe, Ireland,on August 30, 1838 in Lismore Ireland, Waterford County.
